PLEASE NOTE: The Reality TV World Message Boards are filled with desperate
attention-seekers pretending to be one big happy PG/PG13-rated family. Don't
be fooled. Trying to get everyone to agree with you is like herding cats,
but intolerance for other viewpoints is NOT welcome and respect for other
posters IS required at all times. Jump in and play, and you'll soon find out
how easy it is to fit in, but save your drama for your mama. All members are
encouraged to read the

Ebert once said, "If you disagree with something I write, tell me so, argue
with me, correct me--but don't tell me to shut up. That's not the American way."

10. "RE: Benji = closet gay?" |
LAST EDITED ON 08-04-06 AT 04:26 AM (EST)I am just curious, just as unimportant as it is, it should not be such a big deal that I would ask. I was in no way rude or putting down the dancers. No you weren't putting down the dancers per se, but your sentence structure obviously left a lot of fellow posters with a bad taste in their mouth. As if your question was based in 1. misinformation and 2. with unapologetic demeanor. Being Gay is not what it used to be it is much more common and much more accepted, especially in the dancing world. True. Which is why your question seemed even more irrelevent. If it's so accepted why would it matter? I find it odd that anyone would object to this when the judges themselves have made comments which I would deem inappropriate in relation to a dancers possible sexual preference, does anyone remember Mary Murphy telling Travis he was not Masculine enough?
Because of the fact that Mary was not talking about his sexuality. She was talking about his partnership/leadership skills. Masculinity is something that commonly refers to the style with which the "males" lead their "female" dancing partners. Masculinity has nothing to do with being or not being gay. As you've mentioned, "Being Gay" is much more common. (Which is a falacy. It's just that there are less bigots around now.) If this were true, the whole topic of his sexuality (Which is none of anyone's business.) wouldn't have even been brought up. Who really cares what Benji does in his own bedroom when we're here to judge his dancing?

T.H. and others new to the boards....In case you're wondering why we're circling the wagons here on the gay issue.... Most of us are battle-scarred veterans of the gay wars on Off Topic, so we tend to come out fighting when the subject comes up. Your motives may have been in fun, and whether or not I agree with your motives is not the point, but I thought I'd give you a reasonable explanation. I acted hastily, and I believe I was wrong to do so. One way or another, welcome to the boards. One of the Tribe

*nods* all too often peeps seem to post about gay-ness because they want to start something, not because they are merely curious.

>Um, yoo hoo, hello....this is the >dancing world. Rather than >asking who is gay, the >real question should be who >isn't. *waves at Tahj!* How you doin'? I have a brother that makes a living as a professional musician. People have asked me, his sister, about his sexual orientation because of his profession. It isn't the PC police. It's a stupid question. I don't want to think about my BROTHER's sex life! (regardless of WHAT it is!) Saying that to others gets the "Well, I was just CURIOUS" response, too. My response to that? It's not your business unless you're the one sleeping with them (or wanting to) But there DOES seem to be a prevalence of assumptions about sexual orientation in "The Arts." It's also an intrusive question. I don't walk around asking "What do you think is his/her net worth?" or listing other people's health histories. That's none of my business, either. And, people don't respond with "Why are you getting your panties in a bunch because I asked what you MAKE for a living?" --It's the same. We aren't asking, "So, who up there do you think is a virgin?" because it's also a private matter, and 100% irrelevant to them being dancers! However, we automatically see how inappropriate "Do you think he/she is a virgin?" question would be. (Don't we?) --This is no different. And, the question DOES come across as ::nudge, nudge, do you think he/she IS?:: you know...gay? ---which is where the reaction came from...

I don't know why all you folks have gotten your panties in such knots. Asking if an effeminate seeming man is gay is as common now as asking your significant other if she finds a man attractive. It is just human curiosity. I doubt the poster asked the question to some how discourage people from liking him or that they are some sort of homophobe. Also stage wagon boy you mention the tribe. Are you talking about the tribe of Israel? I am a member of that tribe and I always want to know who else is. I just found out that Ryan Star from Rockstar was also a member of my tribe. I gave me more of a connection to him and the show even though Storm is my favorite. I am not gay but I like to think that my gaydar is as good as my jewdar and I don't know why but I asked my wife if she thought benji was gay. Maybe I want to set him up with my gay cousin in case I run into him during the top tour..Who knows? But I hope the originator of this question doesn't let themselves get too intimated by the PC police on this board. And if I find out if he or anyone else on the show it gay I will let you know. Benji is my favorite along with his cousin although I think the best person for celine would be Travis. I also think my cousin would be more into him than Benji. I miss Alyson so much. I had a major crush on her but when I found out she was only 18 boy did I feel like a dirty old man at 38. If anyone wants to know who in the industry (movies, music) is Jewish let me know and I will let you know. I am pretty sure there wasn't a single Jew in the top 20. I thought Natalie might be till I saw her cross. I think Benji is Mormon and if he is gay that is very tough as I know more closeted Mormons than almost any other religion. Catholic is a close 2nd. Tons of Jews that are out.
