Phil's fan base has been impressive. Now they know he was almost booted--will that galvanize them any more than they have been already?Out of the 7 remaining, Lakisha will probably struggle with a country song. Next week bottom 3 pre performance prediction: Phil, Lakisha, and Chris R.. Lakisha is the "suprise" boot. And suddenly we have 4 guys and 2 girls left? Hmmm -- have to rethink this. Maybe it is Phil next week after all.

Country's an interesting theme, because outside of Mandisa, it has eliminated weak singers for that stage of the competition (Julia Demato, Matt Rogers, and Anthony Federov). Basically, it doesn't bode well for smaller voices and people who have been in trouble in prior episodes for voting. That doesn't bode well for Phil on the votes level, or any other guys other than him on the strength of voice. Typically, that would be good for Lakisha as she is in a gender minority, she has a big voice, and she hasn't been in "official" voting danger. However, The Top 7 has been less than friendly to quality singers in the past. Ace was a justified elimination (I thought it should have been Pickler and I think a lot of people started to think Yamin was going home), and Ryan Starr never struck me as amazing. Kimberly Caldwell probably went around the right time though. However, Seasons Three and Four have provided relatively shocking eliminations at this point. Jennifer Hudson (!) went home in this stage with a diva filled Bottom Three, and with this season being a lot like Season Three, I think this could be a repeat shocker next week. The huge difference there is that it was a 5-2 girls majority, and it's a 4-3 male majority now. In Season 4, Anwar went him in this stage over Scott Savol, Anthony Federov, and Constantine Maroulis, three less talented vocalists. So, next week, it's wide open. I think Blake is safe, Melinda's safe. ANYONE else can go home, including Jordin and Sanjaya.

That's exactly what they want. IMO they want Sanj in the top 4, creating at least one shocking boot of a diva. It's about ratings and Sanj's post AI career. They are already counting the $$ from the cd's, posters, etc. that they will sell the tweens and teens. I wonder what products he will get to hawk after idol. Shampoo? Toothpaste?
