the "characters" we watch in survivor are the result of careful editing on the part of MB and crew (editing, of course, with the knowledge of how the game has played out 'til the end). it seems to me that oftentimes, a tell-tale sign that the curtain is about to fall on someone is that their "character" becomes increasingly negative -- critical of others, critical of the game, critical of the weather, critical of the challenges, critical of themselves, and so on. even when someone has a cheery disposition at the outset and is a "good guy" -- someone fans can easily root for -- they are presented in a negative light shortly before their torch is snuffed. (which, by extension, i suppose, let's us all feel better about their exit.)
does this hold true for this season? For example,
NICOLE was critical (of tijuana) from the get-go. no-one, i'd imagine, was surprised to see her go first.
RYAN S too, in both the first and second episodes, was pretty negative about morgan's preparations on the island and about their assessments of him.
BURTON proposed the idea of throwing the challenge, so as to get rid of someone
TRISH was edited to show negative comments about rupert (which just might be the ultimate sin, considering how much MB and crew love rupert!) two weeks running. again, despite the shocked look on jon's face,
I'd love to hear thoughts on how this may (or may not) play out with remaining (and golly, resurrected) tribe members.
Rupert has been getting increasingly grumbly. Osten was making threats at a pelican (my apologies in advance for starting a thread with more pelican discussion!!). Jon, on the other hand, clearly BEGAN in the negative column, and based on JP (?) interview comments, will be "redeemed" somewhat (not sure what he could possibly do to be redeemed, but we'll see)
thoughts?
