Story here.

Heh, there's a casino in Mount Pleasant if she gets any money from ABC she should see if she can double it.

I didn't read the story but I can see how it would happen. Other reality shows (Like American Idol) give the numbers in the order the contestants went. If it changed the next week, then the numbers changed.

DwtS didn't do that. They kept the same numbers. If viewers didn't catch that, then they'd instinctively call the order. For instance, Alec and Kelly were 0004. Last night's show would make a viewer think there's be no need for a 0004. That they're just supposed to call 0001 or 0002.

See where the confusion can come in?

you would have seen the problem is 866 vs. 888 numbers.

So no I don't see where the order of performing confusion would come in.

Sandra, that's not the controversy in this case. The controversy is that people are using the first three digits and calling an answering service instead of voting. Since companies are charged for the number of calls they get on their toll-free lines, this means that the answering service is getting a huge phone bill because of dialer error.

The more appropriate parallel is with the American Idol situation where voters were getting charged for calls. An unscrupulous company set up numbers similar to the AI voting numbers, but they made sure the callers got charged for them. That's why Ryan Seacrest would emphasize the beginning of the phone number when giving the numbers.

Breezy, SO sorry. I was in a hurry and only had time to scan things. That's why I didn't read the story.

Bebo, thank you for politely explaining the situation. I really appreciate it. That's a shame that something as simple as that can create problems. Now that the show is almost over, there's no point in Lisa and Tom explaining it. Unless they are going to extend it and bring the other dancers back to get it right? I doubt it though.

Again, thank you.

Sandy

But it did all work out in the end. The only situation that they know about is people misdialing John O'Hurley's number...and since he made the final, it obviously didn't hurt him in the competition.
