For all the ruffled, discomfited Jen fans (myself included, let's look at this realistically and objectively.1. Jen has teetered on the brink of elimination more than once already, heck she was a wildcard!
2. It's all about publicity. Even people who don't give a hoot or watch AI now know about the controversy swirling around the show, and the central figure (and benefactor) from it all is none other than Miss Hudson.
3. Jen placed 7th. Would anyone have raised a stink if she went out say 4th, behind Toya, Fannie, and Huff? No, nobody would. Going out in a blaze of glory and storm of controversy at 7th is a faaaar cry better than sneaking out predictably at 4th.
4. As mentioned in other posts, who needs the AI recording contract when you're Jennifer Hudson? and EVERYONE already knows that you can sing the ##### off of the Grand Canyon...
5. Which now brings us to my main point. Jennifer Hudson (God bless her) is the PERFECT VICTIM. Of the 3 (dare I say) divas, Jen is by far the one that we have the most sympathy for. Although strong and a survivor (by her own declaration), anyone can not but help see that she is all the while wonderfully vulnerable. She, more than anyone else, improved the most during the contest. She, more than anyone else, fought more obstacles to get to where she was, being a wildcard and on the brink at many times. She's slightly overweight, and admitted (with refreshing honesty) to the world that this is something she has had to battle, and continues to battle. There are many things to pick apart about her. Many have commented on her funny facial expressions, her overly choir like singing, or have just plain said that they can't stand to watch or look at her. Now that's mean, and don't we think comments like this somehow get back to her? I'm sure she's long figured out what counts as acceptable and not acceptable as far looks, behaviour, and singing go.
6. If it were Fannie that went out, how many of us would have said (or at least thought)- "She was too cocky anyway." And if it were Toya, she's beautiful, gifted, and tremendously positive as it is. Somehow we know that both her and Fannie would get by, with or without AI. But not Jen, there is something about her that really makes us root for her.
In summary, let us take heart and agree that this week's AI fiasco only serves to further highlight what an incredible, truly talented lady Jennifer Hudson is, something many, many of us should have realized at the very beginning.
