carolynl 83 desperate attention whore postings DAW Level: "Hollywood Squares Square" 10-21-05, 09:55 AM (EST) "What's with the Sound Effects" I thought it was so mean of the producers to add the sound bites of kind of "clumpy, clumpy, ba dum de dum" to Jill when she was walking around toting all that baggage. It's bad enough that they are making her tote all that heavy Junk that is so unwieldy that it is adding to her personal bulk. I hope IV find another way to symbolize her baggage/weighty issues than they physical toting. To me the whole concept is sorta making a joke of her.   Top

I think they could leave the circus music out. I have to say though that Jill is so funny (cute) caring around all that luggage but I think IV could move onto something else now, I think its been long enough. She can see she is just struggling with them bags. I think she could find a different assignment for her cause she (Jill) is starting to give up on herself it seems.   Top

Alot of women on this show have had weight issues, but none have been quite as big as Jill. I think it is humiliating that she has to walk around and "huff & puff" dragging all that around.   Top

I watched yesterday and said out loud "what is with the circus music?" I also wanted to see if you thought they should confront the women about their smoking? I wish they would. It is such an obvious numbing agent and literal smoke screen to keep people away. For Jill, it is also another way that she piles on the baggage. It's another thing she has to carry around with her (the smell, the taste, the shortness of breathe...) What do you all think?????   Top

"RE: What's with the Sound Effects" First of all, they tried to get two of the girls to stop smoking in season one. They even hired a therapist to help them, but it didn't work. I guess the general thinking is that they have a lot on their plates right now and they need to smoke to cope. If I were Jill, I would say I want to go home. That would get Ilanya's attention. She could also say that she is having back aches, leg cramps, etc. I agree this has gone on too far and she is not physically able to do this. It is so hard for her that she is not getting the point of it because she doesn't even want to think about it.   Top

It's appears to me they really don't know what to do with Jill. As for the smoking--I doubt she or TJ use it as a shield but it's curious how they seem to catch Jill blowing it out her nose and mouth and I haven't caught that with TJ. Why is that? (I'm referring here to the scene where Jill looked almost like a house on fire) Methinks they're ridiculing Jill and I'm not liking it one bit nor am I amused. (Maybe they should play violin music when Jessica starts up with the tears??? Let's be fair.)   Top

I agree about Jessica, blow the horns and play the strings, get real, and I love that Rhonda finally has her dealing with her anger. Under her anger is guilt. Guilt that she didn't go with her mom on that plane, guilt that she didn't stop her mom from waiting to get the next week, guilt that she hates her grandmother for wanting her mother to visit. Jill can lose all the weight she wants, but if she continues to smoke she won't be any more healthy than with the weight piled on. This is the first time that it seems like at least half of the ladies in the house smoke. Also, they have never said it, but I have a feeling that the issue has not been addressed because Iyanla is Jill's coach and she may be a smoker herself. Have you ever noticed the gruff acoustics to IV's voice. I believe the only other time that smoking was singled out was when Sommer (Season #2) smoked and Rhonda was her coach not Iyanla.   Top

I quit smoking 14 years ago and had no idea what that was all about until I stopped. However, if they did that no one would ever graduate from the SOH, it would take too long to deal with their issues.....That would take a whole season for each woman to accomplish.   Top

If there are going to be certain "sounds" and things made toward an individual this is uncalled for and can damage a person's self image of themselves especially if they are having issues with weight. If this is going to be the case of making "fun" of people, then starting over is not what it is meant to be!!   Top

The circus music is ridiculous, and it makes it seem that they are mocking Jill. This excercise has gone on long enough. She GETS IT. She knows she's been carrying around a lot of "baggage" and realizes that it is interfering with her being able to move forward in her life. Jill is one of my least favorite houseguests, and even I say enough already! The woman is experiencing physical PAIN from this excercise. What has to happen? Does she have to have a heart attack or do permanent damage to her back before the life coaches back off? It seems to me that they are putting "ratings" ahead of her well being. Way over the line IMHO.   Top

I am not as heavy as Jill, but it would still be hard to carry all that junk around day after day. I don't even see how the excercise is helping her realize anything. I have high blood pressure (Jill probably does too) and if I had to carry all that around, I would probably have a stroke or heart attack. SO needs to consider that. The excercises should only be done if it's safe, and they should have a doctor check evaluate them before doing them. I also thought that the excercise where Jill had to carry herself and her "baggage" through the kiddie obstacle course was very degrading for an overweight person. She already is aware of her size, but it must have been even more humiliating for her to have to bounce around and huff and puff up and down. That reminded me of a circus too. After she did that, I thought IV would have told her she could end the excercise. There are many more issues that she has to deal with and I think they are getting off track. I liked it when she did her radio show better.   Top

Sommer would never have done that. Even when playing tug of war, Sommer was so worried about not being seen falling, that she would struggle to get up too fast, and then she looked like the very ugliness she was trying to deny. I agree the inflatable was humiliating, but Jill handled it with class and grace. It made me respect her even more.   Top

Now as for the sound effects, my tape ran out and I don't recall seeing that part before and I'm sure she's wasn't aware of it....what can she do about it now, but live with it...afterall, it's been taped and is airing now...the producers shouldn't do mean things to the HG's simply for ratings as it will surely take away from this wonderful show which should be about helping others not demeaning them...I can only go by your posts as I didn't witness this...but, shame on the producers if it's unflattering to the HG's. And to the issue of smoking...I know a lot of you are only thinking of the health of the HG's, but trying to overcome several addictions at one time can be self-defeating...sometimes you need to tackle them one at a time to completely break the habit for good and it's a known fact that when you're trying to give up smoking, you turn to food and Jill is already feeling deprived.. so, to add smoking to that list would cause her to give up on everything....maybe, when she has reached a significant amount of weight loss and she recognizes that her goals are obtainable, it will give her the strength to tackle the smoking issue...succeeding at one thing is better than not succeeding at anything. It adds a certain "cheesy" factor to the show, that I don't think they really intend, or maybe they do! Nonetheless, it devalues the show and the women. Did anyone notice the "stripper" music playing in the background during the picture/body language reading--for Christina? I taped that episode and played it again. It's so obvious when the music changes--first for Jill and then for Christina. Come on!!! What are the producers/editors thinking???   Top

I hope they do read the message boards because frankly im getting tired of the "reality t.v" show starting over is becoming it used to be a heartfelt all around good show that could help all of us in our daily lives. Now it seems like the issues the houseguests are having are minimized and the life coaches have become the stars. They were great last season but now im getting tired of hearing rhonda talk. where did the healing go why is jill still lugging her baggage from what i rember jennifer had her necklace on for a week tops and during that time she was working to eliminate some of the issues on it. She could have very well wore a necklace around her neck like the HG in season 2 (cant remember her name right now)-werent those tags representing "baggage" she was carrying around? And, then they had the sickening sound effects to boot. If I were Jill, if I were watching the show at home right now, and saw how the producers made fun of me, I would be mortified, and just praying that no one I knew saw it.   Top

I think the sound effects/music add lighthearted humor to an often tearjerking show. I don't think anything derogatory or mean-spirited is intended.   Top

I think some messages are so ingrained in us , from outside sources that sometimes we are desensitized and don't notice some things. That is just wrong. Even she did feel punished though, and she missed iyanla's point but it was bad for her health carrying that stuff anyway on an already bad back. Iyanla's creative..she could have thought of something different. That sorta endeared me to jill too. She was working the hardest at the time, and I didn't agree with it at all. I was expecting jill to have MAJOR problems with her tongue and keeping comments in control and she is not remotely the most difficult HG at all!! Shame on me for prejudging eh? frogfan72   Top
