S5 is coming up! Time to get ready.At this point, all I'm asking is for a preliminary indication of interest if you want to write a summary for S5. I've already heard from two people -- Naked, who wrote the summary for S3 E11, and drawde236, who will be writing an upcoming summary for BB3. If YOU are interested in writing an S5 summary, please respond to this post, and also be sure to note any limitations in time frame or availability that would need to be taken into account. We will NOT be assigning episodes at this time, though, since there are usually many more people who want to write the Survivor summaries than there are episodes. Plus, I haven't checked the schedule. I assume that, as usual, we'll need 14 writers: 13 episodes and a recap somewhere near the middle. When episodes actually ARE assigned, priority will be given to people who have previously written summaries for other shows on this site. Thus, if you want to write a Survivor summary but miss out this time ... well, there are lots of shows out there that COULD be summarized that people have done on their own: Jonnycumlately summarized "Bachelorettes in Alaska" ... SurvivinDawg summarized "Combat Missions" ... you get the drift. Thanks to all for your interest.

And probably would prefer not to do it the week after, either, since I'll be behind - watching that week on tape. And if I may request, I'd rather NOT do the recap. Of course, rabid geek that I am, I recall very well when this portrait made the rounds eons ago. If it wasn't so creepy (i.e. true to life) it would be worth getting the poster. (I think I like the pie-in-the-face most of all, though. . .)As for S5, I've been having a hard time getting enthused about another season, so far in advance--but now that I've seen this thread, I'm into it! I'm so excited to see so many of my favorite summary-writers listed--to say nothing of my compatriots in the Basher field who have obviously been stockpiling hostility all summer--I'm almost wetting myself in anticipation! Why, DK alone makes this whole lame series seem to have real purpose! *doing a happy dance, and waving at all those comrades-in-arms*

I am scheduled to be working the halftime show at the Dallas Cowboy game on Thanksgiving this year, so that week isn't the best, but If needed, I'll do it. I'm pefectly available at any other time. Instead, I decided to take applications up to a certain point and then cut off, and I'll figure out how to decide who gets the summaries ... WITH THE EXCEPTION of the first episode, which I already assigned to landruajm. Some of you may know that I try to rotate first writers and last writers, so that different people have the chance to kick the show off and wind it up. SherpaDave and SurvivinDawg, that's why I asked landruajm if he wanted the first episode: you two did the first episodes of S3 and S4 (P.S. LadyT did the first episode of S2, and the finale writers have been: S1, AyaK; S2, shakes; S3, dangerkitty; S4, Superman). Anyway, I guess I have to decide when the cutoff point for applications is. Since I already have to leave 6 of you out (I hate that, especially because you've all written other summaries for this board), the cutoff point will be ... NOW! See, that made all of your chances look better already! OK, I'll be back when I think of some tiebreaking method. Uh ... anybody want to reach into this bag of rocks?

Maybe from the list of past summary writers, the posters that haven't had the chance to write one last season get first crack? Regardless of what the last season was, be it TAR or BB? I have no idea if thats even possible. Another suggestion, why don't a couple people team up to write one? It would be very interesting and I am sure a lot of fun for them. And it could include everyone I actually wouldn't mind doing that. And Psstt...AK, look for my last BB summary Sunday night. I can't seem to finish it correctly today.

If I'd seen this thresd started (and I was looking in Bashers, where the summaries themselves are posted), I'd have been message #1 asking for the 1st episode. Also, you've said that first come, first served isn't a consideration, but you're already bringing up Ep 1 in Message 10 before many people (including me) had a chance to make input or a request for that episode. For these reasons also, I would ask you to reconsider. But, if you've irrevocably decided, then I'd rather you put me down for S6, E1 than any other S5 episode. Edited to add: In fact, considering some of the posts I've read in this thresd, it might be better just to go ahead and assign all S6 episodes now. Thanks. Edited further to add: Now I'm sounding like I'm begging and/or arguing, which I absolutely did not intend. But I really don't feel like I was given a fair shot at input for Ep. 1. Apparently Dawg was out sick that day in Kindergarten when they covered the whole "taking turns" thing. *grin*The problem with what you just said, samiam, is that according to AyaK's own specs for selection, "taking turns" is absolutely NOT the way it's decided. In fact, AyaK clearly states that those with prior summaries are given priority. And as to the other, my points made in post #55 (which I hope AyaK is not just ignoring) have nothing to do with your comment. I only want to write one episode, the first one. I've stated the reasons why, and also the reasons why I don't think I was given fair input or a fair shot at it, so far. I am also willing to pick rocks out of a bag, pick a number between 1 and 10, or post Nude for a week ( Dangerkitty raised the bar) LOL!! And for everyone else, don't forget, as Johnnycumlately and Dawg have already done, there's no reason that you can't write a summary for *ANY* reality TV show out there regardless of whether or not we have a dedicated site for the show. I know you're being humorous, but to take you a bit seriously for just a moment: Obviously Survivor is THE big reality show around here; therefore, the Suvivor summaries generate an interest that no other show will. My Combat Missions summaries got very little response. This is not a complaint, it is just a presentation of facts. People weren't watching that show. I've read very few summaries of any show I havent' watched, including the TARs. The TAR summaries I did read were very good, and this is not to put those summaries or their writers down in any way. I'm just saying that the interest was not there. The same can apply to the Big Brother summaries, and most of the other shows. Except for Survivor, the only summaries that seemed to generate real interest were Temptation Island (and Love Cruise, but those being written by a show's participant put them in a wee bit different category). So my point is that the strong interest is due to the show upon which these summaries will be foisted, and it's not (IMHO) going to spill over into other shows. OK, looks like I'm going to need to schedule BOTH S5 and S6 now, based on the number of requests we've received.I have already picked the S5 writers -- but before I publish it, I'll see if anyone else would prefer S6. It looks like, if you get an S5 episode, you won't get an S6 one, and vice versa. Dawg, as I posted earlier, I wanted to give others a chance to write the first episode. I knew landruajm was interested, because he had wanted to write the first TAR2 episode (which I ended up assigning to SherpaDave). Anyway, here's what I did: 1. I figured that I'd give the eligible S4 writers who were shut out the first crack at S5, plus landruajm and Survivorerist. Thus, these 6 people are all getting S5 episodes, unless they opt for S6 instead:
landruajm, Survivorerist, Outfrontgirl, Naked, SherpaDave and Teddy_Bear. 2. For the rest of the position -- uh, I used a random number generator. Yeah, I could have picked based on whose writing I liked the most, or something like that, but that really didn't seem fair to me. I could tell the lucky people who they are, but I'll let people select between S5 and S6 first. Actually, I've already made out a schedule, but it's subject to change, as the next item shows, so I'm not going to put it out yet. 3. SherpaDave and SurvivinDawg, I see you both asked to write the first episode. I'll be happy to let one of you write the first episode of E6. SDave, since you're on the S5 list (if you want to be), I'll offer to let you pick which episode of S5 you want to write OTHER THAN the first one ... or you and Dawg can decide which of you gets to write the first episode of S6. 4. Anyone else who would like to write a first episode -- uh, sorry, but maybe next show. 5. Anyone interested in writing an S6 summary who hasn't signed up should sign up NOW!!!!! Please post on this thread. Yeah, I realize that we don't know the air dates for S6 yet, but the actual scheduling won't take place until we do. Oh, and if you CAN'T do S6, better tell me that also in this thread. It should be obvious that I hold many of you in high regard and that I'd enjoy reading 3 or 4 summaries per show from you. However, in my opinion, the most damaging thing that we could do on this site would be to keep new people from getting an opportunity to show off too. Some of them we'll like; some of them we won't -- but that's fine, because there's somebody who doesn't like everyone!

I'd like to thank my third grade teacher, who made me write the phrase "I will not make loud, obnoxious, farting noise in class"
10,532 time on the chalkboard. It has helped me so much in my writing skills. Finally, I'd like to that God and Mark Burnet. (MB just thinks he is God) for creating the LAMEST.SHOW.EVER. If it wasn't for this pile of idiocy, I would have spent the last couple of years on the net trying to find a bargain on Ebay....

It looks like the TAR3 schedule is pretty full, but there are lots of other shows out there ... (personally, I think we need summaries of Push, Nevada ... The Bachelorette ... The Osbournes 2 (ooh, do I hate Ozzie and Sharon!) ... etc.; you could do one episode of any of them ).

Most of the people in this thread have either previously summarized Survivor, The Amazing Race, The Mole 2, or Big Brother 3 -- but those shows are either complete or fully scheduled. (Surprisingly, there aren't any of the summarizers from Temptation Island 2 here, although Canada Girl, who did two episodes of that show, has signed up for a The Amazing Race 3 summary.) We're going to schedule summaries for Push, Nevada this week. This show could be awful enough (or, perhaps, clever enough) that the summaries will be great fun, and it might provide a good opportunity for new people to join the "summary team" in time for S6. If enough people are interested, we'll schedule summaries for The Bachelorette -- look at the thread on The Bachelor in the "Other Shows Forum" for links to Jill Jensen's hilarious summaries of that show (on another site). Or ... you can always summarize some episodic reality show on your own! SurvivinDawg did an entire series of summaries of Combat Missions last year, and I (at least) loved them. Jonnycumlately did a series of summaries of Bachelorettes in Alaska, and I liked them so much that I summarized the last episode in his place when he was AWOL. Yeah, sometimes not many people read these summaries (as Dawg notes above), but they can really be fun to write ... and read. Note that we started doing summaries of The Amazing Race because one poster -- Pendragon -- decided that he wanted to write a couple of them ... and then we kept it alive after he stopped thanks to the efforts of many different posters, so you never know what your actions might trigger. Edited because I left out s_man's second question: >PS - how, oh how, can I make this guy smaller? There are several people here who can resize an oversize image. Normally IceCat would be happy to do it for you, but he's on vacation. But I hope one of the others will reply...

It--the Show--has generated so much interest, that if ABC doesn't mess it up next season, they're will likely be more forums. Btw, I agree with SherpaDave's idea of rotating the summaries; it's a lot more interesting, and fun that way.
