I made the argument for him to win in the post you responded to, dabo. "I think the Redemption Island route is in many ways a lot harder than the conventional route. The loneliness of it for one makes it a harder route. Having to compete in a challenge every three days to stay in the game is harder than the path Vee took, for instance, just to name one UTR winner."
He doesn't necessarily win because people are mad at the other player, but perhaps because they respect what he went through to get there. One of things that's been bugging me about Survivor is that the "survival" aspect of it isn't played up as much anymore. It's all strategy. Remember in Survivor 2 when the camp was washed away? They had to trade their flag for more rice just to survive.
Redemption Island is true survival, particularly since there's so much time alone. Mentally, that breaks a person down. Coming back from that, particularly considering Matt will have spent nearly the entire the game there if he manages to come back and make it to the Final 3, makes him worthy of consideration for the win.
Especially if he's in the final 3 against Natalie and Ashley for instance.
