"Ep 2 from a marketing standpoint" |
Survivor is losing in the ratings. How does MB get it back to life? If you're a detective that can never solve the case, are you going to want to continue as a detective? Of course not. Same as spoilers go. A lot of people who are into spoiling/speculating, or just plain figuring out who gets booted have been getting bored because the bootees have been so hidden that there was no way to possibly spoil or guess many of them last season. So, why keep trying...Also for regular viewers, same thing. With too much misdirection and lack of emotional response for who is getting booted, people get bored with the show... So, how do you get viewers back if you are MB. Give the spoilers something they can spoil. The regulars at these sites are MB's "word of mouth" advertising, that get others to watch the show. And for the regular audience, give them a bootee they want to get booted. Who watching last week doesn't want to see Kathy get the boot...Give them what they want and they'll keep coming back for more... To the regular viewer, Kathy's story line is done...so get rid of her...

>And for the regular audience, give >them a bootee they want >to get booted. I agree with your point that the regular viewer would approve of a Kathy boot. However, with last week's preview, Patricia was also set up as an appealing boot. During that show, she was shown pleading her case, and viewers were rooting for her to stay instead of weird Peter. Showing her speech allowed the viewer to see keeping her as a reasonable decision. But in the preview, she's not shown favorably. I mean, cmon, a tool tree??? The preview gives evidence as to why the tribe would let her go, after the show had given evidence why they had let he stay the first time around. I do think we were narrowed down quite well to two choices, either of which would be satisfying to the regular viewer.
