VANESSA ?!!!!! She did not deserve to go. There are others like Rickey and Charles that should have gone before her. I think the public was freaked by her outfits. But she has a very nice voice and great personality. She did sing better after being dumped than she did last night. WOW !!!!! I'm still stunned.

I've tried to figure out the implications of voting FOR your favorite rather than against your least favorite. Say 3 million people think singer A is the worst and 500000 think he/she is the best. Then, 1 million people think singer B is the worst, 2 million think she's okay, and 100000 think he/she is the best. More people don't like singer A, but singer B is the one to go. It kind of implies that someone would do better at least in the beginning to have a love 'em, hate 'em following because the hate 'ems will split their vote.

Charles ain't going anytime soon. He is the only person who suffered not from a bad performance the other night, but from a bad mix (the music was just way louder than his voice.) He will be top 5 - I will bet my Mole 4 summary on it!

Well, I didn't expect her to stick around a long, long time, but I don't think she's the worst one of the 12.There is a group of them that have to bring their A game every week just to survive - Ricky, Corey, Charles, Julia, Carmen, and KL. There are others who can slip a little for them, but still survive a less than stellar week. Unfortunately, Vanessa wasn't one of those. But I agree, she handled it with class.

LAST EDITED ON 03-13-03 AT 11:37 AM (EST)We usually disagree with these shows and I usually come around to your thinking. But this time I agree with you right off the bat. She did sing very well last night. I was shocked she was the one dumped. He hair and outfits were her persona and I liked her. She is who she is and I wish her the best of luck with a future. I wish I could sound as nice as she did at the close of the show last night. Congrats to Katem for hitting 2800, 3K is not far away. Can't wait to see it!

Many of you have already touched on various reasons for Vanessa's exit. I concur. The snappy comeback to Ryan going to break, the constant mugging, and the very fine line between eccentric and freakish all played a part. The video presentation wasn't all that flattering either. Vanessa was kind of like that artsy, outcast girl in high school - talented, sure, but when up against the popular kids, she hardly stands a chance in a popularity contest. So much for the idea that the package doesn't matter to the American public. It sure as hell does and Simon, more than anybody, understands this. Those Brits are very good at demographics and marketing. Image IS everything. Don't be fooled by the American illusion of equal opportunity for all. Especially if you're a woman. Who is not skinny. Or of color. </rant>And Vanessa, Christina says you're beautiful, no matter what they say. So, to whom do the Vanessa votes go? I agree with Todd's assumption re her fan base (the bois didn't come thru!). I'm guessing that Kimberley Locke will pull a few and my prediction is that Kim will not be bottom three next week. Could the first four eliminated be women? It's certainly possible with Carmen, Kimbereley and Julia in the mix.

that girl was sooo annoying to listen to and soooo ugly to look at that I wanted to gouge out my own eyes and stuff them into my ears so I wouldn't have to do either. Good riddance. Also, has anyone else noticed how biased Simon is. Its so obvious that his number one concern is ratings for the show, and to that end, which contestants would do the best in terms of bringing up the ratings. That's why he picked Carman for the last wildcard, because she's good looking. And that's why he pumped her up for the voters after she performed, even though obviously she wasn't any better than anyone else that nigth. Also, notice how he only gives a hard time to the ones he doesn't think are good looking enough...Kimberly Locke, Clay, Vanessa. He said Josh needed to lose some weight, but he also said he did a great job cause he knows that Josh's back story is great for the show. He never gives Clay his props despite the fact that he is clearly the best singer in the competition. Back to the show, I was not at all surprised by the bottom three...the only person I expected to be in there as well was Charles who doesn't stack up against a real tough male group of singers. Kimberly Locke is annoying and did a so-so job with the song (I guess she has trouble if it ain't a Wizard of Oz song), Julia was stiff as a board during her performance, and Vanessa sang her song adequately, but definitely not spectacular.
IMO the ones that really stood out were Clay, Ruben, Cory, Trenyce, Josh and to a slightly lesser extent, Ricky and Kimberly Caldwell.

>He said >Josh needed to lose some >weight, You know you hit the bullseye. This is something that has been bothering me. He told Vanessa and now Josh to lose weight. But has he told that to Ruben or Kimberley? NOOOOOOO !!!!! Those two are so obviously the most overweight, with, especially, Ruben looking like is on the edge of a heart attack. Not to pick on Ruben, but those outfits he wears, make him look like some overgrown little boy. Yet, Simon praises him like he is the next Luthor Vandross (an big voiced, overweight man, who actually dresses like the pop star he is). You are so right Shakes, Simon is completely biased.

>>You are so right Shakes, Simon is completely biased. > >Not to defend him but isn't >he the only one with >a vested interest in the >outcome? Isn't he stuck signing >the winner to his label >and having to spend money >on them? There is no >way he could be impartial >under those circumstances....I agree that if I was in Simon's shoes I would be biased as well. But, I don't think his bias is really related to who the winner will be so much as which contestants will bring better ratings to the show itself. Also, whereas before I used to enjoy Simon's critiques of the contestants since he obviously knows what he is talking about, now I can predict what he is going to say before he even opens his mouth just based solely on which contestant is up there. Simon has lost all his legitimacy as a judge in my eyes since its soooo obvious now which people are going to get ripped on and also, his commments seem so forced now as if he's just trying to liven up the show for the ratings. Also, could the three judges be any more biased towards their own wildcard picks? Now Trenyce was great, but did Carman really deserve the glowing praise she got from Simon? I dont' think so. > >

35. "RE: Kimberly" |
Simon has picked on Kimberly before. In the earlier rounds. It was in one of those rounds that he told her that her personality was about a 2. I'm surprised that he hasn't said anything about Rueben. I love his voice but he is obviously suffering because of his weight. He looks sooo winded every time he performs or even walks on or off stage. Shakes is right, Simon doesn't give Clay any respect even though Clay has done a fantastic job of paying attention to what the Judges say. Look at where he was at the beginning and where he is now. His image certainly matches his talent now..... Gypsy

I agree, lilgypsy. Clay is listening to the judges, and taking their advice. He is improving every week, whether it is in his appearance, or in his giving his all every time. He even actually knew who Lamont Dozier was, and listened closely to his critique, too.

I agree Shakes about Josh. I think the guy is really good. They may try to milk the military thing, but that shouldn't take away from his talent. The guy looks good and sounds great.I am cheering Josh and Clay. Josh may have that Country sound going in his voice, but why is the R&B sound any better? The warbling adding notes stuff pisses me off , can these people just hold the note?
