There's a Bill Veeck line which I'd like to paraphrase here, but I'm going to wait until I clear front page spoiler space as I don't exactly have intentions towards being polite. And there we go.
'Holy @#$%, all the bigots, repressives, haters, Religious Reich members, and social regressors with power are gathered in one place for the next few days. The citizenry is screwed for the next four years.'
I know, I know -- I'm being silly. No one in the current party configuration ever counted me among the citizenry in the first place... at least, no one who'll be allowed to speak...
Sorry kids, but to me, this is Hatefest '12: The Economy Will Fix Itself When We Finish Pleasing God By Oppressing The Sinners. Judge lest ye be thrown out for not judging. I'm expecting anti-gay speeches, anti-equality, anti-immigration, anti-any-religion-that-isn't-Christianity-and-even-then-only-the-really-strict-parts, anti-female, anti-rights, and quite possibly anti-aliens because if they land and can't prove they brought their own crosses, goodbye. There will be ideas thrown out about the future, sure. Some of them may even be based on trade policy, getting jobs back to the States, fair wages for the lower and middle classes, taxes that work for all, and keeping the last gasp of the American Dream alive. If so, they will be lost in the giant rallying scream of 'We have offended the Almighty with all this so-called acceptance and we're going to fix that right now by fixing everyone else real good!' ('Really well' would be intellectual elitism.)
I will not watch one minute. I will read the transcripts the next day. I will even read the official ones posted on the GOP's own site. But when everything in the world is currently my fault, I prefer not to be blamed in real time.
One nation, under the thumb.
And yes, you will be wasting your time debating with me on this. So let's not. Shall the coverage begin?
Again: baseball metaphors=death.
