"Betting Suspended" |
LAST EDITED ON 09-18-03 AT 11:36 AM (EST)found this at Fever: BetWWTS.com, a leading offshore gaming company for over 10 years, has suspended betting on the latest installment of "Survivor" before the first episode will air this evening. Company suspicions arose when BetWWTS.com received a number of wagers all placed on the same contestant from newly opened accounts originating from Vancouver, British Columbia. Company officials indicated that in the past, betting on reality shows like "Survivor" is extremely light before the first episode airs, but on this occasion, BetWWTS.com has seen a deluge of bets on the show. Of all of the money wagered on "Survivor" to date, nearly 95% originated from new accounts in the Vancouver area and all was placed on the same castaway -- leaving the company with a liability in excess of $30,000 on one contestant. Management investigated the origin of the betting yesterday and decided the risk was too great to continue offering "Survivor" betting. "In the past few days we have received an abnormally high amount of maximum limit wagers on the same contestant from new customers in the Vancouver area, which has forced us to suspend betting on "Survivor"," said Simon Noble, CEO of BetWWTS.com. "Whether this is a case of one of the contestants or someone involved with the show accidentally exposing the identity of one of the two finalists, or simply the by-product of rumor, it is still a highly unusual betting pattern and we felt we must react accordingly." EDIT: Odds still up on BoDog.

LAST EDITED ON 09-18-03 AT 04:07 PM (EST)>erikman, do you have a source for them betting on Darrah? >Some brand new poster alleged that that Sandra is the Odds on >Favorite The source seems to be the article itself. The article states that 95% of the betting is from new accounts opened from Vancouver, BC. Sandra lives in Fort Lewis, Washington, which is about three hours away from Vancouver. The relevant quotes from the article are below: "Of all of the money wagered on "Survivor" to date, nearly 95% originated from new accounts in the Vancouver area and all was placed on the same castaway..." and "In November 2002, BetWWTS.com halted betting on "The Bachelor" when it was discovered that a number of new accounts originating from Springfield, Missouri -- hometown of bachelor Aaron Buerge -- had all wagered on eventual winning bachelorette, Helene." Also, Nicole grew up in Bellevue, WA which is only about two hours away from Vancouver, but it's doubtful that 95% of the people would be voting for her to win based on the spoilers pointing to her boot this week. --edited to specify it's Vancouver in BC and not WA

Since we can't really know how the jury votes go, you could also take the conservative approach and hedge your bets...BoDog Odds to win: Trish 5-1 Lillian 8-1 Darrah 10-1 Bet the $100 maximum on each of the likely "older women" who come back into the game and end up in the final 2, in additon to Darrah, just in case Darrah loses the jury vote. So, invest $300 in 3 bets on Trish(5-1), Lillian(8-1) and Darrah(10-1) worst case you net $200, best case $700. Looks like a good investment to me! Krautboy

8. "Associated Press story... Sandra's the mole" |
This moved on the AP wire at 4:18 p.m. Thursday Sept. 18. BetWWSS says the bets were placed on someon who lives close to Vancouver. That's Sandra.********************* Could there be a mole leaking the winner of CBS’ “Survivor”? By DAVID BAUDER AP Television Writer NEW YORK (AP) — An offshore bookie who takes wagers on the outcome of CBS’ “Survivor” decided not to take bets on Thursday, suspicious that someone who knows the winner is spreading inside information. The reality series, which premiered its seventh edition from Pearl Island on Thursday, has been relatively free of security problems despite an Internet cottage industry in guessing winners and losers. The Antigua-based company, BetWWTS.com, has taken bets from as many as 1,000 people for past editions of “Survivor,” consistently television’s most popular reality game. The company rarely does any action with “Survivor” before the show gets on the air. Betting usually heats up after the show has been on for at least a month and viewers get to know the characters, said Simon Noble, the company’s CEO. “If we get five bets (before the game), I’d be stunned,” Noble said. “Nobody can relate to any of the contestants or develop a strong opinion.” Yet in the past few days, the company took more than 15 bets on the same contestant, all from people who lived near each other in Vancouver, he said. The company shut the game down. Noble wouldn’t identify the contestant they were betting on, but said it was a woman who lives near Vancouver. The CBS Web site identifies one contestant, Sandra Diaz-Twine, as living in Fort Lewis, Wash. She’s a 29-year-old U.S. Army veteran who now works as an office assistant. She’s married with two children. On the Web site, Diaz-Twine says she believes she’s a contender to win “Survivor” because of her ability to improvise and knowledge of hunting. CBS spokesman Chris Ender pointed out that although filming for the “Pearl Island” game is complete, the results are sealed. “The truth is, only (“Survivor” executive producer) Mark Burnett and a couple of CBS executives know who won,” he said. “Certainly, Mr. Burnett doesn’t need the money you could win from an offshore bookmaker.” As for whether someone is trying to profit on inside information, Ender said, “we’ll know for sure in December.” “Everyone in America likes to speculate on who won ‘Survivor,’” he said. “It’s become sort of a pop culture sport.” Twice before the bookmaker has had to suspend betting on a reality game. Once, for ABC’s “The Bachelor,” it received a large number of bets from the bachelor’s hometown on the woman he eventually chose as the winner. For the Amazon edition of “Survivor” last spring, the company suspended betting a month before the televised finale because of a concentration of wagers on two contestants, including the eventual winner, 21-year-old swimsuit model Jenna Morasca. Another offshore bookmaker, BoDog.com, suspended betting last spring after allegedly finding at least two CBS employees betting on the show’s outcome.

It all seems a little too easy to me. Everyone is so sure at this point that Darrah wins. Lillian could win for that matter. Fool me once- it won't be the first time. Fool me twice- it won't be the last time. Why would anyone take bets on an event that has already happened anyway?

LAST EDITED ON 09-19-03 AT 02:03 PM (EST)I think Ayak's thought on this really deserves some more attention: http://community.realitytvworld.com/boards/DCForumID2/4040.shtml#7 The idea that it's Sandra because "she lives only a few hours from Vancouver" is really weak IMHO and is sloppy reporting by the mainstream media. Think about it -- how many people to you personally know 3 hours (and a whole other country) from where you live? And how many of them would appanretly be so confident that you won that they'd each drop (according to one report I read) a $10,000 bet on you? (the latest report I read said the site claimed 14-15 people had each bet $10,000 on the person.) The scenario seems quite unlikely... I'm with AK on this one, if there's a leak, it's not the hypothetical 14-15 friends/family that live three hours from Sandra -- it's a leak in the television production facilities in Vancouver... folks who might actually have seen what was apparently a live on-site final jury vote (or know someone who personally did see it.) Let me put it this way... if the bets were coming from LA, would we still assume Christa was the winner? -SB

His account has been credited with all the bet monies and has been closed. I asked him what he knew....he only would say that he has never bet anything over $100.00 before on anything and I could figure out why he bet so much money. I asked him if he knew the contestant personaly, he said no but he knew her significant other. "I love sardines" King Oscar would like to have coffee with Schick.

Well, who is the contestant whose significant other he knows?Who did he bet on? ********** It could be TV production folks, and I would not assume Christa if the bets were placed in LA. But the online casino guy did tell the AP that the questionable bets were placed on someone who lives close to Vancouver. Its also likely that bets were placed using erroneous info. Maybe Sandra hinted to people that she did well on the show, and people believe she is the winner. She's stuck with not being able to tell them to avoid betting her to win. These reality show contestants need a reality check!

Just so you all should know, no online site in the world would take a bet for more than 500-1000.00 USD on a Survivor prop. The max bet I found anywhere was for 500.00 at betWWTS ( I went to nearly 50 different sites) I even found a site (Caribsports.com) whos max wager was only 50.00. I bet 150.00 on Sandra and Lillian (2 different accounts) at Intertops but when they saw that my address was Vancouver, the cancellled them last Friday morning. what a bunch of asses!! BetWWTS has agreed to honor all bets as I received a personal email from their head bookmanager despite that press release they issued. Their max was for 500.00 but Sandra was at 15/1 and Lillian only 6/1. So Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo SANDRA!!

Sandra had made no enemies on the show. >Well, I guess this "spoiler" is all shot to hell. Last night Sandra made enemies of the Morgan tribe (if any of them make the jury), and soon makes an enemy of Jon. And it seems highly unlikely that Lillian's significant other is telling folks that Lill is one of the finalists, but is sure she doesn't win. And the $10,000 bets are way off the chart. 17. "Osten also named" |
This came across the newswire at 8:23 EDT Friday ST JOHNS, Antigua, Sept. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Online sports book Intertops.com will continue to keep its betting offers open on the hit CBS reality TV show ’Survivor: Pearl Islands’ despite rumors stating the identity of one of the two finalists. An abnormally high amount of betting from the Vancouver area on both Osten and Sandra has prompted some sports books to suspend all betting on the seventh in the series of the CBS reality TV show. Intertops.com was the first online sports book to offer betting on reality TV, with the very first Survivor show, and there was a similar situation with Survivor: Amazon in April 2003 when CBS employees were cited as the source of insider knowledge. Intertops.com has seen this as an opportunity rather than a threat by offering even more action on the show. “There has been some heavy action on Osten and Sandra which is why we have created some exciting new bet offers around these two and an option on who will survive if they both do get voted off or make it indeed to the very final.“ said intertops.com Chief Bet manager Michael Maerz. “Scandal seems to be the order of the day for this series, but this makes it all the more interesting for viewers and customers alike. Reality TV betting has proved so popular with our customers we will keep offering them exactly the action they want. That’s why our book will remain wide open on the outcome of Survivor VII.“ he said. These reality show contestants need a reality check!

LAST EDITED ON 09-20-03 AT 12:47 PM (EST)Ayak's article present's the most recent information on the betting spoiler: http://www.realitytvworld.com/index/articles/story.php?s=1780 This is great news for the spoiling community and for MB, because it muddies up the spoiling waters for the F2...we're back to sorting out the F6, which will keep us busy up until the finale. MB is smiling... We went from being pretty sure the F2 were two women, one older who returned to the game (Trish or Lillian) and a younger woman (Darrah). With Osten finishinfg F3 and Tijuana a F4 "contender (F4 or F5). The betting spoiler suggests that Osten and Sandra are the F2, which raises all kinds of questions: Is Sandra really the F2 "younger woman"? Did the local source not understand the game and mistake F3 for F2? Were Tijuana and Sandra mistaken for each other because they are both dark complected? The games back on and we're back to sorting out the Final 6! We now have reports that place Tijuana, Trish, Sandra, Osten, Lillian and Darrah somewhere in the F6 with conflicting information about the F2! This is going to be fun! Krautboy

Snewser seemed pretty sure of his info, but -- Perhaps the locals who provided the older woman/younger woman details were describing the last two jury members to arrive at Isla Perico? If the F2 did not go to Isla Perico after the final vote, some locals who saw all the other contestants may never have seen them, and may have been unaware that anyone was left after the last two jurors arrived. Time will help us figure this all out, I hope.

"Sandra hadn't made any enemies."I don't know, Ryan did say that he never really talked to Sandra, but didn't like her because of the whole tarp issue when Drake won the RC. Also, Jon and her seem to always be fighting - unless that's a ruse, but given the TC message she left Jon, I think it was a genuine dislike. And Lil is very self-efacing. Thinks she's a bi*tch and a scumbages, so I could see her not really able to know who is her friend. And that being said, I really hope its Sandra at the end. And hope I don't dislike her at the end because of things she might have done to get there.

This at Sucks:Snewser Registered User Posts: 420 (11/23/03 11:06 pm) Re: Betting suspended at one web site -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The motives don't really make sense to me. The betting spoiler last season, which turned out to be correct, was irregular betting patterns based on both Matt and Jenna. They didn't know the winner because of the lock box. The company claimed they identified the betters as CBS employees. They could have been people who read Chillone's vague info as well, took a deep breath, and placed their bets. But at any rate, it turned out to be true. So why would someone place huge bets on Sandra? -Either the jurors talk among themselves, and they essentially know who had the votes. Word got around. -Or an insider "knew" the winner, because having been there without the disadvantage of selective editing, it was "obvious" that Sandra would have won. The insider then bet, or told people who trusted the insider. -Or whoever placed the bets think they know who won based on who knows what, but it is actually wrong. -Or the report/quote in the AP article is wrong. -Or it's a publicity stunt. -Or the bet really wasn't on Sandra, it was on someone else for another reason and the statement was misinterpreted or the betting site misrepresented the info. The possibilities are endless. I guess it's entirely possible Sandra is the winner. Mr411 for example had every boot from Lillian through Rupert, and seemed to be very keen on a Sandra win. Nevertheless, the winner has been pretty much narrowed down from the beginning to either Darrah or Sandra with Lill coming in second (or could she win?). I guess we will only be shocked now if a man ends up winning. Edited by: Snewser at: 11/23/03 11:09 pm --------------------------------------------------------------- And this: Quote: It was reported that there has been extremely high amount of betting in the Vancouver area on both Osten and Sandra. This caused concerns and forced some sportsbooks to suspend bets on the seventh in the series of the TV reality show. Snewser: Since we know Osten is bogus, maybe all the soup is spoiled. ------------------------------------------------------------- One more thing: Snewser Registered User Posts: 423 (11/24/03 1:55 am) Intertops seems not to be taking bets on Sandra now. intertops.com/sportsbook/...fno=262434 Survivor: Pearl Islands: Who will survive without Sandra? Closing Date: Nov 26, 2003 21:00 GMT -4 Bet Options Available Option Win Odds Lillian 10/11 Burton 5/4 Darrah 6/1 Tijuana 10/1 Jon 12/1 Christa 15/1 So it definately looks like there's a lot of action on Sandra to the point they stopped taking bets, and if Darrah is indeed the winner, you could make some decent money. 6/1 huh? --------------------------------------------------------------- Wow. I have never seen Snewser so forthcoming in his posts at Sucks.
