Taylor starts the song in the audience, works his way to the stage. The video is strange, looks recorded, not live. Is it must my TIVO?Judges' comments: Randy, wow, in his element, way to start the show. Paula, look fantastic, original as ever, phenominal. Simon, four people left in competition, in the real world that was a terrible impersonation of Elvis, dancing was hideous, was karaoke with a capital 'K'. 1-866-IDOLS-01 or 1-866-IDOLS-05

If nothing else, Elliott earns 'fashion diva' points tonight. I'm liking his voice more each week. Nice key change transitiion.Judges' comments: Randy, not sure about the song, but he laid it out, it was hot, made it his own. Paula, it was Elvis' big closer in his concerts, Elliott's best performance this season. Simon, came into performance as underdog, sang a song not many people at home would know, so far, the best performance so far. 1-866-IDOLS-03 or 1-866-IDOLS-07.

Best performance of the night...through the first three. I love Taylor, I liked it, but doing that in the Final 4 just isn't as impressive. It's what he should do since that equalizes him in the vocals. Chris, well, the alien glasses distracted me, I wish he'd stop using the microphone stand as a baton, it's distracting, the vocal wasn't amazing either.

Simon, I'll tell you what it looked like, a desperate, manic audition, was shreeky, wasn't a great performance overall, hopes she has a better second song. 1-866-IDOlS-04 or 1-866-IDOLS-08

I was a big fan. Considering this week is pretty much the ultimate screwjob theme for any female, especially in a field of three males, she did something completely out of the ordinary (combining two songs) and I think she did well. Compared to the snooze pill that was Chris and Elliott (although both were solid vocally, I could have skipped from Taylor to Kat and not missed anything), this was at least exciting.Speaking of which, when is a female guest going to come on the show? I know the guys had a talent advantage this year, but the themes? Stevie Wonder, Barry Manilow (just his covers), Elvis, Queen? Egads.

>I agree with you.. I am >not an Elvis fan to >devote an ENTIRE SHOW TO >HIM.. is CRAZY > >how come the women artists get >no love??? Because the producers have an agenda. They want a male winner, and people like Randy have been pimping this idea for months. Why bother to have a competition, if they are going to rig the results from the beginning? It's a shame, really, because Kat is the best technical singer of anyone in the competition. It would be so nice if they simply made the competition fair. And when they did pimp a woman, they pimped a no-talent bum like That Pickle. What a waste. *spits at producers AGAIN* --Singer

I agree with 1. Taylor, 2, Kat, 3. Chris, 4. Elliot, but it was a close call. Taylor once again exploited the two song format to display real diversity, appealing to a wide spectrum of listeners/watchers. Kat had uneven performances, but she had some lovely moments, made even more apparent by her setting in the midst of several diverse men as the only woman. Tommy's comment on the sparkle in her eyes is accurate. Chris appealed more to me when I closed my eyes so I could concentrate on his voice. Elliot is becoming a real performer, but evidently he sounds somewhat better in person than he does in broadcast from the reactions of the judges. I'll be a little sad to see any of them go.

>I agree with 1. Taylor, 2, >Kat, 3. Chris, 4. Elliot, >but it was a close >call. Katherine was the only one of the four to forget lyrics. (Song # 2) At this point in the competition? Completely unexcusable. She tried covering this by pausing, and then turning around while singing (added choreography). She screwed up. The other three, at the very least, remembered all their WORDS. imho Kat dropped to #4. Kat had uneven >performances, but she had some >lovely moments, made even more >apparent by her setting in >the midst of several diverse >men as the only woman. She had some nice moments attempting to be an Elvis impersonator. No doubt. She has a nice voice. I don't particularly care that Katherine is the "Last Woman Standing." It's a singing contest. Besides, imho, Anyone who feels intimidated by other contestants based on gender also doesn't deserve to be an "American Idol." >

Song suits his voice well.Judges' comments: Randy, real constructive criticism, right key for his voice, right song finally, when and if he makes a record, the kind he should make, he was hot. Paula, shows a different side to him, this shows how well-rounded an artist he is. Simon, world apart from his first performance from this, absolutely the perfect song for him, just sung his way to semi-finals. 1-866-IDOLS-01 or 1-866-IDOLS-05.

I personally liked this song quite a bit. At first, I was unsure of his "tone" (I am not sure of the real term, but his lower voice), but when he pulled it all together toward the end, I was feeling it. I liked the way he made it kind of "soft", and also a little sassy.

It wasn't right, and if I'm being honest, I haven't liked his performances since "What a Wonderful World". I wouldn't mind seeing, as he has been called, the penis with ears leave ASAP. Or even better, he can win this thing and be forced by TPTB into sucking horribly.

Agree totally. She should not have belted in the middle. It ruined the lyricism of the piece and made her notes go flat. She should have used her head voice. Pity, because I imagined that she could have done a Whitney-esque interpretation of this ballad. It would have been quite beautiful. She seemed too ungrounded and too nervous to make this happen. Again, pity. --Singer

Little reedy voice at the beginning, key too low? Tough week for a female voice, and she's out there all by her lonesome. Judges' comments: Randy, better than first song, ran out of air at the end, pitch problems. Paula, enjoyed watching her dance and letting loose during first song. Simon, not one of her best night, started out nice, middle part was over the top, too much, came in at disadvantage, didn't choose right songs, that arrangement was too much. 1-866-IDOLS-04 or 1-866-IDOLS-08

Of course she did. Girls in general had a disadvantage past Week 4. They likely had easier competition to get into the Final 12, but once the 12 came, many of the themes were murderous for females, whether they be male artists or male-biased themes. For instance, look at love songs week. The females chose, whether on hubris or necessity, a song by Whitney and a song by Babs, neither of which they could live up to and no singer likely could.

I can't believe they did that. I mean, that's like having a Barbra Streisand night and making guys sing the songs. Why don't they do that? (I know, I know, they want Chris to win.)Was anyone else distracted by the extremely loud electric guitar in this last song? I was hoping she would come out and do this with just a piano... make it more tender. Kind of like Kelly C has done "Beautiful Disaster." She's still my favorite. Even Tommy Mottola seemed to really think there is something special about Kat.

OK, they're done. Overall, a very very enjoyable and impressive evening by the top 4.My immediate rankings: 1 - Taylor. His night for two weeks in a row. No question. "In The Ghetto" was brilliant. 2 - Elliot. "Trouble" put him over Chris. Very close though. He's shown incredible growth the past month. 3 - Chris. First song excellent. 2nd song 'eh'. 4 - Kat. Not her night by a long shot. Simon was right - wrong song choices. geekboy

Based on tonight's performances:1. Elliott Yamin. It's easier to listen to him than to look at him. But, the best vocally in both songs tonight. Song # 1 and # 2. 2. Taylor Hicks. Song # 1 - OK, but if he only sang this song tonight, he might have been in trouble. Taylor has showmanship, and that carries him. Song # 2 Brilliant. He didn't try to BE Elvis. But, was true to the vocals of the song. 3. Chris Daughtry. Song # 1 and # 2. Yes, he can sing. But, -- ? He just didn't hold my attention tonight. I thought he was boring. (I was surprised by this.) 4. Katherine McPhee. Song # 1 - Meh. Song # 2 -Obviously forgot some of the lyrics? (even my minor child noticed, and was embarrassed for her) Unexcuseable when in the Final 4. Should Go? Katherine McPhee. Will Go? -- I believe it will be Katherine McPhee. I will say this: I love Country music, and I thought Katherine McPhee was more talented than Carrie Underwood. Maybe she was on the wrong season?
