LAST EDITED ON 07-30-03 AT 12:28 PM (EST)Alright, since we're all giving critiques, here goes...
Ralphie: Subject matter notwithstanding, I thought he was the best of an unoriginal bunch. I recognized the humor in his routine, just didn't make me laugh...much (you know how we libruls are a humorless lot). Don't know if I would've gone political in a contest, but I think he'll win.
Dat: Fell flat on his face. His inexperience really showed. His delivery was too fast and too choppy, and the material was not-so-great (except for the Vietnam Vet dad bit, which had potential). I think he has potential as a comic. He just needs a lot more practice.
Tess: Predictable. She got a chuckle or two out of me, but I've seen her routine before, and it doesn't change much.
Rich: Even more predictable. You know what's bad? When you know what the punchline is going to be before it's delivered. I knew the punchlines to his jokes after the first sentence of each bit. Just bad.
Cory: Not bad, not great. Also felt her delivery and the set-ups for her jokes weren't so good. Very anti-climactic.
Overall I think that I've just seen too much of these people. It's like listening to a comedy tape for the 10th time. You know what all the jokes are, so you smile and nod and think "Oh yeah, that person made me laugh once". The person I really missed in this format is Rob. His humor is so out-of-left-field that it doesn't get stale. Too bad we got him so early in his career. I think if we had gotten him after he'd been doing it for 8 or 9 years, he would've won. Well, at least he would've won my vote.
I still think Dave was the funniest.
