"Help with the title of a reality show" |
OK, I have googled all the key words I can think of, but I cannot for the life of me remember the name of a reality show I watched a couple episodes of, then never got to watch it again. I'm hoping it's on DVD now .... anyway, here's what I remember of it:It was a foreign show, British or maybe set in New Zealand or somewhere in the UK. It was a group of people set on an island with some crates of supplies, and they had to build a shelter and deal with food issues. It was always cold and wet and rainy, and there was a cute redhead guy on there, maybe a soccer player? I'm pretty sure I watched it on BBC America. If anyone can help out with the name, I would be forever grateful!

1. "Castaway 2000" |
LAST EDITED ON 09-13-04 AT 07:42 PM (EST)I think you're thinking of Castaway 2000, in which the BBC put 36 people on the Scottish island of Taransay (where it seemed to rain every day) and let them live there for a year. The idea from the show was blatantly stolen from Survivor, which the BBC almost bought before deciding to redo the show as a documentary. The 36 seemed to have no idea of the meaning of the word "castaway" and no survival skills whatsoever. It ended up as kind of a mess, and several of the people needed several visits to psychiatrists to "deprogram" after the show ended. The show only aired in the U.S. on BBC America. And this thread should be in the "Other Reality Shows" forum! Edited to add that one of the fascinating things about the show was a libel suit. One of the people threw a chair after producers Lion TV billed him for the cost of putting his dog to sleep during the show. The incident was then edited so that it looked as if he had thrown the chair at another contestant, and other contestants were shown in out-of-context footage talking about how much he scared them. He sued for libel, and the BBC and Lion TV settled for 16,000 pounds (about $26,000 at the time) and a formal apology: http://www.guardian.co.uk/Archive/Article/0,4273,4417207,00.html
