"EP5 Confessional Analysis"
LAST EDITED ON 03-21-05 AT 11:31 AM (EST)

Corvis has his confessional Analysis here, and does an excellent job with his detailed analysis based on confessional type:
http://survivorthoughts.blogspot.com/2005/03/confessional-analysis-episode-5.html

Verucasalt's thread on the editing, should also be used in conjunction with the Confessional analysis to arrive at your conclusions:

Here’s the updated confessional count and analysis for EP5…

Narrators:

At Korror the narrator role shifted yet again; this week back to Coby, from Ian and Tom in previous weeks. The pattern observed is a shared responsibility between Ian, Tom and Coby. As we know, they'll all make "the merge", in whatever form that takes.

At Ulong, the narrator role has moved around, but it seems to have settled with Stephenie. Stephenie continued as the closest thing the disfunctional Ulong tribe has to a narrator.

EP5 Boot:

The strange nature of the double boot forced the attention to be split between Willard and Angie and the three votes at TC, so normal confessional patterns went out the window.

As we've discussed, this season’s editing pattern has changed from last season, probably to accomodate the unusually lopsided nature of the game, and the need to develop the Ulong characters in a more compressed timetable.

Under the Radar:

At Ulong, Ibrehem remains under the radar at Ulong with the lowest number of confessionals, but has seen increasingly more exposure.

Katie, Caryn, Janu and Jennifer were well under the radar this week and continue to be undeveloped as characters. They should be safe this week.

Confessional Count Volatility:

Dramatic increases ("spikes") and decreases ("hidden") are worth noting because they indicate a change in the editing pattern of a character. This volatility is usually associated with a character moving in or out of danger.

Ulong:

After last week's "spike" James could be considered "hidden" this week with only 2 confessionals, and those were focused on Ibrehem.

Koror:

The only confessional activity that might be considered volatile at Koror was Coby and Gregg stepping into the spotlight and beginning to reveal strategies. We know what that means...

Ian and Tom were apparently put on the back burner for now, to make room for the upcoming story of others.

Conclusions:

At Koror Coby and Greg's confessional volatility suggests that they are moving into danger.

At Ulong James had a significant confessional spike last week, and was hidden this week, setting him up for a "surprise" boot when Ibrehem's faith helps him to survive.

It looks like the editing may be going back to the patern of last season. I agree with you KB. The unusual circumstances of this season did result in a more eradict pattern.

Thanks for doing this, as always it is appreciated. Let's see if the pattern evolves as we get closer to the individual competitions....
