"Who is or was ? (my retarded post)"
LAST EDITED ON 03-28-05 AT 06:06 PM (EST)

Past or present it don't matter.
Who is or was your favorite boxer?
I must admit I have not followed boxing since Tyson bit off a piece of Holyfields ear off.
So the article posted by Cygnus X1 holds true. I have no clue who is who anymore.

I was thinking about the fight last night:
Peter Manflora and Miguel Espino.
I am going off the subject for a second. I think that bringing back Manflora is about as bad as bringing back some one like Boston Rob back after losing in the amazing race. (I know Boston Rob is still in it) Just a comparison. Boston Rob is the guy to beat.

Which brings me back to the fight.
Espino could of won the fight. He should of won that fight.

Who was the greatest round thief of my times? (in his prime of course)
Sugar Ray Leonard.
Where did Sugar Ray learn this from? Can it be taught? I know I would of tried to pick Sugar Rays brain on the subject daily had I been a Contender. (Had I been Espino)

I know my post is a bit whacky and probably makes no sense. lol

Let me end by saying that Espino should of heckled Manflora before the fight. I know I would of. And then he should of heckled him in the ring. We all love a good show. All Espino had to do was go in the ring and get his clown on. He could of won the crowd, changed the mommentum and stole the fight by just doing what Ray Leonard did. Look good in the final seconds of each round. You Ray Leonard fans know what I am talking about right? I think the fight was very close and Manfredo in my view is not all that.

If Manflora makes it to the Palace fight I will never watch another reality show again. Unless it has naked women involved.

Favorite Boxers of all time? Mine?

Sugar Ray Leonard
Julio Ceasar chavez
Jorge "Maromero" Paez

Who was is yours?

Favorite fighters of all time: probably Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Aaron Pryor, and Roy Jones Jr. I am not one of those Roy haters; I think that what he could do in his prime was magnificent. Incidentally, I was ringside when Tarver knocked him out, and it was the most amazing scene: nobody left the arena, nobody ran to the press room, everyone just stood there and stared. (Except for one Roy-hating Internet writer, who started screaming "I knew he was overrated" and sputing the names of former light heaves who would have beaten him).

Favorite fighters right now: Floyd Mayweather Jr is just a joy to watch. He's a jerk to be around, but he's a joy to watch. (Although, to be fair, the first money I made from writing about boxing was writing about Floyd. The Grand Rapids Press called me and asked me to file a report every time Floyd was arraigned in Las Vegas. A pretty steady income). Who else? Erik Morales. The guy is a pure, born fighter. Bernard Hopkins. And, of course, my friends Ishe Smith, Wayne McCullough, and Chris Byrd.

Soon-to-be-favorites: Miguel Cotto. That kid is going to be something special. I've never seen people salivate over a prospect so much. Kassim Ouma. Jeff Lacy.

Favorite fighter to write about/interview: Bernard Hopkins, hands down. The man loves to talk and talk and talk and talk. he is so immesnely open to the media, it's incredible. Before the De La Hoya fight, the contrast between Hopkins and the supposedly media-savvy Oscar was remarkable. Honorable mentions to Antonio Tarver and James Toney (and Kassim Ouma, who is charming and has an amazing story, but loses points because he is damn near impossible to understand. I once taped an interview with him, sat down to transcribe it, and gave up part-way through).

2. "Leonard, Tyson, Ali"
Sugar Ray Leonard was one of my favorites. His fights with Roberto Duran are classic. Especially the one where Duran quit fighting and said "no mas, no mas" after Leonard was humiliating him in the ring. See the summary... http://www.saddoboxing.com/boxing-article/Sugar-Ray-Leonard-Roberto-Duran.html

I also liked Mike Tyson in his prime. Back when he would knock people out in the first round. I still follow his fights but now he's more of a cartoon character than a boxer.

Muhammad Ali was the greatest though. He probably was the best thing that ever happened to boxing. Go anywhere in the world and they know who he is.

In the end, those of us that walk away winning, win more than just a loss - Audrey, Apprentice loser

3. "RE: Leonard, Tyson, Ali"
Man, Tyson at his best was something incredible. Now that he's become a caricature of himself, it's hard to remember, but the excitement that he generated at his peak was amazing. Oh, he could have been truly great had he kept himself under control. (He is, by the way, an extremely pleasant man when you meet him. Unless, I guess, you're a woman who meets him in his hotel room at 2AM). And as for Ali: you're right. Is there a more famous person in the world?
