PLEASE NOTE: The Reality TV World Message Boards are filled with desperate
attention-seekers pretending to be one big happy PG/PG13-rated family. Don't
be fooled. Trying to get everyone to agree with you is like herding cats,
but intolerance for other viewpoints is NOT welcome and respect for other
posters IS required at all times. Jump in and play, and you'll soon find out
how easy it is to fit in, but save your drama for your mama. All members are
encouraged to read the
complete guidelines.
As entertainment critic Roger
Ebert once said, "If you disagree with something I write, tell me so, argue
with me, correct me--but don't tell me to shut up. That's not the American way."

"OT Secret Santa - Likes & Dislikes, and Assignments" |
LAST EDITED ON 11-01-10 AT 05:25 PM (EST) Hi all! It's getting to be that time of the year again... and you know what it is -- it's time to tell Santa if you've been a good or bad boy/girl this year while you fill out your wish lists.
This is going to be a two-part assignment, so I'm going to break out my collection of whips if it's not adhered to. Part 1 Post in this thread: 1. Your likes 2. Your dislikes This is also a LAST CHANCE to sign up if you haven't already done so! Cut-off is this Wednesday at 6:00 pm EST because I need to start matching up potential giftees for PM'ing on Friday (hopefully). Part 2
Send a PM (red wavy flag) to me: 1. Identify your full name or user ID you want shown on the address for package to sent to you 2. Your address 3. Whether you'd have an issue with sending a gift over the border (either way to the USA or Canada) 4. Whether you'd have an issue with sending a gift overseas to the United Kingdom or the Philippines (take a look at what it'd cost to send a typical smallish package from your area) 5. NEW: your past giftees that you've sent to and gifters you've received from -- my goal is to have 100% new gifters/giftees for each of you this time. A few of you have already sent your PMs, but do add any extra info from above if you haven't mentioned it already in your original PMs. Please post and PM at your earliest convenience to allow for the most flexibility in matching up peeps and to give plenty of shopping/shipping time.
Hup, hup, hup, let's go! Edit: Here's the list of people, organized alphabetically, who have said they're participating (at least as far as I understood it). Please advise if I've left anyone out or you don't want to be included. I'll take anything that passes through customs, save for a couple of items:1. Winter wear (scarves, mittens, earmuffs, etc.) - We don't have winter, and the coldest temperature that I remember is at 10 Celsius (50 Fahrenheit). I probably will never use any winter wear save for a thin sweater. 2. Tub items (bath bombs, bubble baths, rubber duckies, etc.) - I don't own a tub. 3. Chocolates - You probably won't be able to send any foods that needs refrigeration overseas anyway.

Stuff with Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, or Charlie Brown Puzzle books with Sudoku or KenKen. Kewl Kat stuff. Smelly stuff/stuff to make other smells smell different, etc. * I'm using the Canadian spelling since our host is of that kind.

44. "Update and Rules" |
We're off to a great start so far! I've now received (via PM) 22 of the 28 people taking part in this year's SS, so it shouldn't be long before I have everyone's names, addresses and past SS history, so I can start matching up peeps. Whoops, almost forgot to mention the rules in my original post. So here we go...
1) We've said in the past that there's a $10 limit but we know that most of us won't stick to that. So just try not to be too extravagant (with the exception of whoever has the fooners ). 2) Send your gifts on time. Please try to send your gifts during the final two+ weeks of November -- Nov 14-20 if you're sending international, Nov 21-26 if sending just over the border, Nov 26-30 if sending within the USA. It takes, more or less, about 3 weeks to send over the border. You want to set a goal of having the gifts arrive about mid-December. Of course, with the craziness of Thanksgiving happening on November 25th, you can plan around that time in terms of gift-sending. Frodis made a good suggestion to shop a little early to avoid the crush of people during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. 3) If circumstances come up to create a difficult time for you in terms of being able to handle the financial parts of the gift exchange, please do send a PM and we'll take care of it discreetly. Bottom line, we don't want anyone to end up feeling left out, and nobody has to know if it turns out to be a problem for you. ~But~ if somebody isn't able to do his/her part and doesn't say anything, it will inevitably come out and everyone will know one way or another by process of elimination once the reveals are made.

Last years list updated: Likes: -what I would LUV - a printed version of the OTCC recipes with recommendations - that would be fabulous! - tea (leaves not bags I use a bodum tea pot and no roobious- red tea to those unfamiliar) - candles (no scent as I usually burn 50 or more candles at the same time) - flavoured cooking oils or hot sauces (esp. if local to you) or any regional food/spice local to you -books, I read sci fi/fantasy, self help, business/money and if you just make a suggestions about your favorite book of all time I'll try and take it out of the library and read it -bonus (for me) if you add your favorite cooking/baking recipe that's easy (ie not dirtying every pot and pan in the kitchen) but great I would really enjoy that Dislikes: X-mass stuff things I would have to dust later (remember I already have 50 or more candles around my place and a cat) anything to put on fridge I would also like to know who I'm giving to soon as I luv to shop.

Pasting sounded like a good idea.'Likes: To experiment with your favorite movies & TV shows (or anime if you know more about what you're doing than I do, which takes about twelve seconds). Interesting and/or unusual books/graphic novels/magazines/etc. Dark chocolate. Darker than midnight inside a black hole at the end of time. Experimental animation. Strange regional foods & spices. Instrumental music from classical to two seconds from now. Oddball practical stuff which I might not think of getting for myself. (I'm still using some things from earlier exchanges.) Gift cards of nearly all sorts. Bubble baths with mild scents. (No fruits or vegetables.) You've read the posts: what do you think I want? Whatever you were able to get because the mailing deadline was in five minutes and the only thing open was the 24-hour drugstore. Dislikes: Clothing. (Okay, I don't hate clothes 24/7, but having other people buy it for me never works out.) Bags of all sorts. (Ibid.) Anything related to purse dogs. (I hear the joke gift moving about your brain.) Alcohol. Most romances, inspirational stories endorsed by Oprah, anything endorsed by Oprah, and Oprah. Socks.' I also like money. Cash. Negotiable funds good for all debts public and private. I like it a lot.

82. "A funny story..." |
Now for something completely out of left field:I opened up my red wavy inbox the other day and saw a whole bunch of messages from peeps sending me their 411s. One poster's reply in particular caught my eye - I recognized the street address as it was the same street an old friend of mine lived on in the early 90's, although I couldn't recall the house number ... and the poster's first name was the same as the one I recalled owning that house. I figured, "what are the odds there are more than one Xxxxxxs that live on this street?" So, I fired off a PIN to my friend and asked him what was the address of the house he lived in that area. It turns out that my friend rented a room in this poster's house and I used to go over there every so often. What are the odds of bumping into someone you haven't seen in maybe 17 or 18 years right here on OT? This poster asked me if this could be classified as an unofficial peep meet? If so, scratch another name off the MOPS list!

86. "Your assignments.." |
... are now being sent to you one-by-one via PM - I'm going by alphabetical order. Give me a few minutes and then go check your PMs!I'm going to ask for 3 things from you in order to keep my sparkling spreadsheet in neat-o order: - Reply on here (if you want a free DAW count on the odometer) that you received my PM - Send a PM once you've shipped your gift so I don't have to do any whip crackin'. - Send a PM (or post on the Reveal thread) that you've received your gift. {puts on nagging hat and steps onto soapbox}
This way, it will help to know if everyone has sent theirs and I can know if someone should have received theirs within a certain time frame. We had an unfortunate situation last year where one person never acknowledged whether they received their gift or not, so the gifter was left wondering. Again, try to send your gifts within the suggested time frames so that *everyone* can get their gifts within the same couple of weeks in December. It adds to the mystery and anticipation if everyone is getting theirs around the same time -- and you don't want to have someone sitting by watching everyone else open theirs if you can help it. As well... if it turns out to be a difficult time for you, please do send a PM and we'll work something out discreetly. Bottom line is to make sure everyone is having a good time and able to take part. Lastly... the goal is to HAVE FUN and if the gift isn't entirely to your liking when you receive it, do keep in mind the spirit and effort that went behind the gift and the shipping and everything. {steps off soapbox} Go. Have fun and be merry!

Dear Secret Santa,Hint: Yep, We I have decided to set my heart on Lady GaGa. *looks @ Kidflash* In a box with airholes. Why? Because We I like her creativity. We I bet she is quite intelligent and writes extensively with Chaucer-like wisdom for Playboy. Too bad I haven't seen a copy for over twenty years, but we I have great faith in her from what the media reports.Hint: It has been a long time since I've had a drink from the suburbs. Now that it's available on Earth, I expect no less, especially to water my tomatoes next Summer. Probably about 10 cases will give them that "home grown" flavor. I'm not greedy.Hint: Yep, The Ahwahnee Hotel. I think it would be a nice vacation cottage. Understated and not extravagant, plus, California will be selling it off @ fire sale prices given the extent of the debt. National Park Service take the Hindmost.Hint: On my planet these are the equivalent of the VW Bug. I have great nostalgia for the old days. Remeber, even if it doesn't work, I can haul it up into our Shamil Ash tree in the backyard for visitors to stay. Most likely Kingfish. Handmade by the incredibly talented SyrenOf course dark chocolate, red wine, something unusual and fun from your planet, handmade Christmas ornaments and everything else you own are always welcome. Come yourself, too. Save on shipping!

Last night there was a package on the porch, delivered by the US Postal Service. I couldn't think of anything I was expecting, so I thought-Secret Santa! Wow-that's early! It was a really heavy box, which I thought was strange. It had a myriad of interesting stamps on it...maybe the sender was trying to send me clues! I ciphered away... Cryptic return address...hmmmm. I was putting clues together. Probably spent three minutes looking at these things. Then I opened the box .... and realized it was truck pistons I'd ordered for my dad via ebay last week. Doh! -A Tribetastic Creation

You tear it off, other times you unwrap. It depends. foonermint: not getting into more trouble than that. No way. No How. Unless there are bows involved. Big ones.. then none.
