You know, a car like that (a hybrid) could be a good deal for you.Putting aside questions involving price, size, comfort, maintenance expense (batteries) and aesthetics which you would have to judge for yourself, it could be a decent option for an everyday drive to work car. Depending on how much local and long distance driving you do, I can see it saving you upwards of 80% of your transportation related gasoline costs.
If you recharge at home some of that savings will be spent on the home electric bill, but you could bring a cord to work and can plug into a company outlet.
Or, if you can park in the open, take a solar charger with you to work (is such a thing available?). You would need to invest in a heavy duty alloy steel lock and chain.
It would have to be a hybrid, I think, to allow for cloudy days. But hey, you live in LA, right?
