"Tripping the Rift"
This vulgar sexy soft-porn cheeky and raunchy Internet short film (go ahead and Google it) is now coming out as a TV series! Unreal! I don't know how they're going to pull it off.

The first 217 times I saw the ad for this show I couldn't wait to mute the sound. Now I'm starting to think it looks kind of cute! I've stopped muting the sound. I may even watch it. It's on kind of late so I hope it's good & raunchy, because if I'm going to stay up that late I want to be raunched.

Long live King Richard!

I don't believe that the whole raunch thing is going to be a problem. Well, check out the site and you will see its pretty much nutters. For example, this is from the "interview" with Six:

Although Six is now back on the set instead of set on her back, she isn't afraid of anyone challenging her record. "I did sixty thousand a year without breaking a sweat," she boasts, "I could have done more, but my programming instructs me to let my partners enjoy themselves and not coax them to finish too quickly. I give all my partners at least ten minutes, but I could finish them in less than one if I wanted to."

I missed it, dang it. Down with the flu. Did anyone see it last night? How was it? The commercials make it look like a hoot. Glad to see it will be replayed on Saturday.

I happened to be by the TV and saw it twice and you know what my fave part is about the show? Its watching what all the other aliens are doing in the background of each scene. I think that's my fave part. Aside from that, I like Chode quite a lot and really think the cast only needs Gus, Chode, and Six, and Bob. Whip and Tnuk really didn't have their freak on just yet... they truly are a posse of what was it: #####, whore, whimp, slacker, thief. Perfect.

I actually set the vcr up to record it last night (Saturday) and am glad I did. I absolutely loved it and laughed so hard at numerous parts. I'm planning on taping every one of them now. I give it 2 thumbs up. Almost as good as South Park.

I guess it helps if you know the whole history behind it but the thing I like most about it is that the creators have kept total control and are not afraid to play around current events or controversial topics. They refuse to allow the broadcasters to tell them what they can and cannot do and that is freedaom of expression at its finest. I admire their willingness to stand up for what they created and not cow down to pressure.

Besides, it's just plain funny.

13. "Sure!"
I would love to share with you. So now that it is story time, grab a pillow and get comfortable. Ready? Ok then....

Two friends, Trey Parker and Matt Stone (who I believe is related to Oliver) with very creative minds, are shooting the breeze, I imagine, in a Beavis and Butthead fashion and decide to do some "animation" of there own with nothing more than scissors, glue and construction paper.

And so it started out, in the very beginning, as just a simple little Christmas card for family and friends (my house mate at the time was one of the relatives) and that was all it was meant to be, just a simple little holiday greeting.

But, as all urban legends tend to go, it was shared with other people. Alot of other people. It made it's way into the hands of the right Hollywood types and before you know it Trey and Matt are approached by a producer who not only sees how funny it is but how great (not to mention lucrative)the concept of a series would be.

Trey and Matt are flabergasted to say the least by the offer of course but they know a brainchild when they see one. They don't want it "animated", nor do they want to change anything about what grabbed the right people in the first place, and don't have the resources to put a pilot episode together in that fashion anyway. This was back before the computer software we have at our disposal today existed mind you. So they sit down with their construction paper, scissors and glue and and cut and paste lots of little Cartmans and Kennys and the rest of the cast of characters to create enough "boards" to shoot a pilot.

This is where they learn the process of animating it for film requires taking a shot of each and every movement of its characters so there are a lot of Cartmans and Kennys to be cut and pasted. It was quite some time in the making. But made it finally was and they had not only cut out each of the characters to that end but had also written the story of what was going on in those pictures.

Now Trey and Matt are good , down-home kinda guys with a very colorful vocabulary to say the least (Trey more so)and so of course there is some, well ok, quite a bit of cussing in the story for 8 year old kids (the characters, not Trey and Matt) which the network people take issue with. Trey and Matt don't really care one way or the other if it gets produced or not, thinking it would never go anywhere beyond the pilot anyway and are not about to compromise to a bunch of network big brother type bluebloods and be told they have to change any of what they have done.

You've got to give them credit here since they spent all those months with construction paper and scissors for not cowing down for cash. Nope, these boys are sticking to their guns and saying if you don't like it, too bad but we aren't changing anything. The studio executives see the potential future revenue in the show and cow down to Trey and Matt and use the pilot but bleep out the cuss words when it is aired. They bleeped alot in those first episodes. But I digress.

Trey and Matt have check in hands and figure that once it airs that will pretty much be the end of it. How could they know it would be just the kind of fresh new show that people were looking for after all? The market research done before it aired had not given it great reviews after all and Trey and Matt, who thought it was pre-viewed by a group of 50 year old housewives from Conneticut, couldn't have gotten good reviews from them, the cussing notwithstanding.

But air, it did, and was watched by a good segment of the population. The studio came back and asked for 15 more shows for the first season. That's alot of construction paper and glue. The studio recommends computer generated graphics to cut the timeframe down. Nope, not gonna happen since Trey and Matt are unwilling, and rightfully so, to change the look of their creation. Go boys go! (personal sentiment here) Being the "hip" young men that they are, they are also up on current events and wish to comment on such topics in the story lines. And they are not going to take no for an answer.

NOT THE END OF the story, by any stretch of the imagination but Woe is out of time for the moment so will have to do installment 2 at a later time if you wish her to continue?

And a personal note to JROME: When you quote someone in a response, be sure to delete the signature picture and lines so that it doesn't appear as if they (whoever you are quoting) are posting it, if you wouldn't mind please? It has caused problems in the past. Thank you.

Thank you so much for hooking me up with all that arcana! Its so nice to see when folks like them can take their passions and find both a market and money with which to make it happen. Funny stuff and what is it -- eight years later? 8 seasons?

16. "Part 2"
Since you asked Jrome and thanks for everything, including encouraging my behavior. Forgive me for not being in my normal witty form tonight. But I felt I owed you after making you wait so long.

Ok, where was I? Oh yeah, Trey and Matt have been given a huge bullhorn to say what they want and what many people would love to say but fail to. They soon realize the advantage of some animation to speed up the process of getting their feelings out to the public. And start wearing T-shirts with a checkmark followed by a minus symbol. Kinda like almost satisfactory but not quite making the mark. But they stick to their guns on the contents even if they do animate parts of it. It makes it so much easier to make them look like they are talking that way, don'tcha know?

And in the process of speeding up the production time, though still way slower than a normal "all" animated show, it allows them to get to current topics in a more timely fashion. For instance the word sh!t. How many times can they get away with saying it in one show? I believe it was 173 times. Have you seen this episode? And, of course, there is the perpetual killing of Kenny from very early on. Can you kill a kid and bring them back over and over again and get away with it? All the other cartoons do it, maybe not with people but still.....Well, Trey and Matt can get away with it and thereby test the limits of what they can get away with.

The whole thing has been so, really. Testing limits and getting their point of view out there. And they did watch Beavis and Butthead at one time which also stretched the limits, much as the Simpsons did. Only they want to take it further.

And since the show is in a good ratings place, how can anyone tell them no? So they continually push the envelope and poke fun at the publics' sensitivities and world leaders on a regular basis. Then they are picked up by Comedy Central and there is a whole lot more that one can get away with on cable. Oh yes. And their loyal viewers, of which there are many, follow them as well as the people who already watch cable but not regular programming on a normal basis. And here we all are so many years later, Trey and Matt still pushing it, still using their mouthpiece to shout out and entertain us all.

I know I am missing stuff but little Woe is tired and laughed herself silly at a party earlier so this is the best I can do for you tonight. I'll get back to you and fill in the blanks later when I can think, okay?

yeah I kind of gathered the show's creators stick to their guns simply because of how raunchy the show is. Its good they do that though becasue it really is a good show and wouldn't work if they watered it down.
