PLEASE NOTE: The Reality TV World Message Boards are filled with desperate
attention-seekers pretending to be one big happy PG/PG13-rated family. Don't
be fooled. Trying to get everyone to agree with you is like herding cats,
but intolerance for other viewpoints is NOT welcome and respect for other
posters IS required at all times. Jump in and play, and you'll soon find out
how easy it is to fit in, but save your drama for your mama. All members are
encouraged to read the
complete guidelines.
As entertainment critic Roger
Ebert once said, "If you disagree with something I write, tell me so, argue
with me, correct me--but don't tell me to shut up. That's not the American way."

LAST EDITED ON 06-01-09 AT 12:43 PM (EST)*sigh* Not surprised. We've come close before this: an RGI contestant basically had a heart attack mid-challenge and wound up going out on a very panicked medivac. Since that happened on TBS, I could easily believe they wouldn't pay for the full battery of medical tests which would have told them not to cast him in the first place. An overseas Survivor edition... I want to think they have the money, responsibility, and common sense to check people over before sticking them in the game. I really want to think that. And then reality sets in. RIP, Mr. Vodenicharov. Let's see Burnett's equivalent try to enforce your contract into the next go-round...

Unfortunately a lot of people who have heart attacks don't have any risk factors we pick up on medical tests.Unfortunately what numbers are good/bad describe the populations pretty well and give you an idea of your risk, but they are actually pretty meaningless at the level of the individual. They are even worse at predicting the when even when they do a fair job at the who. Still a lot of people drop from a heart attack who are in apparently perfect health based on what we can measure. I also don't know if we have a good handle on predicting who may survive physically stressful conditions better than others, or only for a specific subset of stressful conditions, or which things make you more likely to survive condition A but more likely to have problems under condition B.
