"State of the Spoiling, Episode One" |
State of the Spoiling, Episode OneAvast me hearties and welcome to another season of Survivor. The Evil Pirate Mark Burnett (EPMB) and his first mate Jiffy think they have surprises planned for us. Maybe they do, however, our adventure is to ruin these scurvy knaves' shockers before they are revealed. Let's see what we know so far. The Crews Drake:
Rupert Boneham, a mentor for troubled teens, is 39 and hails from Indianapolis, IN. Shawn Cohen, who turns 29 on Sept. 20, works in advertising sales and lives in New York, NY.
Jon Dalton, an art consultant, hails from Danville, VA and is 29 years old.
Sandra Diaz-Twine, 29, an office assistant, is from Fort Lewis, WA.
Christa Hastie is a 24-year-old computer programmer from Los Angeles.
Trish Dunn, a 42-year-old sales executive, is from Annapolis, MD.
Burton Roberts is a 31-year-old marketing executive from San Francisco.
Michele Tesauro, from Pittstown, NJ, is a 22-year-old student. Morgan:
Tijuana Bradley, 27, is from St. Louis, MO, and works in pharmaceutical sales Nicole Delma, who turns 26 on Sept. 19, is a massage therapist from Hermosa Beach, CA.
Darrah Johnston is a 22-year-old mortician who lives in Liberty, MS.
Lillian Morris, 51, is a scout troop leader who lives in Cincinnati, OH.
Ryan Opray, an electrician, is 31 and lives in Los Gatos, CA.
Andrew Savage is a 40-year-old attorney and lives in Chicago.
Ryan Shoulders, hailing from Clarksville, TN, is a 23-year-old produce clerk.
Osten Taylor, 27, is an equity trade manager from Boston.
Public Knowledge The title for the first episode is Beg, Barter, Steal. Shiver me timbers! How'd you like to be invited to a fancy party aboard a schooner, only to be ordered shortly after arriving to walk the plank while wearing your finest duds? Well, that's what happens to the latest 16 castaways as the seventh season gets under way on the Pearl Islands off the coast of Panama. Executive producer Mark Burnett describes the players' reactions to the devilish twist he devised as “a combination of shock, horror and laughter.” After the deep-sea plunge, the two tribes, Morgan and Drake, swim to a village to buy supplies before traveling to their respective camps. The TV Guide Preview gives us a good bit of insight into the first episode (including the murder of a pelican). We have tons of video captures: VIDCAPS: 8/28 Access Hollywood segment VIDCAPS: 8/28 Extra TV segment VIDCAPS: 8/28 Inside Edition segment Early Show "Camp Life" VIDCAPS Early Show Challenge/Arrival vidcaps VIDCAPS: 8/28 Inside Edition segment – Part II VIDCAPS: 8/28 Extra TV segment – Part II VIDCAPS: 8/28 Entertainment Tonight segment VIDCAPS: "Only The Clothes On Their Backs" Commercial Of special note is what may be the immunity idol

Short Term Spoilers Captain Krautboy has some excellent analysis of the Episode 1 Immunity Challenge. Suffice it to say, evidence points to a Drake win, sending Morgan to TC. We have reason to believe (due to the Accidental Tourist and Snewser's Scorecard among other sources) that Nicole may be the first bootee. The good Captain K further explores "What leads to Nicole's demise?" The conclusion is that she takes the "I'm pretty" approach and does not contribute much. Lastly, Captain K and crew reflect on what we should be looking for in Episode 1, based on the first episode of previous seasons. Long Term Spoilers Thanks to the Accidental Tourist, Wezzie and Quartzeye, and Snewser (among others), we have a good idea about who gets booted early (Nicole, Ryan S, Andrew, Jon, Rupert, and Sandra), who stays for a while, and who makes it toward the end (Christa, Tijuana, Burton, Osten, Trish, Lillian, and Darrah). It also appears that part of the twist of this season is that a Survivor contestant who has been voted out will be "raised from the dead" and get to come back into the game. The reasons for this resurrection are explored in this thread. First mate Jiffy has said that this season will include, "A big lie" that will lead to "regret". What that means is discussed here as well as here. I am sure I have missed a lot, since there is always a good deal of spoiling/speculation that goes on before the first episode. If you, my dear mates, come across things I have missed, please add them to this thread. Overall, I am very optimistic about this season. I believe the first episode is as spoiled as could be expected. If you are new to this board or this forum please read the Spoiler Forum Guidelines. This Forum has some specific customs and this thread will provide you with good information on how to maintain our traditions. SOTS is provided by SurvivorBlows.com as a service to our readers. The purpose of this post is to consolidate the threads in the Spoiler Forum pertaining to this week's episode. Feel free to reply to this post if you feel that a theory you support was not adequately represented in this message... Please use this thread for unified discussion of all topics as we approach the next episode. SigPic by PM, Inc, © 2003 Arggh!

Excellent job, S-Bear! You've really laid it out neatly and saved me a ton of work in organizing thoughts on who might be staying a while and who might be the early boots.I'll be bookmarking this thread to use as a reference for some time even after a few episodes have gone by. Thanks for doing this! Click here to rank all 96 Survivors!
Heidi: My biggest assets to the tribe are my athletic skills and my intelligence. I've lost one of them. Jiffy: Which one?

LAST EDITED ON 09-17-03 AT 07:29 PM (EST)Can you please tell me what evdence you have that Sandra will be booted early? I have only seen evidence supporting her success in the game. It now seems that Sandra is the Odds on Favorite at Intertops.com: http://www.intertops.com/sportsbook/cgi-win-2/itbframe.exe?qbtitle=AF;frameref=itbet.exe?scrncd=BO;sprtyp=CN Books as big as Intertops.com only change their odds from an opeing of 10/1 to what is now 4.5/1 when a large amount of money comes in on a particular castaway. Just thought I'd put that out there.

It is based solely on Snewser's Scorecard. Generally, Snewser has inside information and if he makes a comment like, "Chirp: Hopefully she'll stick around long enough to provide some snarky drama," it is because he knows something. SurvivaBear- "Arrgh!"

Survivorbear, if Snewser really had inside info, don't you think all the books out there would have Darrah as the Odds on Favorite? I think he/she may be slightly misinformed if that is the case. My sources tell me that 100's of dollars (seems 100.00 is the max bet) have come in fast and furious from certain clients whom have successully picked Jenna/Matt, Brian and Vecepia in the last 3 Survivors. No, these are not CBS employees ut it is beleived that they have some type of connection/relationship to the network or the producition crew. I am aware of 2 online books that have removed Surivivor from their betting options as it has become too difficult to balance action and bookmanagers are already wondering if something is up. Lets face it, this show is taped and there are legitimate insiders out there that know who the winner is (or atleast the finalists). Strong sources are pointing towards Sandra. Maybe you will reconsider this after the merge when Sandra is still around. Just my 10 cents.
