Two Survivors battle to provide for their tribe. One brings home a clam; one brings home a shark. Ian and Tom... Sitting out a Challenge, one Survivor finds it hard to watch from the sidelines and doubts the tribe's ability to win. I want to say this is Tom as well, in which case this will be a huge episode for him (which does make sense, considering the title). He's only ever sat out for one challenge, after all(Gregg too, I believe. Ian sat out for more, as did Colby, and the girls practically lived on the bench). A tribe member is suspicious of a potential alliance forming between two very friendly tribemates that could spoil a game plan. The previews show this to be Tom(worried about Gregg and Kim), don't they? This is why I'm skeptical about the second one being him, even though he's the only one I see getting that itch. During a crucial Immunity challenge, one Survivor takes over for a struggling tribemate. Will it be enough to win? Whenever they ask that sort of question, the answer is usually no, which following the spoilers, would suggest this is about Ulong.

LAST EDITED ON 03-24-05 AT 10:02 AM (EST)Two Survivors battle to provide for their tribe. One brings home a clam; one brings home a shark. Sounds to me like they're talking about BJ for Ulong and Tom for Koror Sitting out a Challenge, one Survivor finds it hard to watch from the sidelines and doubts the tribe's ability to win. For some reason Greg comes to mind, but I don't know why! A tribe member is suspicious of a potential alliance forming between two very friendly tribemates that could spoil a game plan. Obviously this is Tom refering to Greg and Jenn During a crucial Immunity challenge, one Survivor takes over for a struggling tribemate. Will it be enough to win? Probably someone picking up Ibrehem's slack in a water challenge and therefore it won't be enough to win

Also, at tribal council, it was mentioned that Ian was the 'leader' in providing food(I think 'clams' was even said) for the tribe. Which is what has me really going 'hmmm' about this whole shark thing, since Ian doesn't appear to be involved in it at all...

Assuming Mersaydeez is correct about BJ or Ibe going next and the fire challenge happens in Episode 8 (based on "Neanderthal Man" referring to the challenge) and there is a switch in Episode 7 (cmc info), then the person switched has to be the one voted out. You'd think they'd give that poor sucker who was kidnapped immunity though.

If the kidnapping happens next week and the fire starting challenge the week after, might it be possible that Ulong actually loses immunity next week? If BJ is kidnapped I would presume he would be safe, so perhaps Janu could be our next boot? This would fit in with spoilers that BJ lasts until week 4 and would still fit with Mersaydeez.

Here is a quick random thought - from a blondeKoror wins reward and takes Ibe/BJ - then Ulong loses immunity and Steph and Ibe/BJ have fire challenge loser goes home - Steph sleeps by herself overnight - they come together and still merge at the 10 - Ibe/BJ goes at 10. I know the episode #'s are off - but seems like that is a possibility.

That was the scenario I was working with too until we got "Neanderthal Man" as the title for episode 8. If it refers to the fire building challenge (which I admit I'm not convinced of), then that scenario doesn't work.

>And when does the storyboard say >the "merge" occurs? > >ETA: It says in Ep. >10--does that go by the >wayside bc of Koror's dominance >in ICs and the inability >to wait that long? Isn't episode 10 impossible now anyway? Assume BJ/Ibe gone E7, Ibe/BJ gone E8, Steph now by herself in E9. Would they do a whole episode with just 1 tribe member and still wait till E10 for whats left of a merge?
I've also had a problem trying to fit all the various pieces of info together around here and need some help. This is the way I WAS leaning....... BJ, or possibly Ibe, gets kidnapped this week which would make the Neanderthal Man episode probably refer to the supposed fire building competition between Steph and whoever next week. (and for whoever it was that said their problem with that was because steph is not a MAN, there were neanderthal WOMEN also, it just refers to that era when man(kind) harnessed fire) But here's the problem. If one of Ulong IS kidnapped, then the fire building would have to be this week if they lose at IC. Therefore, to fit the spoilers, Koror would finally have to lose an IC and vote off their kidnapped victim. But would the show allow a player to be kidnapped and then voted off right away like that without granting immunity to that person for the next IC? That wouldn't make much sense. But if Koror were to vote off anyone else, it wouldn't fit with the spoiler information. I have seen various speculation about BJ based on spoiler info that had him making it to the 4th week, then spec that it meant 4th episode, then back to the 4th week, and now I see in some places that he makes it to E7. If that last part is the correct part, then he couldn't survive this week to participate in the fire building. But either way, E7 and E8 don't get him to the 4th week do they? I don't know what the day count is on the island now so I am depending on someone here to tell me. Does the kidnap info specifically SAY that it is an Ulong player taken, or could Ulong actually be the tribe that gets to kidnap a Koror member? If so, perhaps that player is given temporary immunity and Ulong loses the IC and STILL has to vote off one of their own. Then next week, the kidnap victim gets to return to their original tribe leaving Ulong a tribe of 2 and forcing the fire building next week. I was off some this past week so I need guidance to get on the right path this time around. Send help.......and cookies.

If so, I say the shot of Ulong on the beach is after the RC because of BJ with no shirt on. He has his shirt on returning to camp in the other pic. ETA: Notice the tribal flag in the first two pics. This is their flag that they have taken to the challenges.

But....but....wouldn't they look happy or sad or angry or something if this is post challenge? Admittedly their reactions might be dulled. A loss would be no shock to anyone. OTOH, with a victory there's still the hope of a merge at 10 the next day and possibly latching onto the Koror minority. Thanks to the CBS Fuzz-o-matic pic editor I can't be positive, but other than a spark of life from BJ, they just look serious.

>Well, I don't know if we >can see their faces good >enough to determine the exact >look. I think their biggest >reaction would be at/immediately after >the challenge. Yeah, I don't >like the quality of the >pics but this is all >we have. Ok, so it sometimes takes me a while to catch on and learn new things. lol I just learned something a little earlier. I already knew that I could go to the CBS site and watch the preview video (where these pics come from) in it's entirety. What I didn't discover until a couple hours ago is that I can view it in the theater mode which takes up the entire computer screen. Bigger picture, better to see. Stupid me. It is also much easier to pause and restart with the slightly different controls for the theater mode. Purely speculation, but this is what I think I see......
The 2 pics of Ulong that is being debated.....the first one looks as though they are leaving camp heading to a challenge. Nothing says that when they leave camp, they head straight into the trees and emerge from them at their time of arrival. Their beginning path could very well be along the beach for a ways, and THEN through a wooded area. In the video, they look neither happy nor sad. They simply have expressions of people heading off to work. Steph is carrying something under her right arm, and BJ is not only carrying his shoes in his right hand, but some other object in his left hand. There is some sort of strap hanging from it and swinging back and forth. It doesn't seem to be visible in the pic here because apparently in is on an upswing in this particular shot, but it can clearly be seen in the full video. In the second picture, we cannot see what BJ was carrying, but whatever it is that Steph has, can be seen resting on the ground next to her. After endless staring, thinking, and pondering, BJ's object seems to be a diving mask, and Stephs object seems to be a pair of swinfins, or whatever they are called. Since sea stars is the IC and is also the most likely of the two challenges to utilize these objects, I am guessing the first pic is Ulong heading TO the IC, and the second one is them back at camp AFTER the IC. It is also quite apparent that they have lost yet again. As for some of the other pics, Gregg apparently spots a shark close to shore and starts running after it, and is joined by Tom for the kill. It looks as though Coby is brushing his teeth or something at the camp, and hears the commotion and turns his head to see what's going on. A shot of who appears to be Ian chopping a board with an axe is shown just before a comment from Stephanie. Also pics of Gregg calling someone a madman. (apparently Tom since he isn't in the pic and I doubt he would be calling Coby that) Koror looking in the air and jumping for joy. I don't think they are trying to signal the plane from SOS or they would be more animated, probably waving objects, and Tom would be signalling more than he is instead of just smiling and waving at the plane. I am guessing they are waving and happy because the plane has returned and is dropping their reward. Can someone please tell me why they would use old pics of BJ in a couple spots in all of this? Could he possibly get kidnapped sometime after the IC, as is being suggested, and this is a way of using flashbacks or something to show why Koror might have chosen him? Am I way off on this stuff or does any of it have some merit?

LAST EDITED ON 03-24-05 AT 07:11 PM (EST)Some new pics are up at Phoenix. Looks like one of the challenges is SOS. If it's RC and BJ is kidnapped it's likely not until later. http://resources.survivorphoenix.com/graphics/gallery/S10E07promoA/S10E07promoA087 It looks like a Koror victory. If the reward is given at the IC and the reward is a hostage, it may explain this misdirection: >Sitting out a Challenge, one Survivor finds it hard to watch from the sidelines and doubts the tribe's ability to win. Koror kidnaps BJ before the challenge and BJ is the sit out. I had a BJ kidnaping theory a few weeks ago. It obviously didn't happen when I expected it to, but parts still work. Whether he's given the option to return to Ulong and declines or Koror has to keep him for at least one night, it leaves us with the same Ib/Steph IC scenario with Steph spending the night alone, then perhaps joining BJ at Koror the next day. ETA: SOS is on the story board as the RC for ep. 7.

I think my theory was way back when for The Best Reward Ever ep, but as usual that didn't work. I didn't know MREs were the challenge reward so my above theory is also quite unlikely. However it happens, I totally agree with your kidnapping in ep. 7 scenario as well as how the rest plays out. Editing looks like Ib is at peace with how things have turned out but BJ is still fighting. Winners keep fighting, but probably for just one more week.

43. "RE: See-BS misdirection - Episode 7" |
I was just over at Sucks and BJ mentioned TV guide features the individual immunity necklace for ep. 7. The only way I can account for its presence at the moment is that there's the prospect that one tribe will be down to 2 members before they depart the challenge area. This allows for a kidnapping by Koror and the tribal IC followed by individual firestarting immunity for the 2 left on Ulong. I also read that this misdirection: Sitting out a Challenge, one Survivor finds it hard to watch from the sidelines and doubts the tribe's ability to win is rephrased "Forced to sit out a challenge" in a different publication. Koror may have to sit out 5 people but the word forced seems more appropriate for somebody who expected to have to participate. I can possibly see this as Ian in a water challenge or perhaps Tom or Gregg but it makes more sense that it's an Ulong. I've had a problem with the alleged BJ kidnapping this episode because the MREs sound like a decent reward. If it plays out like the Rupert kidnapping and an Ulong is kidnapped after the IC, they should kidnap Ib who has been the weaker player, forcing one of the 2 strongest Ulongs out of the game. With kidnapping as the second part to the RC, therefore occurring prior to the IC, Koror would be more inclined to kidnap a strong player like BJ or Steph, guaranteeing (as if that was necessary) another Koror victory. Bob With yet another hairbrained BJ kidnapping scenario

Yes, that's what I'm thinking in a much less wordy way I don't know if this helps explain why I think there's a kidnapping this week, but here's the math. Going into this episode SOS should be a last ditch attempt to save Ulong. They won fabric with the sewing kit, have more clothes, and 3 strong people to haul things and put them in place. Until last week, Koror had been intentionally sitting out their strong people for the RCs, so superficially this seems like a challenge Ulong really could or should win. Should the kidnapping immediately prior to the IC be one of the RC rewards, you'd have 4 Ulong against 4 Koror for the IC. In the likely event Ulong picked Tom, Ulong would also stand an excellent chance of winning the IC. That being the case, Koror would suddenly be down by 2 - no Tom plus somebody voted out at TC, and the tribes would be 6/4. With a delayed merge at 9 we'd have one more week to even out the numbers at 5/4 or at least give Ulong a better chance after the merge at 6/3. At 6/3 Tom would likely have been voted out of Ulong and 3 original Ulong would be among the final 9. Oh, and BJ would make it to the 4th week....

I can easily see your scenario happening as well. First, because I'm usually wrong and second, BJ's all over the vidcaps. My first instinct was that he's a goner this ep. Those vidcaps reminded me of his quote "Winners keep fighting." It looks like he's given up.

The use of "they" misled me into thinking it is the tribe that gets worried, but rereading this in conjunction with the original misdirection, "they" must refer to the person who is sitting out (i.e. incorrect usage of "they", so as to avoid saying "he" or "she"). This sounds to me like Coby making snide comments while sitting out and watching Koror work on the SOS challenge.
