Ted says, he mistook her for his wife. He says he forgets where he is, and he is not in his "total mind" when he does it. He apologizes from the bottom of his heart. Having tried to tally the thread and failed, LOL, I can see the need for a rule. One problem: Right now we are under STRICT orders not to make a curve in the vote thread, so that is why I didn't post under my original vote. So if there's an exception to that rule, it needs to be explained at the top. Question: Doesn't it actually make it harder to do a tally based on the last tally if some new votes (changes) are way back up the thread? I realize you can look at the post # to see if the change was new since the last tally, but it does mean you have to scroll the whole 150 or so posts near the end. Another option: Put the vote change in sequence, but clearly state the old vote being ditched so it can be subtracted from the last tally. Yet another option for neatness: Shakes and I are bad examples. Don't change your votes because of us or anyone called Snewser or Paratrooper or the ABT. (Right!)   Top

As far as changing votes -- it's a perfectly legitimate thing to do, and no one should be embarrassed about doing it. There's nothing wrong with trying to glean all the info you can and then vote. The person who tallies the thread should notice the missing post numbers and find and tally the votes. The only bad thing about this procedure is that it reduces the "bandwagon effect." I think I posted once upon a time that the only curves in the vote thread should be vote changes. Somehow, that got simplified into no curves. Probably because, before this week, there were hardly any vote changes!   Top

In any event, when the late afternoon stampede for Jed came along, I stuck with the Robbster pick. I'd rather rise and fall on my own choices than run with the crowd. It worked last week for Tanya. With EMP pulling an S3 editing move on us, I think the only thing that will help us spoilers (those of us with no inside info) to get to the right answer is good reasoning and reading between the lines. There's a lot out there to find (even in S3, after the fact we could see where EMP was leading us, nobody just wanted to see it because it seemed so wrong). Anyhow, I think it was a good job this week. Most of the crowd got the CG wins; it was just a matter of figuring out which of the beach-sleeping stupid triumverate was going to take the walk of shame. So it wasn't perfect, but given the little we've had to work with, it wasn't bad. Kudos, of course, to those of you who in your gut picked Jed.   Top

My gut literally screamed out to me when I started to figure things out for the boot -- I initially had 60 points (out of 100) on Stephanie in the Yahoo pickem league, but in the last half hour before the show, I really started to analyze the game and it hit me that Jake had a better connection with Robb and picked Stephanie first to join his team on the first day, while Jake didn't get along with Jed in the previous episode over the fact that Jed wouldn't help with the shelter and then wanted to sleep in it with the gang. So, I could see Jake going to bat for Steph/Robb and urging others to boot Jed. Jake's comments about Jed were more vocal and served as a foreshadowing in Episode 2. So, that's why I voted for Jed -- didn't really see who voted for whom in the vote thread before I made my vote.   Top

Last season, someone (very wisely) picked up on the water symbolism flowing (punny punny!) through the episodes, foreshadowing who holds the power. Has anyone else noticed the water/fire imagery in the intro? Most of the photographs are splashed with water, except for, I believe, 3; Penny is one of them, I think Ted is another. John, Tanya, and Jed all have water splashes. Could it be that the fire (or, not-splashed, aka "dry") people have the power this time? Also, I am going on record right now as stating that while I am a sucker for underdogs, I cannot believe ChewyGum is so blind as to not see Jan's strategy. She OBVIOUSLY chose a "weaker" team so that she would not stand out as the weakest member (Pat, anyone?). Now she's flying so low UTR that Lil Kim from S3 looks like a daredevil pilot. If CG doesn't get over these petty interpersonal spats and tantrums (and Brian restrains himself from hanging himself from a tree by the ring on his bathing suit... what IS that thing, anyway?), they are going to cannibalize themselves just as Jan planned. She is now the only UTR player on their team! Also, (since I know this is not an exclusive spoiler-only thread) I just want to vent and say that I don't think Heath Ledger, oops I mean Jed, is stupid; I think he's a victim of bad editing. And Dawg, I actually started to post this earlier: I absolutely expected the OFG theory to be defunct even earlier than this, and I have now discarded it for the season. Any time you post a specific theory on the boards for CBS to read that is so easily nullified by changing promo shots--I expect to see the theory contradicted if it is helping people get the spoiling right. Sure. We all know that CBS employees read the spoiler boards, and probably even post on them. Another example: we had a great theory in "the CBS official polls will ALWAYS misdirect you." CBS reads that, and throws in a non-misdirecting poll, and poof goes the theory. That's why I think we need to stay focused on the game from the players' perspective rather than follow theories. (The Hollow theory is more a general philosophy--harder to abandon, but I'm sure you've seen exceptions to the rule). It sure is hard to know what the players will do when you can't predict such "dangdumb gufus" as these people come up with though.
