Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, Fiends and Fools, it is once again time for sig-pic free discussion of tonight's Tony Bennet inspired evening of entertainment to be contained on this thread until after the West Coast finishes giggling over what Sanjaya did to his hair this week.Will The Donald sue him for stealing the nickname "The Hair"? Maybe if they let Sanjaya host The Apprentice they will actually have something approaching ratings, again. Song Spoilers were posted, but the ones considered "legit" are still unposted, if I see them before class I'll put them on the Song Spoiler Thread. Once again I will be dashing in a bit late, so if someone wants to try their hand at hosting just make sure there is a post with the singer's name in the Subject line. I can always fill in from Tivo later if need be. Tonights episode is reported to be only the regular 60 minutes in length, but it's live so I wouldn't be shocked if it runs over DWTS start time of 9 by just a widdle bit.

ETA: the distance thing they were talking about is because he was in "voice land" -- thinking more about sounding a particular way (Jack Jones) than about the song itself.

is that a subtle warning that it was inappropriate to even mention that here?I think at least half of my problem with all this is that I'm a journalist, so I place a great value in public discourse on things, and free speech and the mutual exchange of ideas and all that. So I can't understand why issues that affect the entire community must be discussed only in private. from experience with message boards I know that for every person who expresses an idea or concern, there are a large number of lurkers or more introspective types who feel/think the same thing, and are happy someone spoke up. this one really doesn't make sense to me. and if I don't get it, I imagine a lot of other people don't get it either. what's the point of me privately finding out the answer, when the great hordes still just see a mystery? as I said. it's my grounding in journalism that really colors how I see this. I guess I'm doing some reporting here. trying to find answers for the public.
oh and for the record, in case it's not clear.
My original post wasn't to ask this question.
I only mentioned it because I really wanted to continue that discussion about Melinda, and had to come here instead to do it. I'd noticed earlier in the evening that the thread was locked, and didn't plan to say anything. But then when I tried to remember where this conversation had been happening, so I could continue it, I realized that's where it was .....

I'll be honest, at this point, I look forward to Sanjaya more than anyone anymore. Not because I don't like Idol. I actually do. I like good singers (McPhee was my muse last year, but I loved Taylor too).
