What finally convinced me that Shii Ann goes was from Webby's official pick. Even in (as I believe will happen) a traditional merge and TC, Ken might win IC. Shii Ann's attempt to play CG will be found out by SJ, who will inform CG, and Shii Ann gets the Brandon/Zzzoe treatment THIS week. I was very tempted to stick with my Ken pick, but if Paratrooper jumps out the door with this pick, this paratrooper (me) will follow right along. So to you dirty nasty legs: Baaaaa.... "Ken" With so much to work from in the previews (read: so much to deceive us with), I'm going for the obvious last-bootee-before jury, the strong guy. Most of my speculation is based upon Outfrontgirl's great thread containing myriad scenarios for what the heck is going to happen this week, and I'm buying into several of those. I think that something will change in the make-up of the merge. They will merge this episode, as in "live together," but there's really going to be nothing more to the "pairing" up of the tribe members at the stone circle except for a way to get to know each other. I'm guessing that immunity may go along tribal lines for one more episode, leading to the Chewies being protected, but both tribes attending TC. Shii Ann will defect, to save herself, with Ken being the bootee. Other supporting factors: Ken's exposure increased last episode, which is a traditional pattern for upcoming boots. Also, I find the timing of his "head shot" suspect, as often soon-to-be bootees see an increase in media attention. Finally, I think Shii is turning into the Kathy of this season--always seen as vulnerable, but never getting the boot. Although there are very plausible scenarios that would explain a Shii boot at this time, I don't think she goes just yet. Ken is much more of a post-merge threat for individual immunity, and I think the CGs will see that and boot him before targeting the girls and old guy of Sookie.   Top

"vote change: Shii Ann" I've felt less and less comfortable with a Ken boot since I posted. I do think this will be another tribal immunity, and that Shii will go. The only one protecting her seems to be Jake and to a lesser extent Penny, but I have a feeling the harem will go against their master and keep Ken. There is also a strong possiblily that it is individual immunity Ken would win it. However, I'm still looking at episode 8's title as doubt as a Shii boot, but it seems all the heavy duty spoilers are going with Shii, so that's enough to sway my already on the fence vote.   Top

"KEN" This was a tough vote but I decided to pick Ken..bc Shii is just too obvious and I mean the girl has like 9 lives..supposedly she was suppose to be gone a LONG time ago..but guess what Shii is in episode 7..amazing huh?..No-one would ever really believe or make a prediction like that before the show started..everybody thought she was a goner by episode 4...I just can't bring myself to vote for her Besides..the evidence against Ken is growing at a rapid pace..first all the damn animosity against Shii from ppl already at LL..Jed and Robb especially were very harsh critics of her..Steph to a lesser degree..It def. seems like they dont know the Shii outside of the game...Then we get the publicity photo from Ken..and when photos show up..you know something is wrong..remember that black/white photo of Kelly Goldsmith in Survivor 3..well that was released about 4 days before her upcoming boot..Also Ken is an obvious threat..whether he competes in the challenges or not..CG is going to target him...So Ken..I welcome you to loser lodge!   Top

Jake, Penny, and Erin are UTR (safe), so between Shii Ann and Ken: 1) Ken's the biggest immunity threat. 2) Ken is a gdiva star. 3) Shii Ann is likely to defect because a) saying she hated her tribe b) thought about switching before c) the next ep. title hints she is still around. 4) Conflict in the preview of this ep. between Ken and Shii Ann teases that something is up as far as backstabbing goes. 5) Jeff Probst said pre-show that there are 'evil' players - here is the start of it. edited to add points 4 and 5.   Top

"Shii Annoying" LAST EDITED ON 10-30-02 AT 02:33 AM (EST) My reasoning's already scattered all over the Merge thread I started, but let's see if I can do it quick and dirty ... sorry, no can do. I have yet to consider voting for her in any earlier episodes-- so unlike everybody who got burned voting for her before, if I'm wrong to pick Shii Ann ... well, it's been going around. I do think this is an Occam's Razor scenario: She starts to court CG in assumption they will merge and have a tie vote in which she could be vulnerable and because she hates herself (JP) and her tribe. Ken gets on her case. The episode is edited to make Ken look like the target. Ken gets enough face time to be booted in 8. There will be a surprise, that the IC is team competition, and SJ loses. Occam's Razor that the rules change minimally says that the losing team votes out a member. It's Shii Ann, because just as in S3 (Kelly) and S4 (Zoe)--no one wants a person around who's a loose cannon, and that's worse than a challenge threat. Jed, Stephanie, and Robb dislike Shii so much, and have each other and Tanya to hang out with, that they ignore her--in fact they leave on a tour of Thailand around the time she arrives, as the S3 bunch went on safari and the S4 pre-jury left the Marquesas (for Australia or New Zealand) after boot 7. So they are not stuck at a hotel or lodge with her, where there's nothing to do but talk things out. On the Thai tour, "know-it-all" Shii Ann hangs out with lonely Ghandia, for the most part, which is why Ghandia wants to protect Shii Ann when people are talking trash about her over on EZ. And yes, they smoke... and Shii Ann tells Ghandia what a good guy Jake is and how much he loves his wife. Next time on Survivor: they merge at RC and get used to sleeping with the enemy, and Banana Cop gets his respect votes, and by Episode 9, the 3 Sookie remnants are ready to try Desperate Measures. It seems like it's going to be between Shii Ann and Ken though, just based on previews. Why it's likely to be Ken and not Shii Ann 1) We see Ken confronting Shii Ann's loyalty.. and commenting how she would be labeled as a rat for the rest of her life if she betrayed the Sook Jai. Sounds like Ken is really worried. Since it's KEN that's confronting Shii Ann, and not the whole tribe, it's very likely that CG is targeting Ken, and Shii Ann is the swing vote, otherwise I don't think ken would be so aggravated if say Jake was the target. 2) Would this conversation between Shii Ann and Ken even BE happening if Ken wasn't on the block? 3) HUGE spike time for Ken last episode. 4) Stereotypical first Boot if there's a merge. (due to strength) 5) MB has shown us Shii Ann talking about switching or not like her tribe over and over again. Seems like he's preparing for a storyline here. 6) Still can't get over the fact that Jed is so hugely bitter about Shii Ann. If Shii Anng gets booted next, Shii Ann wouldn't have done really any much better than Jed in the game, and so Jed probably wouldn't have been so bitter. 7) CG has no motive to vote for Shii Ann.. she's not an immunity threat and she seems to be getting along well with the CG in the previews. I don't think previous votes would be a reason CG votes for Shii Ann. 8) Shii Ann is paired up with Clay. Clay is part of the stronger men's alliance on CG. If he backs up Shii Ann, so will the rest of CG.   Top

Spike in face time last episode served two purposes - to show a Robb conflict and to give us insight into our cop. Since we didn't need further evidence of Robb's conflicts with his tribe, I believe it was more important from an editing standpoint to bring Ken into the forefront. Since he has not been participating in challenges, he's been hidden from our sight for most of the early parts. CG will definitely target Ken, the biggest strength on the other tribe. I still firmly believe it's going to be Ken or Shii Ann, and I've broken my precedent of putting all 100 points on one bootee in the Yahoo game because I've been so on the fence with this one. I'm switching to Shii Ann on the naive faith that MB is finally getting back into the story arc tradition, and her story is done. I'm also remembering the spoiler we've had for some time that Ghandia gets to know Shii Ann as a smoker. If Shii Ann is not voted out this time, then Ghandia will not interact with her until the rap party, since this is our last pre-jury boot. Ken's story is still not completely told, and while this is not a prerequisite for booting, we also don't have anything linking him to Loser Lodge besides the history that the E7 bootee is typically a strong individual IC threat. Yes, CG would target Ken over Shii Ann. But will they get the chance? If the IC is tribal, then the voting may be as well. Although SJ has had the strategy of targeting the strong, booting Ken would significantly hurt them if there were more tribal challenges, and at this point, they don't know if the next challenge is tribal or individual. Saving Ken could give them a chance of getting back to a 4-4 SJ/CG split should the next challenge be tribal and SJ wins it. I'm becoming more convinced that if the IC is tribal, then the TC vote is tribal as well. Otherwise, MB hands the winning tribe the chance to Pagong on a silver platter. And that's just what he's hoping to avoid if at all possible. So since I'm now leaning toward the TC vote being just within the SJ tribe, I think that they will take out Shii Ann rather than Ken.   Top

"Ken" The mechanics of how I think Ken will get voted out are in OFG's merge threads, so here I will just list the incidental reasons: 1) No story line. We have not seen any "What it was like to be in N.Y. for 9/11" conversations with tribemates -- which I suspect they probably had, and which would have injected some reality into this "reality" show. If Ken were going to be a significant force in the game, or even on the jury (thus being in every episode), I think we'd be seeing more facets to him, and he would be edited as a rootable "hero". But because Ken didn't fare well in the game, MB decided not to play up the NY's Finest angle, or concentrate on him much at all. He didn't make for good TV. 2) Ghandia star list. This is the last Ep where the star list can have any significance, and I think it does, because none of the non-stars seem poised to get the boot. Neither do Brian or Erin, so we're left with Shii Ann and Ken. Contrary to what I originally thought, I doubt that Ghandia got much impression of Ken while she was in the game. The only two challenges where she really had a chance to see him do anything were the baskets-to-boats RC, where Ken was the first SJ disqualified, and the lotus-petal IC, where Ken's job was to lay on the flower and hook the pieces into place. And I doubt she hung out with him post-game. Does she just think he's handsome? Maybe, but her other two male SJ stars are at LL. I think Ken goes there too. 3) Beefcake photo. 4) Bootworthy spike in face time last episode. 5) A Shii Ann boot has been "spoiled" too early and too often for me not to be suspicious, and after being showcased as a target in almost every Ep, she was on the back burner for most of Ep 6. I think her story is gearing up to head in a new direction now. And I've convinced myself that Ghandia meets her when the game is over. Maybe I'll bump into you in freakin' Brooklyn, Ken. Since Ghandia would not be able to observe Shii Ann as a smoker prior to the game, during the game, or after the game, Shii Ann and Ghandia must spend time together after both are voted out but before they return to the states. We know that GDiva basically didn't want to keep in contact with any survivors from the game except for the select few that she made friends with at loser lodge. Since the jury members are sequestered apart from the pre-jury, then Shii Ann would have to NOT be on the jury for Ghandia to be aware of her smoking habits. ...the exception to GDiva's smoker's list seems to be Clay, who was on the list, but appears likely to make the jury. Since Clay was on the same tribe, it's likely that his inclusion in the list has to do with mutual discussions about nicotine cravings while still in the game. 2) Shii Ann is one of GDiva's stars of the show. It is widely believed that GDiva was trying to "trick" the spoiling community when she listed her stars. It's far more likely that the people that she listed were people that she got to know either in the game (as with Brian) or at loser lodge (as with herself, Tanya, Shii Ann, and Robb). Since Shii Ann was never on GDiva's tribe, and it's unlikely that she would actually name any *real* stars of the show (for fear of being sued) it makes sense that Shii Ann is only included on the list due to their connection forged at loser lodge. Once again, this can only happen if Shii Ann does not make the jury. 3) Assuming a "traditional" timeline, in terms of who will eventually serve on the jury, there are seven people voted out of the game prior to the jury, the next seven form the jury, and the final two are up for a million bucks... since six have been voted out, only one more person will survive to make the jury. 4) Editing: Shii Ann's story has come full circle. She started off at odds with Jed and Robb. She has used her cunning to eliminate both of these people from the tribe. However, she is now in a vulnerable position, as she in not in a tight alliance with anyone remaining in her own tribe... We know from the previews that one contestant will try a "new strategy". This likely means a defection, and given that people rarely trust someone willing to jump sides, whoever this person is will probably be voted out of the game. Jan and Shii Ann are the two most vulnerable, but since Jan was the one that "drafted" her tribe, it's likely that she will not turn on them. Thus, the person to attempt a new strategy is likely Shii Ann. Her cunning was shown to be slipping, with the crucial immunity loss last week. Now, it's time for her to go. Basically I think that OFG is right: there will be team immunity just like the first six episodes and Sookies will go. Since Shii is already a bit on the outs with her tribe and will be more so after threatening to ally with the Chewies, she will be gone in a heartbeat. While I find the idea of "tribal immunity" but all 10 voting intriguing, I don't think that's what happens--and that's about the only way Ken would go. That seems to me like a major shake-up, and MB hasn't thrown in a major shakeup since the S3 twist. It also seems to me rather pointless for game play...it's just going to lead to pagonging. The Gdiva and other spoilers have been pointing out Shii as a likely pre-jury boot from Day 1. I haven't picked her yet, but this is her last chance to go pre-jury. Earlier in the week, I was leaning heavily toward Ken. The glamour shot was one of the reasons. Now that we know that it's not recent, that picture is just one less thing pointing to Ken. I was hoping that the show would get a big shake up, and both tribes would vote at TC. However, I don't really believe it's too likely. I think both Ken and Shii are on the fringes in SJ. I also think it's likely that SJ panics and votes out Shii, keeping Ken the stronger member, just in case they compete as tribes further than this week. Is the fact that Ghandia knows that Shii Ann smokes enough to pick her? Not for me. Is the fact that people picked her, with more inside knowledge, and resouces than I have, enough? For me it is. Too bad. I think Shii's boot is going to make the rest of the season a predictable snoozefest. It certainly looks as if the outside sources (paratrooper, Snewser, ACME, TDT, etc.) all have their sites firmly set on the Shii Devil, and who am I to go against that! (LOL) That being said Ken makes a lot of sense too, maybe more so from what we appear to know about this season (and past seasons). I've read the analsys of many who voted Shii Ann, and sadly I don't really see any of them to be so compelling on the surface. The smoking thing just isnt enough for me. The GDiva friend list, and the story arch just dont appear to be that compelling either. Maybe taken together it makes some sense, but I really feel we have to jump through hoops to make it all work better than say Ken. That being said I do think that Shii Ann is going tonight, and if so there is definately a trend forming concerning the editing of Survivor this season. That trend is something new, but for this season it seems to have held from E2 on. That is the obvious boot is always the one to go. Each week there have been one and occasionally two candidate to go, and every time one of them has been the evictee. Sick Tanya, freakin lazy Jed, drama diva, pissed off Steph, and outsider Robb have all gone down in order with the only question being which tribe would win the IC. This week Shii Ann and to a lesser extent Jan have been painted as vunerable... and this week Shii Ann will be the one to go. Certainly something to keep an eye on in the future espisodes, although I expect it will become less obvious once the tribe truly merge into one (which I expect will not happen this week). therefore... Shii Ann is my pick, Ken is my strong alternate. -ICB   Top
