"Songs This Viewer, At Least, Never Wants To Hear Again"
I think it's time to Just Say No to certain songs (and I'm sure the judges would approve). For example:

ANYTHING by Stevie Wonder
Wind Beneath My Wings
Black Velvet
Open Arms

I'll think of 37 others as soon as I post. Your turn!

I think "A Whole New World" has been butchered enough.

And "She Bangs" should be retired, since no one can sing it like Willy.

yeah, I am very sick of hearing " A Whole New World". I am so glad that the contestants could not sing "Fallen " or "At Last". I got so sick of those last year.

Ginger, you're killing me. I love Stevie Wonder. I want to hear someone take on Living for the City or Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing or basically anything from Innervisions.

Otherwise, I totally agree with Wind Beneath My Wings and Black Velvet.

NO MORE MARIAH CAREY, CELINE DION, OR WHITNEY HOUSTON.

They've been sung to death in all three AIs, and the sad thing is, almost none of the people singing them could hold a candle to these three ladies at ALL. (Personally, I don't care for the music of any of them, but that's not the point.)
It's not a good idea to cover the song of someone who sings the pants off of you, and I wish these folks would realize that, for the love of God.

See, I would have guessed that any fan of Stevie Wonder's would NOT want the man's oeuvre regurgitated in the general direction of Paula Abdul.
Responding to the "A Whole New World" post, God Yes. Delete that from the AI jukebox now.

EDITING TO ADD COMPLETE AGREEMENT WITH THE BAN ON CELINE, MARIAH, WHITNEY, et al. I would rather hear a Kate Smith medley than any more bad Whitney.

I, personally, am getting a little tired of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."

As I'm listening to random songs I just downloaded, I think someone should sing "Reproduction" from "Grease 2." (Horrible movie that I like)

I second the motion never to hear "Somewhere over the Rainbow" again on AI. Kimberly Locke oversung that song, (but sung it in tune and well.) and there are no KLo's in this group. I know there are more songs that I'm sick of hearing, but can't think of any right now...

Touch Me in the Morning (Too creepy)
Unchained Melody
Fallen

If we took out all the Celine/Mariah/Whitney/Boy Band songs, there would be little left.

I would have to add "Imagine". I am tired of hearing that song made over into some kind of pop monstrosity. It ruins it for me. Even last year (I can't remember whether it was Ruben or Clay -both of whom I loved- who sang it) they managed to butcher it. And Jennifer Hudson made me want to plug my ears.

I'm sitting here watching the show and I can't help but wonder why everyone's choosing the slow, boring songs. I want to hear more upbeat tunes! Let's get some 80's bouncy pop goin' on. I would've loved to hear Jon do some Tears for Fears or something.

I'm goin' to sleep here!

I will be very happy if I never have to hear another person sing "Proud Mary." They killed that song on Fame (which I only watched in bits and pieces because it was so painful). Hopefully "Proud Mary" won't make an appearance this season!

I'm also all for the 80's songs-- but the uptempo eighties songs all sound alike and don't seem to showcase their voices.

Didn't Clay sing that famous song from Family Ties last season-- the Mike and the Mechanics song? "What did you think... I would give at this moment, standing before me with tears in your eyes...I would get down on my knees, kiss the ground that you walk on, baby, if I could just hold you again..."

I'll take me some of that good stuff. And I'd love to see 99 Luft Baloons or some Cyndi Lauper. Ahh, the eighties....

Well, I understand Red Haired Guy considered "AntiChrist" by the Sex Pistols as a change-of-style gambit, but ultimately chose in favor of (booooooooooriiiiiiiiiiing) Billy Joel song instead.

What I'm really realizing is I don't really like pop. Not sure at this point what I want to hear these kids sing. The Gay Lumberjack Song, maybe...

30. "“Why Not Try Some Original Filipino Music (the ones written in English, of course)”"
LAST EDITED ON 03-10-04 AT 04:48 AM (EST)

If any of the remaining contestants know of any Pinoy friends/acquaintances, then perhaps they should ask about and consider learning OPM just to hear something that is generally not played-to-death-on-the-radio but has memorable lyrics and melodies at the same time. For a country that invented the Karaoke (YEEES – the Japanese merely bought the rights to manufacture the machines), has Metropop songwriting festivals (featuring new pop compositions) each year and whose singers are often described as the ‘most soulful in Asia’, may I therefore suggest competition-worthy songs by the following artists?

1. Jose Marie Chan: “Beautiful Girl”, etc. I can picture John “The Red” Stevens interpreting this one.
2. Martin Nievera: “You Are My Song”, “Be My Lady”. The latter song would again be perfect for John Stevens’ crooner image if only he can reach the higher notes and sang with more feeling.
3. Gary Valenciano: “Take Me Out of the Dark”
4. Joey Albert: “Tell Me”
5. Kuh Ledesma: “Till I Met You”

It would be more convenient to provide sample listening links for the uninitiated ears. But right now I don’t have the luxury of time to search …. (perhaps later?)

I just hope no-one sings “My Way” by Frank Sinatra! Here in the Philippines it’s the number one song a person is most likely to get hurt or killed by drunks when ‘sung’ in karaoke bars (so Red - don’t even THINK about it!!!) lol

AI episodes are aired approximately 2 weeks later on cable TV in South East Asia. No fun reading in the papers ahead of time who won. Bummer!
