PLEASE NOTE: The Reality TV World Message Boards are filled with desperate
attention-seekers pretending to be one big happy PG/PG13-rated family. Don't
be fooled. Trying to get everyone to agree with you is like herding cats,
but intolerance for other viewpoints is NOT welcome and respect for other
posters IS required at all times. Jump in and play, and you'll soon find out
how easy it is to fit in, but save your drama for your mama. All members are
encouraged to read the
complete guidelines.
As entertainment critic Roger
Ebert once said, "If you disagree with something I write, tell me so, argue
with me, correct me--but don't tell me to shut up. That's not the American way."

Is it just me, or does anyone else have a bad feeling tonight that Chris may be leaving instead of Kat?I can't explain it...just a bad feeling. I hope i'm wrong. Also, next week is the Clive Davis week, where they sing 3 songs. One the contestants choice, one the judges choice, and one choice by Clive himself. geekboy

I thought Elliot was way better than Chris was last night. I didn't care for Taylor's first song, but he was great on his second. I thought Chris was boring last night. Kat should go tonight in my book.

Medley of Elvis songs. Elliott starts with 'Teddy Bear', sounds amazingly like The King himself. Group sing 'Blue Suede Shoes'. Taylor, 'Heartbreak Hotel' solo. Katherine, 'Are You Lonesome' solo (she should have sung that last night, sounds nice). The guys join her on chorus. Chris, 'Love Me Tender' solo, others humming backup. Group sing, I should know the song title but don't. Taylor rocking out 'Burning Love', Katherine has a bridge, Elliott and Chris join. Not bad. Enjoyable. Okay, get on with it.

LAST EDITED ON 05-10-06 AT 10:21 PM (EST)I personally love it. Not so much because I don't like Chris' performances, just the idea that the line to kiss Chris' ##### was three judges long on a weekly basis as long as he didn't do hard rock. And some of the fans that aren't here are crazy too. Paula's reaction was priceless. Almost as good as the Constantine elimination. My personal favorite topic title on the official forums? "THIS IS THE NEXT SADDEST DAY AFTER 9/11" Granted, the response by everyone was that this person needs a psychologist, but still.

Who is bottom group, Taylor-Elliott or Chris-Katherine?Taylor and Elliott are safe. Chris and Katherine are bottom two. Who goes home tonight? Ryan asks Simon who he thinks is going home, he says Katherine based on last night. (Bear with me, I want to get this verbatim. *thud*) Ryan tells Chris and Katherine a lot of people predicted both of them could be in the finale. A lot of people predicted Chris that you could be the next American Idol. *screams from audience*. Chris, you are going home tonight, the journey ends. America, you have spoken and Chris is off the show tonight. Katherine is safe. Simon looks stunned and pensive. *thud* Chris is in shock, obligatory retrospective.

Glowie, you were right, I'm pissed off he didn't win..I wanted to just go thru my tv and hug him... The only thing that makes it better is that he won't be so controlled on his CD Ok Taylor can win now VFTW Simon was right to be "pensive" he just lost a lot of money and he knows Chris is the best of the 4 Well I did what I could by voting this just really blows

Dialidol had them (Kat and Chris) practically neck and neck with Kat a little ahead of Chris. I had a theory about the text votes. I think young men are more likely to vote by text, and Katherine is probably a favorite with young men. It will be interesting to see how things break out now that Chris is leaving. Will Kat get Chris's voters, or will some of them resent her edging past him?

30. "RE: Seriously, Results This Time, I Swear " |
LAST EDITED ON 05-10-06 AT 09:36 PM (EST)When are the judges going to learn NOT to try to manipulate the America public aka voters? I think that a lot of people felt Kat got an unfair deal last night. (How many would have been up in arms if they made each male contestant sing two Barbra Streisand songs?) And by the remarks the judges made, they put her in the "underdog" position. So here's what I think happened. Chris seemed "untouchable" because he has been the judges #1 pick all along. Besides, he has struck quite a few as "boring" lately. So his votes declined overall. I think Elliot picked up quite a few of Chris' votes, because people thought he would need them more. And others responded to the fact that Kat was the "underdog," so to speak. We don't like people to be treated unfairly. I actually voted for the first time this season, last night. For Kat. Maybe there were a lot of people like me. I hope it comes down to her and Taylor in the finals. Elliot is just "meh" for me. Taylor's got personality, as well as a cool voice when he's on the right song. Kat's got - well - there's just something about her. Tommy Mottola saw it. Andrea Bocelli and David Foster saw it. (And Andrea is blind!) She's got something. Not to mention, she's a beautiful girl, which can't hurt.

Here's the deal. Chris, Taylor *and* Elliot are all "niche" singers. Chris is a rocker, Elliot's a jazzy soulful singer, and Taylor is along the lines of the Grateful Dead. In addition, the looks of all three will appeal to only that niche market.Kat is the classic "pop" singer -- she can sing in all genres, and has a look that appeals to all. I think she's going to win it all. The three guys might have good singing careers due to their exposure on AI, but Kat is the only one to please all markets. I'm totally not surprised it was Chris who went tonight. Not everyone likes rock, especially as interpreted through Creed. That's not to say he's not talented, he just does not have enough diversity in his performances, or widespread appeal to attract the votes needed to win the show. He could've done the absolute BEST rock performance anyone'd ever seen week after week, and he'd still not win American Idol, because that's not what it's about. He should've gone on Rock Star. I don't think Taylor has the universal appeal, either. I predict he'll go next week. Elliot's voice is amazing, if you close your eyes. I think he'll make the finals with Kat because his voice is universally* appealing, along with hers, and she will win. That's my prediction. *Note special definition of "universal" -- universally appealing to those who will buy millions of the Idol winner's records.

yeah, I'm sure that if given the choice, record execs would leap at the chance to sign Elliott over Chris. sure they would.Elliott has a lovely voice--for big band standards or a nice classics album or maybe some jazz or something. I don't really know because he makes me want to take a nap. He be a "good" singer, but he is snoozville as an entertainer. Elliott in a video? Elliott in concert? Elliott posters? *boggle* This is American IDOL, not America's Best Singer. Elliott is no more consistent than Katherine. He was just crappy (albeit not as crappy as the others who were booted off) in the beginning and she's been stumbly at the end. He has YET to have a WOW performance a la her Black Horse and the Cherry Tree moment or show that he has any sort of personality. He'll have to break out with something ASAP or he's a goner next week because Katherine and God, help me, Taylor, will smoke him in that department.

Without a doubt, Elliot and Kat are the most marketable by FAR of the bunch left. Taylor and Chris will only appeal to segments of the market at their best. Those who like Michael McDonald and Creed, respectively, will buy their records. That's not a negligible segment, but it's certainly NOT American Idol territory. As to Elliot, while looks might matter if you are selling to the teen market, the adult and world market don't care. He's got a great voice, and will make awesome records. And Kat, mark my words, Kat will be bigger than Kelly Clarkson. She has some MAJOR growing up to do, and needs some very good coaching and management, but I think she will end up being a star along the lines of Mariah or Whitney Houston. In fact, I think she will end up being the biggest star this show has produced.

you're right. don't think elliot will win.kat shoul win despite lack of talent. she is young and absolutely freaking gorgeous. many holywwod stars pale in comparison. kat can be as successful as kelly and carrie.(the latter btw is just untalented as kat). i'm not sure Kat's Black Horse.. was a wow performance. The song just sounded cool and different. but there was really nothing special about it. as for taylor, he is too old or at least he looks too old to win. plus his voice is not strong enough.

IMHO Katherine (reference the post below) looks like a young Jaclyn Smith (from back in Charlie's Angels days.) I personally feel she is immature, even by comparison to the younger girls, Paris and Lisa... and have to agree with Simon... of late she has been a bit "over the edge--trying just a little too hard... It isn't becoming to her. She's done that the last two or three weeks. It comes across sort of 'desperate'. I'm really sorry to see Chris was the one to go tonight. I feel it should have been Katherine... I don't think there was anyone MORE shocked than she was, because she knew she should be the one... after the performances she gavethis past Tuesday night. > >kat shoul win despite lack of >talent. she is young and >absolutely freaking gorgeous. many holywwod >stars pale in comparison.

LAST EDITED ON 05-11-06 AT 02:59 PM (EST)>sorry kim, it's too early to >tell what will happen to >fantasia or reuben. it took >4 years for kelly to >resurface from her ai win. Kelly won AI 1 in the summer of 2002. Her first album (Thankful) went double platinum and was among the top 20 albums in 2003. Her second album (Breakaway) came out in 2004, has now sold about 5 million copies, far and away the largest of any ex-idol (Carrie's Some Hearts has just passed Clay's Measure of a Man for #2), and is still #30 after 75 weeks in the Billboard 200. Where's the 4-year gap? Reuben Studdard returned to his gospel roots for his second album. It had sales like a gospel album -- meaning that the AI "buzz" is gone. And Fantasia who?

LaToya also has a new album coming out. Josh Gracin and Miranda Lambert (who?) are both in the top 50 of the Country chart. they may not be making the charts like Kelly and Carrie, but they aren't forgotten, any more than winners Ruben and Fantasia are forgotten, but not heard from mainstream. Chris will be fine. Miranda Lambert was on Nashville Star -- she turned out to be shockingly talented. "Shockingly," because she was billed as an 18-year-old actress on NS but turned out to be a gifted singer/songwriter (she wrote all the songs on her post-NS debut CD Kerosene). She's going to be a major star, but she has nothing to do with AI. And she finished third on Nashville Star. By contrast... Only 1 AI contestant who didn't finish in the top 2 has ever released a CD that went gold (sales of 500,000): Josh Gracin. His debut sold about 650,000. Next best? Kimberley Locke, at just over 200,000, edging out ... William Hung. Flops: Tamyra Gray, RJ Helton, George Huff, Jasmine Trias, Corey Clark, John Stevens. Sorry, Chris, but it doesn't look good. http://www.mtv.com/bands/a/american_idol/ai5_feature_060307/index.jhtml

That was a weird show.First, isn't it unprecedented to allow one of the four contestants to reprise his entire song in the results show--and to do it before the boot reveal (and not be the boot for the evening)? (don't get me wrong here, I missed the beginning of last night's show and didn't see Taylor do that number last night; and what's more, I like Taylor! Just saying....it seems unprecedented....) Next, what the heck? OMGoodness, Chris was the boot? Huh?
And talk about blown away! That was a rewind the tape moment. Maybe the gap was sooo big there was no way to comfortably manipulate it? Simon looked pissed! I need to rewatch the tape. Good office water cooler type of show, though. AI will get the big buzz they wanted, that's for sure.

As I have said since season 1.. what the American public LIKES and MISTAKES FOR TALENT has nothing to do with people who actually have talentChris didnt deserve to go.. the girl needed to go and should have been voted off 2 or 3 weeks ago but clearly a pretty face and boobs are enough for people to keep her in.. she isnt stupid like Pickler so that also helped.. I hope Chris has good representation and he gets the chance to make a record and laugh all the way to the bank.. I hope the winner is Elliot but I have become so disinterested this season.. think the talent not as good as previous and the themes have really SUCKED!!! we will miss you Chris and go make a million bucks for your wife and kids!!

god, why do I bother with this stupid freaking show!!!!!!!!!!!!Oh, yes, I'm pissed. I liked the final four, but Chris is the only one who stood out as The American Idol of this year and I certainly don't see the other three stepping up. I hate these boots of good contestants after one bad voting week -- when will AI do something to fix that?? It sucks. I almost really could care less who wins now, as I don't see the final three doing anything interesting or noteworthy. What a major, major disappointment. I think a rocker will never win this show. Sure, they'll be another one next year, but really, will they come up with someone stronger, better than Chris? Highly doubtful.

If you are good AI gives you a showcase that could pump a career. I've heard it said that Paris and Kelly will have safe harbor if they get good advice and play their cards right. Chris should do well enough. Of the three remaining, Elliot probably needs the title most. He has a nice voice, displayed better than previously in his brief part tonight. His hair and stage presence have definately improved, but he still needs a lot of coaching to polish him for a career. Katherine has overcome her 'chubby girl' body shame and has the family support and public appreciation to leave now if it had been called that way, but I think she could benefit from being handled as AI. Taylor will probably go to the end, but I doubt it will do him as much good as either of the other two.

OK. The final four. I was in shock that Chris Daughtry was voted off. He didn't deserve that--tonight. I thought Tuesday's performances were kinda boring, but not the worst. Since he was voted off, I guess there's not a lot to say---Rockers seem to get a raw deal on the show. -- Daughtry was both true to himself and struck me as one-dimensional (mostly) as an artist. He had some good nights. Most of them. But, if a viewer wasn't into the whole "Rocker Thing" they weren't voting for Daughtry. That was both his strength and his weakness. Katherine McPhee. Sorry, Simon was correct. Her first song did come off like a spastic, shrieky Grease-revival performance, complete with Elvis impersonations. She isn't Taylor Hicks and should not have tried to act like it. And, who didn't want to be able to sweep her hair AWAY from her face? McPhee's second song? She forgot the lyrics, and tried to cover it by singing to the back of the stage. Terrible! The snafu was obvious. At this point in the competition? Unexcuseable. That's not the same as being forced to sing lyrics from a famous man. I don't see this as "underdog" I see it as "underwhelmed." I didn't vote for her. McPhee should have been voted off based on Tuesday's performance. I think she believed that, too, based on her surprised look when Daughtry was announced as the one going home. I think she should be thanking her lucky stars! She really needs to step it up next week. Kat the WORDS *are* important, too. I have definitely lost a lot of the McPheever. She will have to do A LOT to impress me Tuesday night. (But, hey, she got to pat Kermit-The-Frog on the head!) Elliott Yamin is no "looker." The Tracy Gold aka "The Radio Chick" (DJ) referred to Yamin as "Ugly as a Lemon Shark, but a Lemon Shark that can sing." I agree with the DJ. If you don't LOOK at Yamin, he CAN sing. He does not LOOK like "An American Idol." Then again, that's part of his charm, too. I mean, C'mon, do we want our next AI to look like Priscilla Presley, the prettiest mannikin around? I know I don't. Taylor Hicks---Jailhouse Rock was a risk. It's one of Elvis Presley's signature songs. Since Taylor has established himself as a goofball, he could get away with the gyrations and signature spazzing without seeming fake or forced. It was not my favorite song from Hicks, but I still felt he topped McPhee. "In the Ghetto" (Elvis, 1969) is not a song that I like. I can't help hearing Eric Cartman from South Park singing it. However, in truth, I would have found that song more disturbing sang by anyone but Hicks. As far as Hicks singing "Jailhouse Rock" again tonight? I thought that was weird. But, then again, Jeri Ryan asked Reeaaall nice-like. (Maybe they didn't want Seacrest to talk more than he had to??) --Like Elliott, Taylor Hicks does not have the American-pieish good looks. Also like Elliott, that's part of what makes Taylor Hicks endearing. Most Americans ARE average looking. I admire that Hicks never "washed the gray out" either. I don't think that Taylor Hicks has had the best voice overall throughout the performance. But, I was not surprised that he wasn't in the bottom two this week. He did OK first song, and as well as someone can sing "In the Ghetto" (I am not a fan of the lyrics) I am stumped at this point..I had predicted McPhee going home. Now?? imho anybody's guess...I don't have a clear prediction for a winner at this time.

I started watching AI for the first time this year for a really miserable reason: trainwrecks. The trainwreck scene in "The Fugitive" led me to buy a really big TV. After the deliberate exploitation of various human trainwrecks during the audition weeks I found myself watching the show because of the talent in the final 12. They all had something going for them and I felt bad with every young hopeful who got their walking papers. Then came tonight and the massive trainwreck caused by the reaction of Chris fans on various boards. Somebody actually said it was the worst disaster since 9-11. This means they thought it was worse than the Indonesian tsunami and hurricane Katrina. I felt bad to see Chris go, but I felt worse to see the violent reactions of his supporters. The fans of Katherine McPhee got sore fingers from texting. They are organized in an almost military fashion to make sure she gets as many votes as possible. Jewish rabbis are sending out the message to support Elliot and Taylor has a massive and dedicated fan base. It comes down to numbers. For those Daughtry fans who threaten legal action, petitions, boycotts, etc. I can only hope they put their vigor toward supporting his career once the circus has ended. Please remember, this is an entertainment program, not death and destruction and blasted hopes.

Actually Koala, the mind control works pretty well. Not so great last night, but overall, the producers/judges can "swing" a veiwers perception a bit.Better spot to sing in... Better mood lighting for the song... Perhaps an on-stage musician (or two...) Better song choice... Better comments by the judges... Keeping the phone lines open for "at least" 2 hours... All in all -- they are pretty good with the mind control -- they have had 4 previous seasons to perfect it... I do not think Elliot will win. And please -- nobody take this the wrong way -- but I cannot see his picture on a 70 foot billboard in Times Square. Sorry -- just cant. Katherine? No problem... Even Taylor has a more "physical" appeal. Last night reminded me of same week in AI1 where Tamayra Grey (sp?) was booted on the night that Nikki McNuggets should have EASILY been booted. It sucks... but then, it does sell alot of Coke, doesnt it? Archon "You can get more with a 2x4 and a kind word than with just a kind word." (Marcus, B5)

LAST EDITED ON 05-11-06 AT 08:47 AM (EST)Even though I kinda knew it was coming last night, my jaw hit the floor. Chris was one of my 4 faves and started at the very very top. I'm sorry to see him go, but I really think it's MUCH better for him to be out now than winning or runner up. Chris would have been forced to put out a record of AI & Cowell's choosing rather than more what he wants to do & he would've been frustrated -- (One needs only look at Kelly Clarkson to see what could have happened with Chris -- while Kelly needed to win AI to start her career & her first album with AI was successful, Kelly is MUCH HAPPIER since she has been cut loose and found even more success with her second album and having much more control over it.) We haven't seen the last of Chris & I take solace in knowing this is really better for Chris (which is why I hadn't been voting for him the last 3 weeks, though I really like him). The look on Simon's face was P.R.I.C.E.L.E.S.S. Simon really thought he was going to run Chris's career and that was snatched from him. I really like Simon, but I don't think his management would have been good for Chris. I felt bad for Chris looking at his dumbfounded expression -- he truly looked heartbroken -- but I'm sure he had some calls last night & realizes he is better off. My theories why Chris didn't win? Number 1 -- While many of us on these boards love Chris's sound, it really is a smaller overall market in the U.S. Many people are not fans of Chris's genre. All 4 are really talented (even though I am not an Elliott fan) and they all deserve to win & all 4 appeal to different markets. Number 2 -- Chris really has played it safe and has been coasting the entire show. Elliott came from behind and has been improving each week & has been pimped by the judges BIG time for a few weeks now . . . Simon's comment Tue night, IMO, was a lecture to the voters: "Elliott, you DESERVE to be in the semifinals." While that doesn't make me vote for Elliott many people will be persuaded by that. Kat has been overly criticized by the judges and getting sympathy votes (she is seriously talented, though) and she's the only girl left -- that helped keep her in. Number 3 -- Chris has been expected to win since the beginning and people felt he was "safe" (I sure did). Thus less votes while people spent more time on who they thought "needed" their votes. Number 4 -- I think many people (like me) thought Chris would do better by NOT winning and let up on their voting. (See above.) Edited to remove siggie

Kat has been overly criticized by the judges and getting sympathy votes (she is seriously talented, though) and she's the only girl left -- that helped keep her in.IMO I think this is the major reason Chris lost. I think the unfair criticism of Katherine on her first song prompted people who don't normally vote to vote for her. I taped it and when I heard the criticism of Kat I picked up the phone to vote for her but I was too late, the voting had closed. I'd like to add that I'm NOT a huge fan of hers even though I think she is very talented. I just reacted to what the judges said and I was ready to vote for her as many times as I could. I think a lot of people did that.
