i was thinking that too... but then, wouldn't you rather stay around and try to keep that person someone from getting the exemption? like bribs did, he didn't want bill to get the exemption, so he hit the ball. i still think that dorothy hit out of turn on purpose "if i can't get the exemption, no one will!" plus she get more time to observe the other players if she stays in.
