1. "The Korean couple" |
zombiebaby brought up an interesting question on the other thread... what's the significance of the Korean couple and why are we seeing them the way they've been shown so far? There *must* be a reason behind it!For example, the husband is always trying to control the wife and telling her to button up. Then later on, we see the guy running through the forest and coming to a stop in front of the Korean woman who's topless. What kind of story is going on here? Is she a 'man' dressed up as a woman? Or does she have the ability to speak English but the husband doesn't, and he is trying to control her lest she goes to talk to the other people and make him feel left out? Etc.?

http://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/bios/yunjin_kim.htmlShe's a Korean actress. An accomplished actress who has already made a name for herself in Korea — and all over Asia with the film Shiri — Yunjin Kim is making her mark on American television with Lost. Kim was bashful as a kid, so she decided to get over her shyness by taking drama classes in the seventh grade. She was immediately cast in a musical and fell in love with the theatre. Her Korean feature film credits include starring roles in Ardor, Yesterday, Iron Palm, Ginko Bed 2 and the Japanese film, Rush, as well as roles in the television weekend dramas With Love and Wedding Dress, and the miniseries Hunch and Beautiful Vacation. Kim was the Goodwill Ambassador for the 2002 World Cup in Japan and Korea, representing Korea. While born in Seoul, Korea, she grew up in Staten Island, New York. She attended the prestigious High School of Performing Arts in New York and received her BFA in acting from Boston University. Kim resides in South Korea with the love of her life — her 14-year-old dog, Tobi.

I don't know that much about US Marshals, but aren't they involved in capturing fugitives that commit Federal crimes? The Marshal also said she was dangerous? I said in the other thread maybe she was a terrorist or involved with terrorists.

We haven't even established that the person was the US martial at all. I still think that he was a bounty hunter.

21. "RE: Locke" |
LAST EDITED ON 10-14-04 AT 01:30 PM (EST)The backstory also failed (I think) to explain his "Colonel" nickname and the wierd "is this line secure" phone call at the office. Or was the phone call supposed to be an imagined fantasy sequence and the nickname something that coworkers gave him due to his wierd workplace behavior? And if so, what happened four years ago to damage his legs? Black ops military operation? Car accident with a soccer mom?? Anyways, did anyone else catch what I assumed to be the "Office Space"-inspired "TPS report" comment that the jerky young manager made to Locke during the first flashback? I love this show... I do think it's kinda wierd that none of the survivors remember Locke being wheeled onto the plane in a wheelchair and yet suddenly walking among them normally. I mean even if they forgot, his wheelchair has been hanging around the campsite for days now and apparently being used as a utility cart of sorts.

LAST EDITED ON 10-14-04 AT 02:27 PM (EST)LOL! I'm so glad someone else picked up on the TPS thing -- I laughed so hard! Sure hope he put a cover sheet on that... Honestly, my reaction to the "Colonel" thing is that it's merely related to the board game he and his co-worker are playing. I believe he was speaking to his co-worker on the phone and it's kind of like a "Dungeons and Dragons" dealie where they get really REALLY into playing the game. Roles and such. I also believe Locke has been in a wheelchair his whole life, but I have nothing other than my gut to back that up. (Well, better my gut than Lex's I guess, haha) We'll have to see....man, I love this show. Edited to add: Don't wheelchair passengers get put on the plane as part of that "pre-boarding" process? Perhaps he was put on the plane early enough that the other passengers didn't spot him or pay attention. Just a random thought. Handcrafted at the stroke of midnight by RollDdice

I said the same thing about the wheelchair in the other thread. I did not read this one first! Sorry for the dupe! Also he has to be a little "off" if he bought a ticket for Helen. Anyone who thinks a phone sex operator would go away with a customer has delusions. Handcrafted by RollDdice Don't Google "hairy toes"!!

I do think it's kinda wierd that none of the survivors remember Locke being wheeled onto the plane in a wheelchair and yet suddenly walking among them normally. With the wheelchair-bound I think most people look at the chair and not the person using it. People in wheelchairs always complain that people avoid eye-contact and conversation with them in public places. Other passengers may assume that the wheelchair was part of the planes "service" gear. It doesn't look like an expensive or personalized kind of chair. Very generic and just like the 'courtesy' wheelchairs airports offer to people needing them. Also, the door is left open for one of the minor players to "remember" in some future episode. a slice of Slice If Kali doesn't scare you, nothing will!

30. "RE: Locke" |
http://www.mentalhelp.net/psyhelp/chap5/STRESS, TRAUMA, ANXIETY, FEARS AND PSYCHOSOMATIC DISORDERS http://www.mentalhelp.net/psyhelp/chap5/chap5d.htm#a There are other major problems with the idea of trauma causing some long-term psychological problem. First, is the fallacy of the single cause, i.e. the tendency to overlook that the victim may have lacked the adaptive coping skills that were needed to handle the crisis, i.e. the individual may have had a predisposing vulnerability to some traumatic situation. Second, the identified traumatic event may have been merely a part of a complex "sick" environment, as when childhood sexual abuse occurs in a generally unhealthy family environment which had failed to provide the child with the confidence and skills to recognize, confront or avoid the abusive situation or to deal with it after the abuse was ongoing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychosomatic_illness The mind has a powerful influence over the body—this power is sometimes called the power of suggestion—and it is quite possible for a person to feel extremely physically ill without any real physical reason, especially if they suffer from an anxiety disorder. And as an aside, there's the historical John Locke to think about: http://oregonstate.edu/instruct/phl302/philosophers/locke.html "Though the familiar use of the Things about us, takes off our Wonder; yet it cures not our Ignorance."
