Please keep all discussions of tonight's show on this thread until after the West Coast dries their eyes from these young people spreading messages of inspiration to get our wallets pried open for tomorrow night's give-until-it-hurts-athon. Programming note 1: tomorrow night is Idol Gives Back: America Heaves. It starts at 7:30 pm and runs until 10 pm. We will have a results show on Thursday, opposite Survivor. Programming note 2: I will be on a business trip for the next two weeks. If I don't get on-line in time it may fall to others to get the thread started. I will also be in the wrong time zone to do play-by-play. No sig pics, remember sig pics on an ECST make the little children cry, or starve, or get diseases, or something. Don't give AI anymore heart-rending footage for Idol Gives Back.

It had some pitch problems and I don't buy you as Aerosmith. There are a lot of songs to choose says Randy after Michael talks back. This show is about being the best singer, not dreams. Paula. I couldn't disagree more. First of all I think it was a perfect song for you to pick and you sound as good as you look and the high notes you hit my chihuahuas will join you on stage. Simon. I thought it was a very good performance, where I am slightly with Randy. I don't like it when you do an impersonation of a rock star, a little bit wannabe. Paula chihuahuas at Simon for that comment.

Another Diva performance.Randy. Took on another tiger this week. Fantasia was great. She has a special connection I don't see with you. It was OK. You were singing it. And it is talk back to the judges night. He can only compare if you sing her song, she sang the living daylights out of it. Paula. Not many people can take on songs like that. You flipped it a little bit and made it all your own. This is one of your most shining lights. Simon. Of course there is going to be a comparison. Technically I think you sang it very well. What it lacked was that big big wave of emotion that I got with Fantasia. I want to find out who you are.

I read on another board that a friend posted on AI or the IDF boards that 1) Syesha would sing second (which she did) and 2) they TOLD HER to sing that song. If that's true, I understand why she pushed back with Randy. I hate this part of the competition, when the contestants start figuring out that AI is NOT fair and they are impacted by these manipulations. Wonder if she had song clearance issues or something and how long she had to learn the song. Anyway, it wasn't as good as Fantasia's and being second along with that song choice means they want you booted this week.

Loved this. I think (if I'm not mistaken) that this version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" was the ending song to the movie 50 First Dates. Love that movie, and I always cry when this song starts playing. Jason did it justice. I was distracted by the odd sequence of lyrics that he did, but I still liked it a lot. Plus, can he be any cuter?!?!?!

I hope she's safe though - I'd rather see her stay than Kristy, Carly & Syesha. How weird. In life, most of my favorite singers are women, but on AI, I usually like the guys ALOT more. Even with that, this year it's crazy-lopsided. I don't care about any of these women. And she looks so confused after that critique. Why?

so far 1st micheal performance good..but not a good song choice
2nd syesha sucked no emotion what so ever....needs to try something new quit with the fantasia ,whitney crap
3rd jason castro sucks ( he butchers a truly beautiful song)he looks like hes have to take a dump when he sings ( i true sign that hes struggling with the song)and i want to know why the judges say he rocked they did this last year hype the crappy guy sh** with sanjaya and he suck a**.
4th kristy cook not so bad but as what a shocker she did country....
5th david cook performance very good but the lack of people knowing the song could hurt....And i like him better with a quitar
6th Carly is truly one of the strongest sounding women they have ever had a good song choice and a very powerful presence on the stage....
7th david archuleta i still haven't made up my mind about this kid
on one had his voice sometimes is spot on but i am so tired of the glassy eyed insecure shy crap either its an act or not, but it needs to stop if he wants to be in this business. His performance tonight was good but i'm tired of this christian inspirational music crap he chooses i want him to challenge himself. then maybe i can make up my mind about him.
8th Brooke white not bad but i want to see more energetic music from her she is playing safe.
And on a final note paula needs to quit this nice crap and start being honest for once damn there feelings be truthfull for once

After last season's collective experience, a long, drawn out, torturous results show with no one sent home, and many givers' credit cards charged multiple times when they only pledged once, I will neveragain watch another "Idol Gives Back" show. Or, the next night's results show.

I heard about the multiple credit card charges a few weeks after last year's IGB show. That some of the givers' credit card statements showed multiple charges, to IGB, when they had only authorized one charge.
