LAST EDITED ON 12-11-03 AT 08:07 PM (EST)Burton braggin about "blindsiding" C & S, and Jon even tells Sandra directly that she's going home tomorrow...but surprise! He's lying. Darrah's next on the block for J and B. Day 34: Sandra's feeling low. She's planning to exact revenge: hiding tools, water canteens, masks, spears, etc. Um...petty, party of 1? J, B & L are harvesting mussels, and J proposes to get rid of D, but Lil doesn't like it. She's whining how her alliance is being flaky (um, hello? Lil? they're not trustworthy. Duh.)

Called "second chances"Tied to a post in a cage with ropes around hands and ankles. Untie yourself, and dig under a bamboo post and use the ropes to make an X to find a key. Then, make a pole to get a second key to let you out of the cage. You shoot down three plates with a slingshot, and the plate is attached to a bag of letters. Unscramble the letters to find the name of a famous pirate. Winner gets a night away from camp at Panama ruins. Lil is untied first, BUrton next, Jon third, S and D behind. All are digging. Burton and Lil are through first, everyone else is through and trying to figure out where the ropes should cross. Jon has his key first. Lil can't figure out coordinates (some Scoutmaster). Burton is done next. Sandra third, then Lil (finally!). Burton has the lead making the pole and Lil is talking to herself (Crazy? I was crazy once....). Burton's got the second key and is out of the cage, and quickly shatters his plates. The others are way behind, and Burton is unscrambling the letters. Burton wins (didn't hear the name of the pirate...Jolly something). Burton gets to take someone with him, and chooses Jon. (Wow...leave the three girls alone. Not too bright.)

Well that went down just like we figured. Burton made a bad call taking Jon with him. You'd think Jon would have instructed him against this. It would have made a lot more sense to take Sandra. She's been whining about wanting a reward and this could have been just the thing to sweeten her up.

It seems to me that the non-thinking contestants always mess this up. Showing arrogance at challenges or not making the politic moves sharing rewards. Sad to say but it seems to me that Jon is leading Burton. Last episode Burton didn't want to talk to Sandra & Christa because Jon wasn't there to coach him.

LAST EDITED ON 12-11-03 AT 08:25 PM (EST)Jon and Burton take a boat out, and have a mutual admiration society. Yuck. Jon thinks that they can step away from camp without worrying about the others strategically. Umm...foreshadowing, anyone? And THERE'S THE CAR! GMC Envoy, and Jiffy gives the keys to Burton. Burton loves it as an guy into outdoors type sports. Ick. Jon would have been pissed normally if he didn't win the car, but he's OK with Burton winning. How magnamous. Idiot. B and J drive through Panama City (which is gorgeous, IMO) and they go to ruins in the city. Nice set up. Makes a pretty good dinner date for B and J. Heh heh. Some odd food though (marshmellows?) The two stuff their face. "Good food and good company." (Maybe the former, but the latter.) B makes fun of the girls for not really doing anything as far as food or strategy. But back at camp, the three girls are talking strategy and they all recognize that all have gotten different promises. And Darrah speaks. Again! And they finally realize that THEY CAN'T TRUST THE GUYS. Duh. Again. Lil tells them that Darrah is next according to the guys, since she is pissed the guys are so easy to break their alliance. Where has she been the last 34 days? But Lil thinks that no matter what, she'll just talke 3rd, but the other two say that she has a better chance at the IC at F3 against them than against the guys. Lil wants to get Burton out first, and if B wins IC, then Jon. Once again: taking Jon to RC? Very dumb. Back at the ruins, B and J laugh off any chance that the girls could rise up against them. (Um guys? There are 3 of them and 2 of you. And you left them alone. Learn to count.) Jon says they have an intellectual advantage over the girls. Gag. Me. They propose various plots as to what to do, and they agree they can't trust Lil, and decide to approach Sandara as a backup. More trash talking of the girls, and they keep patting themselves on the back for their brilliance. Idiots. Yet another Jslice masterpiece! "Let's hope Osten doesn't smoke. Next morning:Shots of monkeys in trees, and the girls are walking up Lil rubbing her skin and whining about not sleeping. Lil doesn't know if it's menopause, but she's hurting and wants to rest her mind. (What mind?) Meanwhile Darrah and Sandra wonder if they can keep Lil past the next TC, since she's pretty nutso. For the nth time today, I say: Duh. Sandra decides she can't worry about the girls betraying her, since all she can focus on is getting the boys out. B and J head back to camp, and D and L vow to stick together as they go out to meet them and they bash Sandra. Pretty smart actually. They say that S is so mad, they wouldn't even talk to her, and A SHOT OF SANDRA SLEEPING (for the fantasy game players. ) Burton tries to talk to S, but she's being unresponsive. But Burton seems to smell a rat, and it looks like Jon doesn't either. Burton thinks that if he gives them enough time, he'll catch them in a lie. B grills L about what happened while they were gone, and Jon tries to grill Sandra. Jon promises S final three (on his grandma, AGAIN) if she tells them if they have a plan. They don't show if she tells him, but he promises to take out D and L first (and makes her swear on her kids, but she silently promises to take out the boys). Yet another Jslice masterpiece! At the IC, Jiffy takes the sword from Darrah. It's a walking the plank across water (5 in total). The planks are locked upright. To get their planks down, they have to fill tubes with water to get a ball with the key to float to the top. Once all five are unlocked, get across to grab your flag, and go back to the beginning. Everyone's pretty even to start, but D has an advantage because her fingers are small (can reach down farther to get the key). She has a pretty big lead, but D and S are not too far behind. Darrah has her second lock done and everyone else is still trying to fill their second tube. Darrah falls in, giving JOn a chance to catch up. Darrah has her third key pretty easily (her thin fingers are a plus here. Jiffy says "her weight loss comes in handy." Lil's finger were stuck for a second. Ha! Jon is close to Darrah and the others are way behind. Darrah drops her fourth plank, but Jon is still close. Darrah gets her last key, drops the plank, but Jon also has his last key. Darrah has the flag and she makes it back ahead of everyone. Three ICs in a row. Wow...this is almost Kelly or Colby worthy. Yet another Jslice masterpiece! "Let's hope Osten doesn't smoke. Darrah has no strategy and as they said in the episode she has been riding on people's coattails. She may have won immunity 3 times, but that doesn't mean she has played the game well. Jon on the other hand has lied, manipulated and schemed and therefore deserves the title of sole survivor. Darrah just sits there like a dummy with no strategy and no plan.

J grills her one more time, but she tells him to back off. J and B thinks that the girls have made a deal, and they call Lil a "disaster" and a "basketcase." They are just NOW realizing this? Burton is worried that L and D are too tight, and approaches S about voting for L and D. She says she'll vote for Lil, and Burton seems to believe her since he thinks she'll vote for whomever get her farther in the game. The boys cook fish, and talk to D about voting out Lil as well. They say they will vote for her. Jon says that the girls are foolish and don't even share a whole brain. Says they don't do anything for women's rights, and they are nothing more than followers. At one point I was rooting for Burton... up until the last episode and now, even though I'm not watching the show yet (I'm on the West Coast), Burton is pitiful! My hope is that Darrah wins and Sandra comes in second. However, it may very well be Darrah against Jon, whom she'd have a better chance winning against; especially when someway, somehow, they all find out he lied about his grandmother. BTW... what is with his flashing signs (I'm not sure if her's flashing the "V" for peace, or trying to flash gang-signs)? To me, Jon is not a likeable person. He's probably as much a d*ckhead in real life.

LAST EDITED ON 12-11-03 AT 08:54 PM (EST)Everyone walks in, and the jury comes in (girls looking good, too.) Seating order: D and S in the front, Burton Lil and Jon in the back. Darrah gracefully accepts praise for the IC win, but says she doesn't have energy and S agrees: they don't talk because she's too tired. JOn says he's impressed with the women because of their strength. Lil says she didn't think she'd last this long. Jon says he is always surprised by tribal councils, and Burton says that it's usually a blindside. Voting starts; Burton: Lil (He doesn't want to go against her at F2) Sandra: not shown Jon: Lil (another stupid wrestling thing, i think) Darrah and Lil: not shown Votes are revealed: Lil Lil Burton Burton (and now he looks worried) and Burton is gone! He takes it well though, but Jon looks a little shocked. "For the second time, the tribe has spoken." Sandra smiles, very pleased, but Jon is now smiling first. Jiffy calls them the "masters of the blindside." He notes that three of them are together, but no one is playing for third. Yet another Jslice masterpiece! "Let's hope Osten doesn't smoke. That was a disgusting display of emotion by the jury. These idiots would of done the same thing had they made it furthur in the game, you have to vote someone out, it's not like there is a choice so therefore they would of done the same thing (voting ppl out as rupert and his alliance were planning to)Burton was playing the game and he played it to the best of his ability, whereas those fools in the jury did not. I mean sure rupert fished but come on this is a game of mind games, and clearly he was not a good player in that aspect.

Burton's an ass and a hypocrite -- I have no idea what logic can be in his head that HE is just coming off a 3-2 Tribal Council in which he BETRAYED HIS ALLIANCE with Lill, then comes out on the short end of the draw and starts claiming how she is going to live with herself for betraying him... apparently the same way you were going to, you hypocrite!

Just waxing poetic here, but in some of the camera shots, Lill, Sandra, and Darrah kind of reminded me of the 3 Fates in Greek mythology.

I don't think so. I think that Burton was disliked because he was Burton and he played the game as he did, not because he is an Outcast. Everyone on that jury knows that Burton and Jon did them in. Rupert and Christa in particular have to blame Burton for their demises.

Rupert was the one that went balistic on Jon because Jon voted against him. Rupert was the one that went back to HIGH SCHOOL when he was voted out saying that he never fit in then and he still doesn't! RUPERT IS JUST AS MUCH A BABY AS ANY SURVIVOR EVER! From now on I will take this to bashers butt there is no way that these things should be said of Burton and not Rupert as well!

I disagree. I thought it was almost ingenius for Rupert to go off on Jon like he did. Funny too - since we viewers all knwo what a TRUE WEASEL Jon really is! As for his final words, well, I think they were kind of dumb and heat of the moment mis-spoken. I even said to my friends "well, what about the hopes and dreams of the people that he had gotten voted off?" In other words, I thought it was dumb for him to say, but other people I like say dumb things sometimes too!!! Now, Burton *did* lie to Lil, didn't he? For Lil to be "pure", she should have fessed up to Burton that she was going to vote for him. I don't see where it would have made a difference in the outcome, other than it wouldn't have been a "blindside." However, I think she can live with what she did. He was going and that was that - whether she was honest about it or not. Back to Burton not being honest with Lil: Who did he tell her they were voting for? Sandra? I don't remember him telling her anyone except D and that was before IC. Obviously, they didn't show B telling L they were going to vote for her, so he did break his promise to be "totally honest." And he told us last ep that you never know until TC the truth about how anybody is going to vote. He should have lived by his own words!

132. "Outcast Idea Worked Great--This Episode Proved It" |
Without the Outcast twist, this season probably would have been another boring pagong show--espcially if Morgan had managed to get the upper hand. The Outcast twist is what made it possible to have unaligned people who could go back and forth. Of course, having a lying schemer like Johnny did not hurt either, but this season has been great. This espisode was great--probably the best episode ever.I know a lot of people get really into the "integrity of the game" aspect of Survivor. If this were a professional sporting league, I would agree. But this is entertainment, and gosh darn it, I have been really entertained. The recent ratings tend to support this as well. Ever since the Outcast twist, I believe ratings have been up. Bringing back the Outcasts is no more unfair than the original twist in S3 as well as the obviously tilted challenges that MB uses all the time to try to help an underdog or favorite player. As long as MB does not directly affect the vote or "cheat" in the results of a competition, let the twists keep coming--as long as I remain entertained. Slight digression--people seem to be critical that the IC helped Darrah so much because she had small hands. This is true, but a real physical challenge would have been an easy victory for Burton, and I doubt anyone would have thought that unfair. As long as the nature of the challenges changes from event to event, I think it is fine that some challenges greatly favor one player. Back to my main point--the Outcasts made this the best season ever. Without the Outcasts, the only interesting thing the whole time would have been Rupert--and he got a bit boring to watch all the time after a while. This season rocks. The Outcast idea rocks. Even MB rocks (ok, I guess I shouldn't go that far). End of rant. Let the flames commence.

Are you kidding me? The outcast twist was a complete sham. A twist is fine, however, changing the basic rule of the game to me is a crock. For one thing, the outcasts are being kept along for the ride. So now I predict that Lil will be in the final 2. It seems for sure. Who would vote her? None of them like her, and she was booted once. The real game now exists amongst the other 3. It seems that the predictions here, spoilers or not, have been bang on. So...whether or not you think there would have been pagonging or not...it still sucks. I would guess the ratings are high this season for 2 reasons. Rupert and Jonny Fairplay. These are the 2 stars of the show. One everyone loves, and one everyone hates and neither will win it all. Sad I say. My biggest disappointment with Survivor is that it is not at all about surviving. If we were truly surviving, the weak would get booted and there would be no reward food challenges. A true winner would win challenges, and be a good provider. Sadly, the winner is often someone who keeps their mouths shut, wins infrequently or strategically and is not annoying. Abbahammer

If everyon dislikes Lill, why is that everyone still in the game (as opposed to viewers) keeps saying that they do not want to go up against her in the F2? Jon said it and Darrah agreed, Sandra said it, and tonight Burton has said it, too. Christa has said that after a day or two, no one cared about the Outcast twist and it was back to playing the game as usual. Maybe it will matter a whole lot at the FTC, but so far, all the indications are that none of the jurors are all that concerned about it, except maybe Ryan O.

MB can do whatever he wants in order to make the show more interesting and therefore more appealing to his consumers and advertisers. That's kind of the whole point of making a TV show...not honoring some supposed rules that you made up anyway. As one of those consumers I give MB my full and complete blessing to do whatever he wants to make the show more interesting. Try looking at it this way...what is more important to you, to be guaranteed that each season of Survivor is going to be fun and exciting or to be guaranteed that each season of Survivor would produce a true and deserved champion, but there is a good chance that you end up with a repeat of Thailand or Africa. Get it?

I wonder if MB and the Gang were the ones blindsided by Darrah this week. I have my suspicions that they would have expected everyone to fill to the red line, just like they have always done in other challenges and in other seasons. That Darrah thought to reach inside for the key, instead, was probably a surprise to everyone.

The >question is whether the advantage >is unfair, and I certainly >wouldn't call small hands an >unfair advantage Exactly. Nobody complains about it being an "unfair advantage" when there's a cerebral game that the brainiest player appears "favoured" to win, just like nobody fusses about strong men having an "unfair advantage" in physical competitions. As long as the competitions are sufficiently varied *across the entirety of the season* there is no unfairness. It would only be unfair if ALL the challenges were designed such that ONE human characteristic -- strength, or cleverness, or being a good listener, or stamina, or academic intelligence, or manual dexterity, or whatever else -- were the key to winning EVERY challenge. Only then could we realistically complain that the show was designed for one particular individual to win. Kudos to Darrah on her IC wins. As much as she's not my favourite, I will be comfortable with her taking the big money if that's what pans out, based on her performance in the last couple of weeks AND, of course, the fact that she had managed to keep herself in the game in order to start shining late in the day.

I'm soooo sick of hearing people cry about the Oucasts ruining the fairness of the game. People need to realize what Burn-it realized after Survivor 2....Survivor is NOT a game, it is NOT a test of survival abilities , it is NOT a contest.....IT IS A TV SHOW! Survivor is no different than Dallas, Days of Our Lives, or any other soap opera. The most important aspect of the show and the only aspect that matters is DRAMA, and anything that MB can do to increase that level of drama will be done no matter what the cost to the so-called integrity of the game. If you want to watch a sporting event/game switch your channel to ESPN. But, if you want to see a quality drama show with plenty of fighting, intrigue, over-acting, and stupidity then watch Survivor cause it brings all that and more.

anything that MB can do to increase that level of drama will be done no matter what the cost to the so-called integrity of the game.Amen to that. MB's job is to make it interesting, and he's definitely done that this season. As annoying as I find him (or at least his editing) personally, Jon may be on to something with connecting professional wrestling to survivor. The point for the producer in both is to maximize interest in the product, create villans to boo and heroes to cheer. Fairness isn't nearly as important as entertainment for both. Think of Thailand, which most people considered to be exceedingly boring and a bad season. Why? Other than Brian and to a lesser extent Clay and Penny, there was no one left in the game at the midway point who really evoked strong feelings one way or the other for most of the general public. That's the ultimate goal, and for Pearl Islands the reintroduction of Burton and Lil shook up the personalities and provided Jon a chance to thrive as a villan and Rupert to be a sacrificed hero to the eyes of most of the public. Whether we like it from a "fairness" standpoint, the twist did save this season from being Thailand redux. And for that, we should be thankful. Yet another Jslice masterpiece! ExI will now say goodnight...he's gotta finish his last outline tomorrow afternoon.
