Happy Beatles Night to snidget and the crew.I will be watching tonight's show 'DVR-delayed' because i have to go see my 4th grader sing at school tonight. Will there be similarities later on....? Pre-show predictions: * David A and Carly will get uber-praise from the judges
* David Cook will be a standout and will be the only one to creatively reinterpret a Beatles classic
* Jason will be nervous
* Simon will hate just about all of the performances
* Paula will ever-so-briefly flash us her "Drunk Paula" persona at least once. Other than that, in all seriousness, i hope Amanda picks up her game and chooses a good song for herself and Janis-sizes the heck out of it. We need her to stay in this. Who will forget their words tonight? Phil S blogged for Idol Chatter about the top 12 and explains why some performers forget their lyrics.

Here is a snippet: "Top 12 week last year was very interesting for a couple of reasons. First of all, it was out first theme week and the theme was "Songs of Diana Ross." There were somewhere around 300 songs to choose from, but 297 of them were girlie songs that us "men" didn't really feel comfortable performing. This made song selection a bit of a challenge, since there were six guys still in the competition. Chris Sligh requested the song I'm Gonna Make You Love Me, but was denied because it wasn't on the list, so he chose one of the only songs available that a guy sang on, Endless Love. Since Sligh had requested the song, Idol ran his first song pick for clearance without his knowledge, and it came back as cleared just hours before we met Ms. Ross. Sligh had already made an arrangement for Endless Love, so he suggested I take the one that had just cleared, I'm Gonna Make You Love Me. I figured it would be more comfortable for me to sing a song that Michael McDonald had recorded, rather than the one I had chosen, Someday, We'll Be Together, so I chose to perform I'm Gonna Make You Love Me instead. The second challenge was recording the MP3s of the full versions of each song for Internet sales. The Monday night before Tuesday's live recording, each of us recorded the full version of the songs we sang on the live broadcast, which made remembering the lyrics we used in our shorter versions a challenge. Probably half of us actually forgot our lyrics during the live performance, but only two were noticed by the judges and viewing audience. One of those two was eliminated that week, which was unfortunate since Brandon Rogers was one of the greatest talents discovered last season. "

Two spoilers for tonight from MJ's Big Blog:1) David A is supposed to sing the Stevie Wonder version of "We can work it out" complete with a string section to back him up. Who knew you had the falsetto. You smashed it. Paula. This is exactly when Ryan says what should they do take the risk, you started with a Oh brother where art thou then going into a rock vibe. I've been waiting for this. Simon. I'm really surprised that I actually agree with these two. What I loved, other than you looked completely drunk, unlike the first singer you have changed you took control over the stage, a unique version and I thought you were terrific.

Very slow pacing to start. Violins in the background. Stays slow, big note at end. Randy. It was kind of pretty but pretty boring, waited for something special or interesting, just laid there for me didn't move the earth. Paula You look lovely tonight. It was pretty safe. You are an amazing singer, and you can go many places with your voice you seem to be holding back. Simon. Bored to tears throughout the song. From the awful standing on the stairs with the dreary song choice that did nothing for you. Forgettable and I expect a lot better from you.

Hippified version of it. Kinda soft on the high notes, like not enough support for them.Is that a mosh pitter seal clapping or Paula? It's the mosh pit. Randy. I liked it, didn't love it. One of my favorite songs, you need to give it more of a heartfelt thing, the switches in the melody I tuned out. Paula. Disagree with Randy. What is so special and unique is I feel your heart and such a special connection that makes you unique and you don't do all the riffs and runs and you don't have to as you have an emotional connection with the song. Simon. How do you know there was an emotional connection (randy says she felt it) It was all a little bit student in a bedroom at midnight. The song was quite boring. Very unique, but will he make the same impact this week, no. You need to choose brilliant songs, good enough to stay another week, but not as good as last week.

I liked that. Randy. I don't know if it is your strongest. I like seeing you sit at home practicing it. This is like a dream come true. I love the fact you have all this convection you take it and you gave a very heartfelt performance. The Dawg is a fan. Paula. This is your niche songs where we can feel your heart. The connection that makes people love you. Simon. I thought one of the best performances of the night. Brilliant choice of song. It's believable. There is a difference between karaoke and showcasing your talent. You've done it three weeks running.

I think that I actually for the first time ever...really like 3 contestants! Really! I think it is because they are musicians and just seem more real and not so, so...American Idolish. I thought Brooke, Jason and David Cook were fantastic tonight. Helps that the songs are the best too. Chikezie certainly suprised me as well but he is just not in their plane. They may not be technically the best but I honestly would listen to a song by them on the radio. I think them being real musicians shows through.

But, you're missing one key point. i think David A. has ALL the young girls and grandmas, and as much as i make fun at him for being 'The Chosen One' and 'The Golden Child', I honestly believe it to be true. Even with the horrid performance he gave last night, there isn't a channce in heck that he is going home tonight. I honestly believe that he could have a string of bad performances, and still make it to the final two, and probably be the winner. If you honestly put David A up against a David Cook or a Brooke, there is no comparison when it comes to interpretive skills and creativity and vocals. They outshine him by a mile. This really irritates me to have someone stand out SO MUCH, and a huge factor for him is his age and "good looks" and NOT his singing ability. But that is what you get when you leave it up t America and everyone can sit and dial/text thousands of times. Its Jordin Sparks all over again. geekboy

Absolutely, Snidget...you rock!!! Thank you for all your hard work each week. It is always a great reference on the show. For example, I want to look back and see how they blistered people in the past who forgot lyrics, like Gedeom...and I don't think they were half as tough on David as they were on Gedeon. Didn't G get a major lecture about top 12 and all when he forgot them? The pimping is soooo obvious. I am glad I like several people this year so that I am not hung up on who is not getting the pimpage.
