"American Idol - The Wildcard Show"
Not an awesome show tonight, but this competition will definately be heating up soon.....here are my critiques, with the singers ranked from one to nine.....the top two were too good to separate, so they are tied.

1. Clay Aiken - He's got the personality, the voice, and the total package....he deserves a spot in the final twelve, and will move on in the competition.

1. Trenyce - Awesome.....I really loved her in Group 1, and she has impressed me...liked the outfit, and I could tell that Randy was in love with it as well, lol. I wasn't a huge fan of the song, but she performed it beautifully....the only thing I do not like about Trenyce is that she doesn't use her last name...

3. Aliceyn Cooney - I figured from the beginning that she would be a good performer, and contrary to what the judges thought, I liked her a lot. She started off shaky and nervous, but she has a prescence about her that I like, and a cool personality...I think she will be able to move on to the next round.

4. Kimberly Caldwell - Is there a reason why she always gets picked to go first? She is most definately made for this competition, and probably should be in the finals....I didn't enjoy her performance tonight as much as I did her original "Come To My Window" back in the first eight....but she has great presence, and probably deserves to go through....there is, however, a longshot that she will go out.

5. Chip Days - I have liked him from the beginning....this performance was much better than the fourth eight performance...I liked him singing this song without music in the auditions, and I like his chances to be in the finals.

6. Nasheka - She was alright...just not a lot of emotion. I didn't like her very much the first time she performed, just something about her voice that is yet to thrill me. She has a legitimate shot at the final twelve, but I have many doubts...plus that tooth is bugging me.

7. Janine Falsone - Another ???? song choice...but she did a good job. Nothing especially exciting, but she was alright. She sang really good in NY, but this performance wasn't up to par.

8. Olivia Mojica - She is stunning, and I really liked her personality....but come on, she could have done much better....and I'm getting a little Blake-Paige vibe from she and "Mickey"...lol. I doubt she will make it through.

9. Carmen Rasmusen - Not a great fan of hers...she was a bit too nervous, and it almost looked as if she was lip-synching. I doubt she will have a chance to get into the finals, she is outta there as soon as she was in there.

Who the judges pick - Trenyce, Clay, Kimberly C. (Nasheka as an alternate)
Who the public will pick - Aliceyn (Chip as an alternate)

I wanna know what happened to Simon's quote that the American Idol will come from this group...he probably trashed it...I seriously doubt that will happen. Ruben and Josh all the way!

Clay is really the only one that impressed me tonight. I have not watched faithfully, so some were unknow to me. But I thought Kim. C. was straining, and not just because of her voice.

Yeah, my Raleigh boy comes through again! Clay was the cream of a decidedly disappointing crop. His line has been quite busy for the past hour - I've only gotten through a couple of times.

He and Trenyce were head and shoulders above the rest tonight. I did get through to vote for her relatively easy, though.

Kimberley will get a judges' pick based on past performance. This one was by far her worst showing of the competition, and she will not last long unless she can step up a notch. She had too many pitch problems during her last two performances, and up against the other finalists, she cannot afford to be flat again.

Who will get the 4th spot? I dunno. I give Chip credit for trying to make changes based on the constructive criticism of the judges, but he was a disappointment tonight.

I pretty much agree with you here emj...I was disappointed with Kim C. I thought she would be fired up to do a much better job. Clay was amazing...I really do hope he is the one that goes all the way.

Without a doubt, it was Clay's night. That was a superstar performance, better than anything I've seen from anyone so far.

It is way obvious that the judges picks are Kimberly, Clay and Trenyce so the only question is who gets the fan vote? I think it should be either Aliceyn or Chip, altho both deserve the finals more than Kimberly, IMHO.

WildCard Top 5

1. Clay - head and shoulders, baby, head and shoulders

2. Trenyce - What's up with Simon and his bad mood? Seems to me that he wanted to make sure that Kimberly and Clay would move on and refused to give it up for anyone, less they take votes away from his chosen two. She deserved a "good job" from the King Knob, but alas, it was not to be.

3. Chip - Guess I'm just a big Chip fan. IMO, he gave the best performance in Group 4 - not Josh, not Corey - and deserved his second chance. Showed variety in his style and song choice, something few othewrs have been able to do throughout the audition process. Which bring us to #4...

4. Aliceyn - I love her voice, love her look, love the song but can she sing anything else? I'd like to see her go through just to see what else she can do. She certainly deserves it more than....

5. Kimberly - the biggest disappointment of the season so far. She has it all and just failed to deliver...AGAIN. Will the judges give her a third chance? Sure looks like it.

I don't think it was an issue of taking votes away from Kimberly and Clay, I think it was an issue of being disappointed about Aliceyn. He talked her up so much when they announced the wildcard choices, and Paula was actually the heavy when discussing her performance. I don't think he liked Paula reminding folks that she had sung "Angel" during her first audition (although it didn't hurt Kimberley Locke to reuse a song).

And as for being a Chip fan...I want to be. He has a lovely voice, and sang beautifully in the group of 8. But he was stiff during that one. I was impressed that he tried to show versatility this time, even though this performance didn't seem all that strong in my opinion. Out of the choices, though I would like to see him go through - I prefer him to Kimberly C.

You're right, Bebo. I just can't help but be a bit cynical when it comes to Simon and his opinions and motives. But, hey. It's his company, his label. He can say and do what he wants. That said, more often than not, I think he's dead on. If they wanted a straight up competition based on fan vote, let the judges choose the wildcard contestants but let the audience put them through.

Honestly, I don't think it matters how many votes either Kimberly or Clay receive, they're going through.

6. "My interpretation"
Kimberly is boring. She has a great voice and tons of control, but I'd really prefer to hear her do something beyond the smoky, yelling voice songs. In my opinion, she's as bad as the ones who sing the same song over and over. Show some range and talent. I hope she does not go through, 'cause I already know exactly what she's going to do. Probably a Pretneders or Fleetwood Mac song. Yawn.

Clay came through again. He's got such a beautiful voice. I would buy his album and listen to it over and over again; it would easily be one of my favorites. Love his voice, love his personality, love him.

Nasheka did a lot better than the judges said she did, in my opinion. I think she needs to play to her strengths, though, and try to NOT be emotional. She has that "bored college girl" look that works for some people, like Avril Lavigne and Fiona Apple. She should use that. I erally like her voice a whole lot.

Carmen Rasmusen had a very strong vioce, but what's up with that squat? Did she have to go to the bathroom? Was she gearing up to take off like at a race? Who knows? It was very distracting. She had a unique voice (which was nice to hear) but she was pretty mediocre and lukewarm overall.

Olivia Mojica did sing last night, right? I dunno. I couldn't hear her at all. When you're being drowned out by your background singers and music, either step it up or fade into the background. She chose to fade. Bad choice.

janine Falsone has more personality than should be allowed. She's a fireball, but her voice was a little too high and immature (developement wise, not tone of- wise) for my tastes. She kinda has a Cher thing going on, and I really liked her look and her spunk. Not sold on her ability as a singer, though.

Chip Days is still one of my favorites. I really love the tone of his voice and I would like to hear more from him. I dunno why, but he seems to not be winning the judges over, and I don't really get it. They loved the Hercules kid and Chip is so much better than him. He made that song very sexy and I really hope he goes on.

Aliceyn Cooney sang Angel, again, and I was sorta torn on that. I'm really glad I got to hear her sing it her way 'cause it was really beautiful and very worth it, btu like Paula, I really am dying to hear how she sings other songs. I hope she goes on. I really want to hear what else she's got.

Trenyce is a gem. If she doesn't advance, this contest is rigged. I really love her voice and control and she's so dern cute. However, my advice to her would be to NOT wear her hair in a ponytail thing sprouting out of the top of her head. Shes too tall and thin for that. She needs to attempt to look a little more natural. Her top last night (the sheer thing with the little bikini number) was cute, but would have looked so much better paired with a little pair of jeans or with a leather skirt. The flourescent pink denim, hoop earrings and super tall ponytail looked so 80s... and not in a good way.

Who I'd like to see advance:

1. Clay
2. Trenyce
3. Chip
4. Aliceyn

Who I think will advance:

1. Clay
2. Kimberly
3. Trenyce
4. Aliceyn

hmmmm....at first if you notice right at the VERY beginning kimberly started "her stuff" again....they show the "green" room and there she was reaching over to hold hands with someone or giving a high five right in front of camera...and i thought...oh LORD>>>>here we go again...the attitude...she is back...but my personal opinion is that the judges PURPOSEFULLY said bad things about her so that she didn't look like the "shoo-in" that she most definitely is AND so that she didn't act like a diva through the rest of last nights show (it worked!)....i live for the day america votes her off.

i loved clay...he is so funny looking but WHO CARES...its the voice BABEE....that is what sells me a CD...

i guess nakesha won't smile because of her teeth?tooth? someone mentioned it in a post but again....she is gonna let a TOOTH stop her from going on???....whatever...

many of the others were stiff....but sang alright....remember how BAD whitney houston danced in her first video?? so again WHO CARES??? i know..they are looking for the WHOLE package..

since no one has mentioned it ...i have to.....justin guarini is SOOOOO FULLLLLL OF HIMSELFFFFFFFF>>>>>did you see that?????
he was over the top! ok...i am done...i say let kimberly go through cause simon is gonna give her a contract either way.

9. "RE: American Idol - The Wildcard Show"
Anyone else dissappointed overall by this show? I was so prepared to be blown away--but I wasn't. It wasn't horrible, and if this were a group, they'd be one of the better ones, but overall I think that Group 2 and maybe Group 1 was better than this group overall.

A few thoughts about performances:

1.)Clay - Best performance of the night--and maybe the top performance overall so far. He will blow everyone away in the fan voting.

2.)Trenyce - Rock on girl! She was my fave in Group 1 and I'm glad she made the most of the opportunity here.

After these 2 there was a gap:

3.)Janine - I didn't hate her. She has a nice voice actually, the song didn't seem right for her, but she tried to sell it and seems to have class.

4.)Nasheka - She still looks like she wants to beat me up whenever she is in front of the camera. Not my type of voice, but I actually do see her appeal.

5.)Aliceyn - Not bad. Easy song to sing though. Memo to Paula: Maybe if you advanced her past the 2nd round the first time, she would have sang something different! You can't fault her for using the strategy others have used by singing the same song as in their auditions.

6.)Kimberly - After she sang, I thought she was terrible! I was like "Hah, she blew it!" But after listening to everyone else, she is probably in middle level to upper half. This group isn't 4 people deep.

7.)Chip - More personality which is good. Horrid, horrid song choice. He could not handle the high notes on this song which caused his voice to crack whenever he tried for them! I'm shocked Randy didn't cut him down as well. He was better last week.

8.)Olivia - Talk about forgettable performance. I honestly can't remember what song she sang during the show--and it was only last night. I'm usually not this bad. The only thing I remember is that her voice was soooo soft. Not sure if it was a mike issue, but you don't want to be overpowered by your background singers.

9.)Carmen - Has the perfect voice. For Yodelling.

9. Carmen Rasmusen - Not a great fan of hers...she was a bit too nervous, and it almost looked as if she was lip-synching. I doubt she will have a chance to get into the finals, she is outta there as soon as she was in there.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought she looked like she was lip-synching. I was sitting there wondering the whole time why there was an audio track running in the background.

Clay Clay Clay!!! This boy can sing. While listening to him last night, Mr. L8 and I both thought he was the best we've seen so far in this competition. His voice ranks right up there with Elton, Phil Collins, Billy Joel, etc. He is good enough to support his own fan base and I would buy his albums. He's the one I'll be rooting for.

Trenyce put a lot of energy and emotion into her song. She was a little off note at times, but her enthusiasm made up for it.

Chip was pretty good. I like his voice. Maybe this wasn't the best song for him, but I thought he did allright by it. I wouldn't mind seeing him move on.

Alecyn has a very pretty voice. I would also like to see her sing a different type of song, but I can understand why she repeated.

Kimberly just does not do it for me. I'm not crazy about her voice, and I really think she's full of herself. She did OK on the song, but she's not as hot as they've made her out to be.

Janine reminded me SO much of Janice on Friends, especially when she laughed. She can sing OK, but a Pat Benetar song was not the best choice. Pat has an 8 octave voice, and most can't come close to her range.

Nasheka was OK. That's about it, didn't care for the song she chose. Bette Midler has a very distinct voice. If you're going to do one of her songs, you have to change it up drastically or you'll end up looking like an impersonator who fell short. She ended up in that category, IMO.

Olivia needed to put some more into that song. She is a beautiful girl, though, and I could almost see the modeling contracts being signed.

Carmen wasn't that great. I wouldn't listen to her singing for long.

My Choices:
CLAY
Trenyce
Chip
Aliceyn

Judges and America's picks:
CLAY
Kimberly
Trenyce
Aliceyn

Trenyce rocked. She got ripped off in round one, and it better bloody well not happen again.

Clay also did a fabulous job.

Everyone else was shit.

I suppose Chip was allright. Next best ebhind the first two. I can't see them letting both guys move on though.

Interesting point. No doubt one of the motivations behind expanding the original field of 10 finalists to 12 was to even out the number of guys and girls, 6 - 6. The only guy to get through tonite will be Clay.

Only 4 of them were good.

1. Clay: Hands down the best. He should have made it in already.

2. Trenyce. She was really alive tonight. Hated her outfit though.

3. Kim C. She has been better, but she did well enough.

4. Aliceyn. She was ok, but I think she makes it.

5. Chip. Good voice, but he is soooooooo dull.

The rest are all forgettable. Just one thing, what the hell was Nasheka thinking when she sang "Wing Beneath My Wings", it's like that girl that sang "What about the Children" last week.

MY Picks: Clay, Trenyce, Kim C. and Aliceyn.

Judges: Clay, Trenyce and Kim C.

Public: Aliceyn or Chip.

Well, that was overall pretty unimpressive. I bet the judges are kicking themselves for bringing back girls who didn't make it through and didn't deserve to instead of Kimberley K., Hadas, or Equoia...but that just makes chances even better for my boy...

1. CLAY! CLAY! CLAY! CLAY! - by far the best singer in this competition, and the cutest...I always listen to him sing a couple more times after I have watched the tape. He IS the next American Idol.

2. Trenyce - very nice performance, much better than the first time...she still scares me a little bit, but hey, at least she's really putting some power into it

3. Chip - thought he did a very good job, much more personality, etc....however I don't think he has a chance since the judges are going to want three girls and one guy from this group and obviously Clay is that guy...so unless he gets the public vote, he may be screwed.

4. Kimberly C. - she at least has something going for her, she'll at least make a good villain, and she's a better performer than the other 5

now after this i don't know....but there's a good chance one of these 5 will get the 4th spot...

5. Aliceyn - only because....you know I don't even know, I thought she butchered the song...wasn't beautiful or haunting at all...cut off the ends of phrases...but I like her better than the others.

6. Nasheka - she'll probably take the fourth spot...but the wind beneath my wings? what a ridiculous song choice for her.

7. Janine - she's hot, definitely has the look...better performer than bottom two

8. Carmen - I also thought she was lip-synching, which just means she sounds like a radio recording of Leann Rimes..

9. Olivia - just sucked the life out of the song completely

Simon! What in the world was that?

I'm sorry, but Carmen sucks! She's not as low as say, Nikki, but ugh! She has a terrible vibratto and she has this weird natural twang that just makes her hard to listen to, at least that's what my ears are saying. I know the 4th pick was up in the air, but surely (more like absolutely) there were a couple of other people in that group that deserved it more than her. Maybe they're just trying to make the first elimination easy?

Carmen's family must know some Fox executives or something. Jeanine and Alicyn (however they spell their names) were both better than Carmen. Good grief, he is a lunatic.

Oh holy heck, Simon's a lunatic. Carmen? I ranked her dead last. Thought Chip would make it in, was hoping it would be Aliceyn, but Carmen? What was it exactly that Simon was drinking?

Am I the only one that likes Kimberly C.? I really like Reuben and Clay for this show though. If Clay were animated in a Disney show he'd be a little gray mouse with a huge voice, he's so danged cute.

I've already admitted in this very thread that I'm a cynic. It has served me well. Then I see Simon choose Carmen to go through and my first thought is, "Well, he found a way to get two blonde white girls in the finals after all, the American voting public be damned!" Neither deserved to make the Top 10, er, 12 (another blantant attempt to pack the field with the "look" he's looking for) based on their performances alone. I guess the key to success in the music industry, at least from Simon's perspective, is looks, especially blonde, especially white - talent optional.

Whee are the Norah Jones, John Mayer, the 50 Cent of this competeion. Take a look at the most popular American music today (Bllboard anyway) and I'm not seein any of what I'm seein on this show.

I almost had to throw things at my TV last night. Actually I think I did, which Mrs. Malfoy didn't like. But what the ##### was up with Ryan and the judges? They were acting like total morons! And the bit with "I can't read the card" went on entirely too long. You could tell even the contestants were not happy after a while. There was no reason at all that this should have been an hour long. The judges took WAY too much of the focus from the contestants. The only really funny line of the past two nights was Simon's parting shot at Dunkleman. Not that I'm complaining, but what the hell happened to him anyways?

The only choice I have any question about really is CARMEN? Oh my heck! Simon, I love ya, but what the hell are you thinking? You know he had to be wanting a do-over when she was singing, that was possibly the worst performance by a top 32+er that we've had.

Clay better win this thing.

I agree Draco.

And I'd like to add: SHUT UP PAULA!!!!!

We know you don't like Simon, but your "put downs" and snide comments are about as witty as a six year old. Why do you have to open your mouth at all?

I could not agree more with Draco and you. Ryan is an idiot, the producers are ruining this show, and Paula will have no career after this (so I guess there is something good coming out of it)

If Paula says one more time that she and Randy were the only ones to first recognize the talent in specific contestants that Simon did not like (and usually rightly so), I will personally start stalking her. Of course you did Paula, you like everyone! Well almost Everyone! You hedge all your bets.

My SO and I have decided to stop watching this show because it is to scripted and annoying. If they have to use so much filler and crap, they should cut the result show to 30 minutes and focus on the contestants.

Simon being show with altered images, come on. What are they in grammer school? My only consolation is that Simon is laughing all the way to the BANK.

LOL, we unanimously hated Carmen and of course she gets the 4th wildcard spot.

If Simon's rant about the producers was in fact real and not totally scripted--then it's possible his pick of Carmen was a revenge pick. Maybe he wanted to pick Chip but wasn't allowed because of the gender balance--or they were pushing him to take on of the non-32 people.

I was shocked and upset as everyone else at first--but after thinking about it, I only have to laugh. Part of the fun of this show is slamming on bad singers. (What about the children?) Whether it was Chip/Nasheka/Janine/etc. I don't think they would have had a serious shot of winning. And now we get to hear at least one more performance.

I might be forced to vote for her next week. I really really want Corey or Rickey to be the first one to go.

That's true; it'd be boring without the Nikki's and the Jim's but usually I'd expect the voting public to make the really bad choices. I wish he'd picked someone with a chance in hell of getting past the first couple of weeks. Or for Carmen to suddenly improve so I don't have to leave the room during her performance.

The names are going to be confusing again this season! When I read Corey, I thought you meant Clay. I was like, "Huh?... Oh, he means the guy who shouldn't even have been in the final 32!" We have - Kimberly & Kimberley, Corey & Clay, Rickey & Ruben (not to mention look-alikes Carmen & Kimberly). I think I like the name Trenyce better now. Thankfully there aren't any E.J., A.J., R.J. confusions this year!

Managerr, what is also possible is that Simon was instructed to pick Carmen - which doesn't go at all with his comments of the night before (You're not good enough to continue")

In response to someone else, the results show normally is only 30 minutes (and feels too long there - more like maybe 4 minutes' worth of show - in fact, I've thought they should do away with the results show and just announce the results at the start of the following week. Maybe allow everyone a whole week to vote.)

But look at all that advertising revenue that would be lost.

People told me that Star Search was a nothing little show and American Idol is the one to watch. AI is SUCH a pukefest - there is so much wrong with it - the Frenchie thing, the on & on with that idiot Ryan, the selection of CARMEN !!! and COREY !! when there are some really talented (relatively speaking) singers who aren't moving into the Final 12.

Perhaps this explains Simon's "bad mood." Didn't Simon also mention that the two songs sung by Carmen were both written by a good friend of his? Ahhhh...the pressure!

We have 9 really good singers here. Rickey, Charles, Carmen are all expendable, they will be the first three to go. Hopefully Rickey, I can't stand him.

Go Josh and Clay !!!!!

Way too much banter among Ryan and judges last night. Clay looked like he was in agony for the entire 55 minutes before they called his name.

I, too, wish Paula would shut up. She keeps interrupting people and it's bloody annoying.

Simon's pick is obviously revenge on somebody. He seems to be a very ego-driven man so I'll betcha that the disappointing performance of his little protege Alicyn hurt his ego and this is his way of having a tantrum.

Carmen obviously didn't make an impression on Ryan, either. He forgot about her when he re-introduced the final 12 at the end of the show.
