For those of you who weren't with us before, this is how we do it: Anyone watching Episode 10 in the US and Canada at its first showing (9 PM Eastern, 8 PM Central) tonight, please post real-time updates of what is happening on the show. This thread should be the ONLY one we use on this board to discuss tonight's show until AFTER MIDNIGHT Eastern, 11 Central, 10 Mountain ... so that people on the West Coast have the chance to read the board before tonight's episode without knowing what happens, if they so choose. In other words, Mountain Time Zone people also should post in this thread while they watch the show and for an hour afterward. Anyone may post on this thread -- there is no official "update poster". And, to Ruthless and mark grace, our condolences on the Australia's elimination from the World Cup due to its 3-0 defeat by Uruguay in Montevideo. It's time for Oceania to get a dedicated slot in the tournament -- Harry Kewell deserves a shot at the big time. Enjoy the show, everyone!   Top

Festers. A bad taxi ride (caught in heavy traffic) cost them, since they were ahead up to that point. They were (needless to say) quite emotional upon finding out that they were last.   Top

After beating the Guidos at the eating gross stuff medley, Festers ran out of their cab at the EAST Gate of some park when they were supposed to be at the SOUTH Gate. Guidos stayed in the cab, consulted their handy dandy translation book to tell their driver South Gate in chinese, and got their own bad selves to the South Freakin Gate! All I can say is WAAAAAH! I will sorely miss my sweeties, the Festers. I love you guys! The show just won't be the same for me. A big tonight.   Top

"RE: Ouch" The order was as follows: 1) F&M 2) Lawyers 3) Guidos 4) Festers I don't remember all the details but briefly: all the teams had to get from Bangkok-->Phuket-->Beijing, where all of the events occurred. First one was a Detour: choose to win 5 points against a local boy ping pong champion (remember, table tennis is huge in China and they have racked up a lot of Olympic gold medals) *or* take a motorcycle, then transfer to a rickshaw to the next destination. Then the teams got a shopping list in Chinese -- 5 beetles, 2 chicken feet and 1 squid. Next stop was a restaurant (road block) -- one team member had to eat all of the items after were cooked. Finally, they had to race via taxi to Jintan Park, South Gate. Teams 1 and 2 chose the table tennis. It was really funny watching Brennan play because the kid just kept whizzing balls by him. Teams 3 and 4 chose the motorcycle/rickshaw route. They were literally neck and neck. The Festers even beat the Guidos in the eating episode. But bad traffic and a gamble by the Festers were their undoing. Kevin and Drew actually jumped out of their taxi and ran towards the park, trying to find the gate. At the end I was screaming at the TV for them to hurry! But by the time they found it, it was too late. The taller Fester (Kevin?) had tears coming out of his eyes at the end when Phil told him they were eliminated, it was very sad. I know I got something wrong but this was off the top of my head   Top

The Festers finished theirs! The Guido's should have been at the restraunt for at least a minute longer. That would have put the Festers cab in the lead and would have not forced the Festers to abandon their cab and head out on foot. There is definitely a different set of rules for the Guido's... I smell something fishy and it ain't the frikkin fried squid! Watch for another 'amazing' rules change to happen next week that puts the Guido's back into contention!   Top

The Guidos knew something about the rules that the Festers didn't know (or forgot), or 2. Cheating DOES pay if you're the Guidos, because the rules of TAR are generally not enforced. "RE: A serious charge" Well unless the rules are changed once again in favour of the Guidos there is no way they should win. They are way behind the other 2 teams. There is alot of steps to climb and running to do. Both the other teams are in much better shape than the Guidos. Only out & out cheating should ever put the Guidos in the lead. And the way CBS has already been tinkering with keeping the Guidos in this game I don't know if they would dare do anything else in the final to help them. They got what they wanted. They put the villains in the final. Now we can all boo them and watch them fail. I really think it is strange that everytime the Guidos were last there was a special circumstance that kept them in the game. Then they don't have to finish their food? Excuse me, but they should have been penalized. I was actually screaming at my TV. And I know I wasn't the only one that wanted to slap them silly when the Guidos were leaping up and down in jubilation. Boo Hiss!   Top

As Emily would say "if the clue says, eat all the chicken, you eat all the chicken". I sure hope Guido doesn't win. As Australia is a couple of weeks behind, I won't bother watching anymore if Guido wins. That's why I didn't watch the last episode of Survivor 1, because I had read on the internet that Richard Hatch won, and he was the one I hated right from the beginning. And it wasn't hate him because he is gay, either, it was hate him because he is obnoxious. I'm not a gay basher/hater. I have no feelings either way about Brandon in Survivor 3. If he wins, I certainly wouldn't be angry about it like I was about Richard winning. If they are obnoxious I will hate them, and some of the straight couples on TAR annoyed me with their obnoxiousness as well - especially Lenny and Karyn and Paul and Amie. I wasn't the least bit sorry to see them go.   Top

When you looked at the people on the show, you would have picked him to be one of the first eliminated. But he came in with a strategy, picked up a group of misfits (including an ornery old man and a female truck driver) and reduced everyone else, especially the "alpha female" Gretchen and the flaky rich kid Greg, to clueless also-rans. By contrast, the Guidos are just a pain in the butt.   Top

Festers got out of the eating challenge first, but they got their taxi to drop them off in the general vicinity of the pit stop at a park, and then ran around to find the south gate. The Guidos translated the word "south" and their taxi driver drove them straight to the gate - so they arrived there before the Festers. So the Guidos planning skills triumphed over the Festers more instinctual approach. Drew and Kevin cried a few tears ((((( but tried to maintain a positive attitude...   Top

"RE: OFFICIAL *E11* East Coast Spoiler/Update Thread" Given the situation, I can't blame Drew and Kevin for bolting from the traffic-locked cab when they saw the entrance to the park. They gambled, they lost. They played well, with heart, and with good humor the whole way. They were undoubtably the most entertaining team in the race, and will be missed the next two weeks. I certainly enjoyed their delay tactic in the supermarket, and Bill's frustration. Team Guido managed to stay in the game by overcoming the language barrier, and thus they deserve to stay. I could have done without the Winston Churchill quotes at the end. And, it should be noted, they are apparently a day behind the leaders, with no indication they will start equal for the final leg. Go, Frank and Margarita!   Top

LAST EDITED ON 11-28-01 AT 10:59 PM (EST) Can't be sure but it looked pretty big. There was a back up at the airport and it looked like they made up some of the lost time. R/B was estimating that they would lose about 8 hours of thier 17 hour lead. All teams finished up in daylight. The first 1/2 hour was all r/b and f/m with the second 1/2 hour the Festers and Guido. Edited to add: I went back and looked at the tape quickly. R/B and F/M finished up one day during daylight (afternoon?) and the other team did not finish until the next day probably morning. That means a big lead still exists. But a lot of that will be eaten up by R/B and F/M having to leave in the middle of the night. Right now I'd guess about 15 hours.   Top

I'm just guessing, too, but it looked like F&M and the Lawyers finished early afternoon one day (Margarita said "at least I got lunch" when she ate that stuff). The other two finsihed the morning of the next day (the market opened at 6:30 am). So, conceivably the first two arrived around 1pm and the Guidos at, say, 10am the next day, so 21 hours. But it could be much less.   Top

Maybe that could be their show on UPN, they could travel around on a motorcycle/sidecar helping people and cracking wise. All the humor of this show has just been sucked out of it. Can you imagine what Drew would have said to Kevin during the ping pong game if he'd lost 15 points to one to a seven year old? Argh.   Top

"Times in this Episode" 6:03am R&B leave Pai Plong beach 6:15am F&M leave Pai Plong beach 8:20am R&B arrive at Phuket airport (just missing 8:30am flight to Bangkok) F&M arrive at Phuket airport (no time) 11:35am Festers arrive at Pai Plong beach 12:15pm R&B, F&M arrive in Bangkok 11:35pm Festers leave Pai Plong beach 1:25am R&B and F&M leave Bangkok for Beijing 1:30am Guidos leave Pai Plong beach 3:48am Guidos arrive at Phuket airport (Festers are already there) 7:00am R&B and F&M arrive in Beijing; go straight to Top Pavilion in Jin Jiang park ~8:00am Festers and Guidos leave for Bangkok F&M arrive for ping-pong first;R&B second (no time) F&M shop at market first; R&B arrive after them (no time) F&M arrive at eating contest a few minutes before R&B (R&B arrive while F&M are waiting for food to cook) (no time) F&M arrive at Pit Stop first; R&B arrive after them (no time - still daylight - I'd guess maybe still morning or early afternoon) 11:20am Guidos and Festers fly to Beijing (a guess based on R&B's earlier comments about flight times) 4:30pm Guidos and Festers arrive in Beijing 4:45pm Guidos and Festers looking for taxis at Beijing airport Festers arrive first at Jin Jiang park; Guidos arrive second Both Festers and Guidos choose transportation detour Festers get on bus first, Guidos second Festers get on motorcycle first; Guidos second Festers arrive first at rickshaws but Guidos are right behind them. By this time it is getting dark. Guidos' rickshaw actually leaves first! Festers pass them, then fall behind. Guidos arrive first - Festers shortly after them - but all must wait until market opens next day. They head off to hotels. At some point during the night, R&B and F&M would finish their 12-hour pit stop and head off to next challenge. 6:00 am Guidos and Festers are making their way to market. We can assume F&M and R&B are making their way to Great Wall of China. 6:30am market opens - Festers and Guidos do shopping, head to place to have food cooked. Festers and Guidos arrive at food cooking place at same time; food cooked at same time. Festers (Drew) finishes eating first; Festers head off to Pit Stop with a lead over Guidos. You know the rest - they make their way to Tiantan park - Guidos make it to the South Gate first, far enough ahead that they are no longer standing there when the Festers arrive, in last place. So....I think it's still morning when the Guidos arrive at the Pit Stop. They won't be able to head off to the Great Wall of China until 12 hours later - i.e. late at night, and climb it the next morning. Meanwhile F&M and R&B would have arrived at Great Wall in the morning (while Festers and Guidos were finishing their challenges) and would probably in the afternoon be trying to catch a flight heading towards Alaska (while Guidos were at the Pit Stop). Guidos won't arrive at Great Wall until the following morning, and then catch the flight to Alaska. So the Guidos should be a full 24 hours behind F&M and R&B. Don't see how they can catch up! Farewell Festers, you'll be missed. Go F&M!! (I hope the clip of Margarita saying "there's no way we can lose" isn't the death knell for any hope of them actually achieving that)   Top

"RE: Times in this Episode" The time difference between the top two teams and the Guidos should be just about as huge as it was at the beginning of tonight's ep. I think if they do many airports the Guidos have real shot. If few airports then they are destined for third place. As for the top two teams, the more physical the challenges, the bigger advantage that R&B have. I think they just beat out Crazy Man and No Salt at the end. AND finally, everyone should not cry for the Festers, they will probably get a sitcom with UPN or something, and that is where the money is. Great episode, lived up to the hype and expectations, even if the final elimination was not what a lot of you wanted.   Top
