Hey, I can answer one of your questions: the showrunner and writers killed Heroes.
When you have a show that suddenly becomes an out-of-the-blue hit, you have a lot of pressure on you to burn off three years of storyline in the first season to keep the surprises coming. Heroes burned off almost four years. And popular reaction forced them to change some of it to keep the popular characters out front.
It's hard to change on the fly. That's why you won't see Eric Kripke making any changes to the Charlie character on Revolution, despite her unpopularity. It throws all the other story lines out of whack.
