1) Vern - I don't think there's been a room yet I haven't liked
2) Gen - she is sooo cool and funny. I love her style and I think she is a beautiful person
3) Laurie - love her use of fabrics. Sometimes her style doesn't sit well with me though
4) Doug - he's about 50/50 with me. Sometimes hits, sometimes misses completely
5) Frank - a little to craftsy and country for my style
6) Kia - I hate borders. She feels the need to put them in every room. 'Nuff said.
7) Edward - why don't I know who this is?
8) Hildi - should be fired immediately. No sense of style. 2. Better host: Paige or Alex?
Paige, without a doubt. Did you know that although Paige is her middle name, her married last name is Page. So technically she's Paige Page. 3. Better carpenter (whatever criteria you want): Ty or Amy Wynn?
Amy Wynn is cool, but Ty is hilarious. The edge goes to Ty. 4. Worst room you remember seeing
Hildi's "Tiffany's" inspired room with blue swirls. Made me want to hurl. Honourable mention to Doug's Red-square drug induced delusion. 5. Best room you remember seeing
Anything Vern has done. Last week's living room was pretty incredible though. 6. "While you were out"....great addition to enjoy with TS or piss-poor show?
Can't bring myself to sit through an entire episode. It's incredible how a host can either make or break a show.

I think Paige is a cutey. She borders on too perkey, but I think she's entertaining. Alex was lacking on the personality factor. 3. Favorite...90% of Verns. I also loved the kids room with a tent that Hildi did and the movie theatre Doug did. 6. "While you were out"....great addition to enjoy with TS or piss-poor show?
While you were out sucks.
They have a bigger design budget than TS, but many of their designs look so cheap and chinsey. And that host Theresa just irritates me. And those looser questions are dumb throughout the show.

Basically any room by Vern. He did a bedroom in these fabulous colors (sables and burgundies) with the most beautiful array of fabrics. The room was so warm and romantic, it made me want to seduce someone. 6. "While you were out"....great addition to enjoy with TS or piss-poor show?
Sorry kids but I don't like "While You Were Out". It's a cheap imitation kinda like pleather. Hey does anyone watch Landscape by Design or the other outdoor shows?????

Love TS, I'm addicted, love when it's on late night when insomnia hits.... But I don't think I could ever let any of them redo a main room, guest room ok, kid room ok but not my livingroom, kitchen or bedroom. I actually like Changing Rooms on BBC America better because their designers actually listen to the likes and dislikes of the homeowners.Hildi, Laurie, Gen, Frank, Vern, Doug, Edward, Kia 1. Gen - love her personality, and creativity, except the moss on the walls thing
2. Vern - does listen alot, very clean lines
3. Laurie - love her use of color
4. Frank - personalityplus, artistic side is wonderful
5. Edward - seems to listen a bit more to the homeowners
6. Kia - least evil of the rest
7. Doug - male primadonna
8. Hildi - I think she sees something she likes somewhere else and whether or not it fits into the homeowners lifestyle she's going to replicate it, primadonna max, yuck.
Host - Paige, use to be Alex until I saw her on Joe Mill Carpenter - Ty, yum Worst room - though I like her the most I'm sticking with Gen's moss on the wall room Best - Gen's Arabian nights theme for the teenage girl While you were out - only if not another channel is being received by our satellite dish

So, let's talk TS! Ok! 1. Rank the following designers from your favorite to least favorite (include reasons if ya want): 1) Vern - he consistently has the best rooms with only the rare clunker 2) Doug - his rooms are hit and miss but his sarcasm and attitude make him always fun to watch, and he makes homeowners cry sometimes too 3) Gen - she's fun to watch as well and most of her rooms are good, sometimes she gets a little too out there 4) Frank - I'm not really into his style but he seems really fun and most of his rooms turn out well 5) Laurie - too many greens and yellows 6) Hildi - rarely comes up with anything I would ever want to see in a room: the straw room, the pink couches, the blue plaid basement - ugh! As for Edward & Kia, I haven't seen enough of them to give them a grade. 2. Better host: Paige or Alex?

1. Designers:
Vern: Head and shoulders above the rest. Everything he does is great.
Doug: Most of his stuff is good, and he adds a dramatic element to the show. "I'm wonderful because I'm the designer." You never know who he's going to fight with next.
Genevieve: Sometimes she does something horrible, but she's funny and creative.
Laurie: Hit or miss.
Frank: Way too "country kitchen" for my tastes. Plus, he's gross. Homeowners seem to love his stuff for some reason.
Kia: She's a fruitcake, and can come up with some real crap. Eyes of Horus, indeed.
Hildi: Her designs are horrible, and she's an unentertaining b*tch. "Everyone in America knows I can rip out that carpet if I want to." Well, boo hoo.
(left out Edward, haven't seen enough yet)2. Host
Paige: Sometimes she's a little to giggly, but I love when she berates the designers if they are behind, over budget, or doing something horrible. 3. Carpenter
I think that Amy is probably a better carpenter, but Ty is better for the show in general. 4. Worst Room
Easily the guest bedroom that was half carpeted with mini-golf carpet, with a fence and other "outdoor elements." With the bedspread being mini-golf carpet as well, the room looked exactly like a graveyard. 5. Best Room
Anything of Vern's that is grey and red with lots of squares and straight lines. 6. While You Were Out
Don't like it. It's cheesy, and I don't like the designers. Andrew Dan-Jumbo is the only good point (and not just because he has the best name ever).

OMH!!! I luuuuv trading spaces and I got to meet Genevieve in person! She is really pretty and cool and ditzy all at the same time.1. Rank the following designers from your favorite to least favorite (include reasons if ya want): Vern- always a good plan, and good use of color, a great designer
Laurie- Ok, sometimes she overly emotional (like when she was pregnant), but I usually like the colors she picks
Doug- love him sometimes and hate him sometimes, pretty entertaining though
Gen- she's a lot of fun, but her designs are goofy
Frank- too country, but he seems really nice
Edward- haven't seen him too much, but he has some good ideas
Hildi- a freak, wouldn't let her near my house
Kia- lock the door, turn out the lights, she's frickin' scary 2. Better host: Paige or Alex? Paige is great!!! Alex was not very interesting and even worse on Joe Millionare 3. BTW Gen told us there is a guy named Fast Eddie that really does all the carpenter work on the show. Ty and Amy Wynn are just window dressing. 4. Worst room you remember seeing A tie between Hildi's flowered bathroom and Kia's graveyard bedroom. 5. Best room you remember seeing Just about anything Vern does. I liked the kid room he did with the train theme. Maybe not the best room, but one of my favorite episodes is the one where Doug blows up the photo of the woman in her undies to hang over the mantle, her reaction was so funny! "While you were out"....great addition to enjoy with TS or piss-poor show? WYWO is so-so, Ok to watch if nothing else is on.

Vern ~ so detailed
Gen ~ Cracks me up and has good ideas
Frank ~ Entertainment factor
Doug ~ Either hate him or like him...when will the homeowners learn whatever you tell him NOT to do he will do.
Laurie ~ started irritatin me when pregnant.
Hili ~ She is a little out there sometimes ~ spray painting furniture

That is a tough one . .Ty goes the extra mile, staying late. Worst room
The tent room. Where Hildi converted the people's living room into a circus tent, red and white fabric so she could hide the stereo equipment. I would have died! Best room.
Almost all of Vern's. Gen did this one where they put 100 squares on one wall that made it looke 3D. It turned out nice While you were out
Too slow, and the host gets on my nerves. And I agree with most of the people they have a higher budget but the work looks cheesey.

She always tries for perfect symmetry and I like asymmetry. She spends way too much of the budget on pillows. Who wants a couple of big pillows covered with $200 worth of fabric? 6. V-E-R-N Vern! Love this boy to pieces! He can do my rooms ANY time, wink wink nudge nudge. I think he's got something goin on with Ty. You watch them interact and decide.
Then there's Frank because he is just the sweetest man and oh so crafty. Not my style but so much fun I love him!
Gen is a kook. Very big on THEMES. Isn't this the cigar box lady?
Yet not as bad as Kia. Hellooooo...someone get this woman a foil hat, the aliens have totally taken over.
Hildi. Hon, it's not all about you. You see that one where she put a face mural on the wall and it was HER? I first thought it was Marilyn Manson....heheheh...EW!
Edward and Laurie? Don't know them but they must be better than...
Doug. Well I think I've made it abundantly clear that DOUG SUCKS in another thread. If this man comes anywhere near my house I am running him over with my car. 2. Better host: Paige or Alex? Perky Paige. Love that haircut! 3. Better carpenter (whatever criteria you want): Ty or Amy Wynn? I used to LOVE Ty. But his over the top quirly guy act has kind of put me off. I'll say Amy because she gets the job done without acting like a primadonna. 4. Worst room you remember seeing...I don't remember but it was Doug's demonic handiwork and a woman wept. 5. Best room you remember seeing. Vern did a room with an ocean theme that started out extremely trashy and ended up looking somewhat classy. 6. My last comment here is: just what is so WRONG about ceiling fans, dammit? They are GREAT when it's hot out and yet almost every designer removes them on sight! SAVE THE CEILING FANS NOW!

He's so laid back and seems to have a lot of fun doing the rooms. And I don't think I've ever seen a bad room done by him.

3. Doug. When he hits, he's good. But when he misses, he tends to miss by a lot.
4. Gen. Same reason why Laurie is behind Vern, Gen is behind Doug.
5. Frank. I'm assuming this is the old guy. I think I've only seen him once or twice, so don't know much.
I haven't really seen (or don't recall) the other ones, so I won't include them. 2. Better host: Paige or Alex? Alex who? Never seen her (I'm assuming Alex is a she), but I think Paige is just adorable. She's so bubbly! 3. Better carpenter (whatever criteria you want): Ty or Amy Wynn? Actually, I have a secret crush on Amy Wynn, so that's my choice. I'm sure she's good at tinkering under the sink...ahem. 4. Worst room you remember seeing I can't remember what the room was, but there was one with this pukish shade of green on the walls that made me want to follow suit. 5. Best room you remember seeing I think it's Frank (well, the old guy), but during the TS college special, he redecorated a sorority house room, and it was really cool. 6. I think it's Frank (well, the old guy), but during the TS college special, he redecorated a sorority house room, and it was really cool.Not sure if there's been more than one college special, so maybe you saw a different one than I did. Was it the one with the really high walls that they made look really 1930's and had a "painting" that was actually silhouettes of Paige and Gen? That room was designed by Gen, and if we're talking about the same room, I'd have to agree... Gen did an awesome job. Doug, on the other hand, should have quite while he was ahead after just cleaning the room in the fraternity.

That was the one with the painted anchors right? Delta Gamma or something? I like the bench a lot on that one too. I don't watch too often so I will not rate the designers, but I remember the military one with the AA woman designer??? She used Urban/Arctic Camo fabrics and real parachutes for curtins. The woman was like I hate the military, they are everywere in my life. All I wanted was a refuge from the base life and you give me a military sheik room. I felt so bad for her.

I'll admit it. I'm a huge fan. My wife and I often try to figure out a) who we'd want to trade spaces with, and b) which room we'd want them to tackle in our house. We've actually incorporated a few things we've seen on the show here and there.1. Rank the following designers from your favorite to least favorite (include reasons if ya want): Hildi, Laurie, Gen, Frank, Vern, Doug, Edward, Kia Vern - hands down, the best. Even his worst design was better than 90% of anything anyone else has come up with.
Gen - love the whole barefootin' thing she has goin' on and I almost always like the rooms she designs.
Laurie - there's usually a very nice classiness to her designs. She even pulled off that strange wall with the multi-colored squares. I'm not sure anyone else could have.
Edward - Yes, he has the absolute worst hair on the planet. Yes, he has no personality. Yes, you have no idea what he's working toward as the show progresses. But damn, the results are amazing.
Frank - waaaaay too artsy-craftsy for my tastes and I wouldn't want him anywhere near my house, but he's a sweet guy.
Kia - She's awful, but hasn't had time to really get on my nerves yet like the bottom two.
Doug - Sometimes jerks are charming. Doug isn't. And he's not talented enough to pull it off, either. But he's a smidge better than...
Hildi - She shouldn't just be fired. She should be forced to be a contestant on Survivor:Antarctica. 2. Better host: Paige or Alex? I'm a semi-newbie to TS. I really haven't seen many Alex shows, but I really like Paige. She just seems very natural. Forced perky grates on my nerves like nothing else in the world, but naturally perky can be charming in one-hour doses. She's just a very good fit for the show. 3. Better carpenter (whatever criteria you want): Ty or Amy Wynn? I really like Amy Wynn a lot (why do they always use her last name, btw?). She reminds me of a carpenter I worked with in Seattle building sets for shows that was one of the best techies I've ever seen. Nevertheless, I love Ty (and not for the hunko reasons most people do). He initially really got on my nerves, but you have to love the one person on the show who can occasionally deflate the egos of Doug and Hildi. 4. Worst room you remember seeing Man, there have been some really bad ones. Doug's fraternity make-over, Doug's cars in the boy's room (looked cool, but totally unsafe), Doug's movie theater, Hildi's quarters of mauve and grey, several others of Hildi's that I've successfully wiped from my mind (was the one where they stuck hay to the walls hers? I think it was *shiver*), but first and foremost... Hildi's bathroom with the thousands of flowers stapled to the walls. 5. Best room you remember seeing Here's the reason I rank Edward so high. The art deco bedroom that he did. I still have no idea how he managed that with 1k. That room was phenomenal. 6. "While you were out"....great addition to enjoy with TS
or piss-poor show? I'm kinda indifferent about it. If I'm bored and nothing else is on, I'll watch, but I don't really care how rooms turn out at the end like I do on TS. I have yet to see a room on this show that really impressed me. Sad fact about WYWO, though... The episode where they did the Survivor-themed back yard was on the same week as the S5 finale I summarized. And I found that, even though I didn't much care about the back yard, I cared more about it than I did about the outcome of S5. *sigh*

I love TS! May I just say this first, Ty is so FREAKIN HOT!!!!

1. Vern by far. Haven't seen a bad room yet by him
2. Gen. She seems so fun and I like her use of color
3. Frank. Especially his kitchens
4. Laurie. Little annoying, but every once in a while she pulls out a masterpiece
5. Doug. The absoulte WORST one of them all. He sucks. If I ever did this show and I found out he was doing my house, I would quit.
The other two I have only seen a couple times, and don't know their work well enough 2. Better host: Paige
or Alex? Paige 3. Better carpenter (whatever criteria you
want): Ty or Amy
Wynn? Besides being HOT, he goes the extra mile 4. Worst room you remember
seeing Someone else mentioned this one, the circus tent of Doug's. I wouldn't have waited for them to leave before I started tearing that monstrosity down 5. Best room you remember

You guys are so lucky! We JUST started getting episodes of TS here on the military network (first season, UGH). I was SO looking forward to watching it when I saw the commercials right before we left the states (I think I saw some commercials in Dec 2000 or Jan 2001). I think we're on about the 5th show (we get them on Saturdays). THe one we just had was the "moss room" episode. I didn't get to see the finished product because I was putting my daughter to sleep but that was the first room of Genevieve's that I didn't like (from what we've had anyway). I have yet to ee Vern, Kia, and Edward (I can't wait for Vern because he's GORGEOUS and has great designs from what I've heard from everyone). Of the ones I have seen, here's my rating:1. Frank (he had a really cute playroom/office and another nice room) and he seems SO nice and is hilarious
2. Genevieve (liked a kitchen she did)
3. Laurie (only saw one that I remember and it was okay)
999. Doug/Hildi - neither seems to listen to the suggestions of the people they're working with and their rooms are BUTT ugly. Doug's Modern Asian dining room wasn't TOO bad, but everything Hildi has done is just ick. A kitchen she did was her best, but it was still ugly. As far as hosts, I've only seen Alex and I like her a lot. She's silly. Look forward to Paige as everyone seems to like her. And I much prefer Amy Wynn to Ty. I don't see the ga-ga factor of Ty (yeah I have "different" taste than your average gal) and I just don't like him nearly as much as Amy Wynn. She's cool. Favorite room of what I've seen (actually there are two): a bedroom that Genevieve did for an almost 13 yr. old girl. Her ideas were so cute in that room and I'd have LOVED a room like that! And Frank's playroom/office was really nice...loved the way he did the walls (can't find a picture anywhere of the part of the room I really liked)

1. your favorite to least favorite designersVern - always well prepared, good ideas, good drawings, willing to stay & help with big projects. Rooms almost always turn out great. There were maybe 2 rooms that were so-so. Usually excellent work. Gen - lots of fun, good ideas, sometimes doesn't work out, but she has made some of the loveliest & imaginative rooms, plus she is the most delightful of ALL the designers, who really seems to make the whole experience fun for her team. Frank - I agree he is too kitschy, but he appreciates a space and things in it - he is great for a kitchen, a kid's room or a playroom/family room. Some of his "little touches" are easily removed. His basic sense of design and organization make him one of the better designers. Doug - simply more fun to watch than the others lower down, his crazy ideas and beyond the pale designs and attitude are what make him fun to watch, even if I wouldn't be too pleased if he were doing my room. Laurie - does find good fabrics, but her choices of colours seem to go only with HER skin colour. She's done some nice stuff, but I'm also sick of her and her colour schemes. What is with Pea Soup Green? Kia - haven't seen much of her, but what I've seen has been horrible. t\That military room was a disgrace. Only reason she's not bottom is I've not seen enough of her to put her lower than.... Hildi - the Hideous - very very occasionally has a good idea, but usually has bad ideas. Really bad. And very difficult to fix, too. Her high heels for working on the projects annoy me!! Edward - unrated - I don't think I've seen one of his yet. I've kind of OD'd on this show and haven't watched it as religiously as I used to. 2. Better host: Paige or Alex?
I got hooked on this show with Alex, and when Paige started she was perky beyond belief. Drove me round the bend. She has calmed down a few notches - witness the outpouring of support. 3. Better carpenter (whatever criteria you want): Ty or Amy Wynn?
I don't find Ty to be a super-hunk, but it's interesting to watch the interaction between him and Hildi - there was a buzz that those two were an item. They always seem to be standing a lot closer when discussing "designs" and "ideas" than seems necessary.
I like AmyWynn - she's no-nonsense, but it's fun when she has a "moment" of silliness. Very good work by her, and also by Ty. I like them both, but if it were my house, I think I'd prefer to know Amy Wynn was in the workshop. 4. Worst room you remember seeing
The glass in the fireplace in a house with kids (Hildi), the orthagonal room (Hildi), the Hay room (Hildi) the wall treatment by Doug that made a living room look like a giant bathroom, Gen's Moss room. (just to name a few) 5. Best room you remember seeing - the Arabian Nights bedroom by Gen, the Feng Shui room by Vern with the bamboo plants in the table, Vern did a boy's bedroom with soccer ball motif that was cute. Frank's Kitchen built around the light fixture. there are more, can't think of them just now. 6. "While you were out"....great addition to enjoy with TS or piss-poor show?
This show stunk at first but I've watched a few and it's been "interesting". I still love to catch Changing Rooms when I can - it's the best by far! Overall, I've gotten the impression that TS is deliberately going for the shock effect - trying to annoy the HOs and make them upset with ludicrous designs. It's kind of turned me off the show. Also after a while I get tired of seeing everything done "on a shoestring budget." It doesn't have to be design for the millionaire, but for some of us, renovating the whole house means setting priorities, and there is just a bit more money and a bit more time to put into making the new room look REALLY good, than these shows are portraying. I just want to see what people can do when they're not worried quite so much about the budget that they have to use actual garbage salvaged on trash collection day. So I've been watching other interior design shows like "Designer Guys" and "Room Service."
