We open up with the usual flashing and woo-ing.The remaining Idols group-sing "All I Ask of You" with Andrew Lloyd Webber at the piano. They sing it fairly straighforward, inoffensive. ALW looks a little distracted or maybe he's just trying to block this memory before it sets in.

Recap time.Randy thinks what he always thinks - it's gotten tough, someone good has to go, blah blah. We see racaps of Sayesha, Jason, Brooke's fumble and recovery. Interview with Andrew Lloyd Webber, who talks about working with the Idols. It's really a great interview. He talks about performance habits, and song choices. He pulls no punches. He thought Brooke was much better in rehearsal. He was floored by Jason's choice of "Memory". I think someone needs to send ALW an invitation to join us here. If ALW were to write a song for Simon and Paula, it would be called: "How Can I Say I Miss You if you Won't Go Away."

The Ford commercial, done in the style of a graphic novel with drawings mixed with live action. The Idols are dressed in sort of dark angry big-hair 80's dress and makeup.George W. and Laura Bush brawk brawk about Idol Gives Back. the segway from that to a "pair of stools" could not have been intentional. If it was, I suddenly have more respect for whoever does the segment planning on Idol We are introduced to a pair of stools. The Davids are brought out. Lots of screaming from the ladies in the mosh pit. Recap judges comments for Cook, then Archuleta. Simon is asked about Archie and he's caught in the middle of eating something. David Cook tongue-bathes Andrew Lloyd Webber and says that he was being unpredictable by singing the song the way it was written. Archie talks a lot and says nothing. Who dressed David Archuleta? Both Davids are safe.

Let's visit some Idol Alums.Diana DeGarmo, Fantasia, LaKisha all have their names in lights on Broadway. Idol is a fertile field for the Broadway shows to nab some talent. We visit with Tamyra who is in "Rent" now. Clay is in "Spamalot" and we get to see him in odd hair and clothes. Nothing to see here. . . He is learning about acting and dancing. Okay, now I find out who Leona Lewis is. Simon discovered her, and how she's the #1 biggest best most super fantastic foo in the whole wide world. (I guess I'm just a big loser, not having heard of her.) She is singing. Paula is dancing. I'm watching and eating a little pineapple upside down cake. I think I win. The mosh pit is particularly screamey tonight. Now, a gear shift. Sayesha and Brooke are called out. Judges comments recap. Screamey scream. Sayesha had fun and was just being herself and having fun and being herself and having fun. I'm glad she had fun. And was herself. Brooke is of course asked about her gaffe. She decided to shut her mouth during the judging because she has interrupted them in the past. Okie dokie. Brooke is safe. She looks surprised. Sayesha looks a little surprised, too. Paula says that she things that every one of them has a ginormous fan base and that Sayesha should be proud to be on the stool.

Jason shrugs and grins and says he doesn't want to sing "Memory" again. Jason is safe. Carly to the stooooooooooool.

Carly sings her song again. She does a better job getting the words right tonight. She hauls out the old furrowed brow at the end, there. Will it be the last time we see it? Ha! She says to Simon that "hey, I remembered all the words!" Sayesha next. To me, she doesn't have the same confidence and personality as she did last night. Maybe she needs the power of her slinky red dress to bring out that side of her personality. (To my ear, she's a little off key, too.) I'll just take this opportunity to say that I don't agree with this bottom two, but I'm not surprised by it.

Possibly if there are enough people out there who actually know what the song is about they may have held it against her for singing it like a giggling dufus. It's not a happy song. Judas is angree and pleading. I don't think anyone comfortable with the story of Jesus is uncomfortable Superstar; everyone with a mind sometimes questions their beliefs.

I really thought Carly would come in third in this competition, too. I had her up there with the 2 David's. Not by choice, do I have David A, coming in 2nd, but you have to admit the kid IS very popular with the little girls!Still crossing my fingers for David C to be the big winner. BUT, I don't get why Brooke can get away with so much fatalities in her music and STILL remain!! It's like last season's DWTS all over again and Marie Osmond. The Mormon community must be voting their little fingers off for her. It's certainly NOT the talent aspect, or CHARM, that is keeping her in this competition! IMHO, anyway. WHATEVER!!! What a frustrating vote off!! DANG!

Syesha says she was doing well on perf night because she could be someone else. What happens when she has to be Syesha again? Neil Diamond week--everyone vote for their fav song. Syesha prob goes next week ...but top 5...sounds good for her resume to get to Broadway. So, no bottom 3 this week?

LAST EDITED ON 04-24-08 AT 09:36 AM (EST)I think song choice is why Carly got booted. Many, many Christians have a knee-jerk reaction against anything "Jesus Christ Superstar" because they feel it is sacreligious. They may or may not be right, but that is subjective. It's how they feel. The song choice even bothered me (and I'm Jewish!). Bottom line is, you wouldn't want to come across as dissing Mohammed in a Muslim country - and in like manner, anything that might come across as dissing Jesus in the US of A is bound to get you shown the door.

>I think you are 90% wrong, >here's why. It ain't anti-Jesus. > As Boner stated above, >it's Judas singing, and questioning >and pleading for answers to >things that have been bothering >him. All Christians go >through that at one time >or another and understand that. > It's faith that gets >you through it. The >only reason I held it >against her was because she >sang it completely wrong and >did a bad job. > >Of course, there is that other >10% who may have not >voted for the reason you >mentioned, but something tells me >that they were never in >the Carly camp to begin >with, and probably put Brooke's >number on their speed dial >all ready. Here's the thing. I've spent the last hour watching songs from JCS. I now realize that it's not an anti-Jesus thing, and in fact is trying to show the humanity of the man. However, growing up in a traditional Christian home - that's not the message you're given. You're told that the musical is sacreligous, period. And you never even give it a chance because of your preconceived notions.
My point is, for those people who grew up believing that the musical was blasphemous - they were not going to vote for the song/artist. And they sure as heck wouldn't be researching it to see if their existing notions were right or wrong. One other thing. The whole tattoo thing was also offputting to some and I think affected her fanbase. There's such a thing as preference and prejudice. IT's prejudice if you feel negatively about someone with a birthmark. It's preference if you feel that way about someone with a tattoo, because that was a personal choice they made. That whole sleeve tattoo weirded me out (not to mention her husband's face!). Those were choices the two of them made. If it lost her fans, so be it. There are consequences - good and bad - for our actions. Being held accountable for our choices does not make the person choosing NOT to vote for someone based on the choices they have made, prejudiced.

See I totally don't get your point at all. I was a kid when the movie came out, and where I was living it was seen as a modern retelling of the story of Christ to appeal to teens and young adults. I've never heard of the fiilm called "sacrilegious". I know there were differeing opinions about Mary Magdalene's story, but that was about it. Where I lived it was embraced by the religious community for enticing young people back into the church. Now The Last Temptation of Christ was a totally different story.

I agree with Tarmaq. I think there are segments of Christians who find that song offputting. A friend told me today that Baptists were told not to listen to it and the whole play was considered by some to be sacrilegious. I grew up Presbyterian and we played the music a lot when it came out so I guess it depends on which branch of religion you grew up with.I wonder why she chose that song out of all the ALW works. Sheesh Carly. Almost like she wanted to get booted. I think her song choices have not helped her much all season. I question her getting a record deal after the spectacular failure of the first one. Would it sell in the UK? I do see her getting to be on Broadway or the equivalent in London. Syesha, too. I caught a snippet of Idol Tonight--the one with Justin G on it and Lakisha was on, said she was on Broadway with Fantasia in the Color Purple, and had recently bought a house and a car. LaKisha she looked really happy and very pleased with her post AI success. I did not catch all of it so I don't know if she is doing an album or not.
