Seeing as we live in the same media market, my coverage is mostly the same as yours. And there is quite a bit of coverage of some gay blogs that I read.

As far as the charges, I do think Dharun did something wrong. Secretly videotaping anyone and broadcasting it is an invasion of privacy. Had he planted a camera in a Victoria's Secret dressing room and broadcast it, there would be no discussion of whether it was a crime or not.

The "bias intimidation" charges are not as clear to me. I agree with the defense's depiction of Dharun as a spoiled, arrogant, privledged d-bag who looked down on his roommate and treated him as fodder for jokes. But if those personality traits were illegal, there would be a lot more room to sit on the subway. I don't think Dharun ever considered that Tyler might be pushed to the point of suicide and I can't totally blame him for Tyler's actions. It may have been the proverbial straw that broke the camels back (Tyler checked Dharun's twitter account over thirty times in the days before his suicide, so clearly it was on his mind) but there was a lot piled on that camel before that final straw. Ultimately, Tyler is responsible for jumping off that bridge.
