"Country Rock Week "
LAST EDITED ON 03-25-03 AT 08:45 PM (EST)

I may be in the minority here, but I am really loving this new song theme. So often we hear a more R & B sound then anything else. Heard 3 performances so far ( I won't spill for those yet to watch) But I am enjoying the song choices. Really having a good a time with this.

Buggy- who confesses to owning 6 Garth Brooks CD's)

Edit: Oh and I forgot to say, am I the only one who is totally weirded out by the fact that Olivia Newton John looks exactly the same as she did when I was 12!???? She has got to be in her 50's. She look incredible! I look older then she does ( and I think I may hate her for it)* laugh*

You got your wish EJM!
And I really liked it!

Ruben is great with what he does.

I like that we saw some really different sides to the others too.

6. "Sweet Home Alabama"
I enjoyed Ruben's performance but he only sang part of one verse and then repeated the chorus about 10 times all the while lifting one arm.

He cracks me up tho!

The rest of the song deals with Lynyrd Skynyrd's quarrel with Neil Young. Probably wouldn't have been too appropriate for AI.

Sorry to say I'm with Simon on this one. Just not feelin' it. Ruben's the only one that "rocked", aside from Josh's karioke performance. Don't get me wrong, he wasn't bad. Just seemed he was trying to channel Garth.

After listening to most of the performances, I think it should have been called Country Soul Week.

is why they changed from disco to country/rock....and when did they decide to change it?

Personally, this totally threw off my AB picks.

Yet, after watching the show, I realized that the producers had told some of the singers that it was "Ballad Week". Someone somewhere decided to change the theme very shortly before airing.
Do producers decide the theme according to some left over stage prop, or what?

Country was supposed to be after Disco, but they changed it because Olivia Newton John had to move up her tour or something. So Disco is shelved to next week and Country this week.

That said--the theme should have been "Pop Songs sung by Country Singers". Only Josh and Ruben had real country songs. Everyone else had halfway country songs or not even country at all.

Ok, now I'm confused, wouldn't it have been more appropriate to HAVE Disco this week with Olivia as guest judge or has she gone over to Country Rock? Never realized Zanadu was Country Rock, hmmm, the things you learn

Olivia Newton John is perfect for this genre actually. She started out as a country singer. She was actually one of the first "Faith Hills" in that she began to cross over into more mainstream music when she became popular. (I guess that would "rock of the 80's) Most of the people in our generation only remember her Xanadu type songs though.

A local radio station wasa interviewing Kristin Holt this morning on my way to work. She said Josh was PISSED that Corey got to sing "Drift Away" because it wasn't country. She said that he said he should sing Alanis's Uninvited and add a fiddle to it.

She also said Corey, Reuben and somebody else share a room and that there's one bigger bed in it which everyone obviously thought Reuben should get but Corey was pissed about that too.

She said that several of the girls didn't practice that much this week because they were more concerned with what they were going to wear and how their hair looked.

Also said Kim C. and JD Adams are an item now and that she has a "shrine" to him in her room.

And she said that the judges all hear the performances at dress rehersal so they can have some time to think about what they are gonna say. Then she said that she didn't know why they didn't have better comments then.

OK - she's catty and smug and I like that. I'll listen next week to see what she says.

I knew I was forgetting somethign dishy! I finally remembered. The DJs asked Kristin if any of the contestants slept with stuffed animals or something (yes it is a lame question) and she said she wouldn't even talk about what some of those people take to bed with them. She said it was too early in the morning and it was a family show so she wouldn't talk about the stuff they bring to bed.

It was too funny!

13. "HATED IT!"
LAST EDITED ON 03-26-03 AT 09:50 AM (EST)

Country rock isn't exactly a genre for showing off vocal talent. I think that's why we heard so many country songs that didn't rock (i.e. ballads).

I thought there were a few really good performances, but really, overall (takes place next to munson & Simon)...not feelin it.

I'm surprised that so many people are complaining that they didn't hear 'country', given that the category was 'country rock'. The 'country idol' show's over on USA or TNN or something.
Not that we heard much of the rock part either!
