Basically gathering all the theories and adding I hadn't seen before: a power outage that might have knocked out a good portion of her voting block.

I have a problem with racially motivated part though. Of the reamaining contestants, Jon is the only white contestant left. If it were racially motivated none of the white contestants would have been kicked off yet.
As far as the blackout, I believe Randy said that it wouldn't have mattered but if the votes were as close as any race to date then I can't imagine that 15,000 votes would not have made a difference.
All said, Jennifer is better off being kicked out already. She can now pursue a real career outside of AI and won't be locked into any sort of contract that the winner is STUCK signing.

Oh is she? I thought she was Latin. Ok, so there are two left.
Why didn't I know that she was white?

Guess you missed the memo

In my experience, DiGarmo is an Italian name. But of course, my last name is German & I am only about 1/8 German.

One observation -- since the majority of contestants were people of color, the odds were that a person of color would be voted off. (Talent, weather, age, regionalism all taken off the table)
And now that we are in the home stretch, so to speak, everyone voted off in the next few weeks will evoke furor and conspiracy theories. That's the beauty of the show and our society at large. If what I believe or like or endorse isn't accepted by the population, it's the population that's wrong/crooked/stupid, not me. (We're having a jaded day here...)

I too have a German last name but I am like 50% German. I just never thought of race as an issue in this competition and am surprised everytime it is mentioned.

That explains why Jennifer was hurt--but Fantasia would have then been the boot. Which would have been just as shocking.

Agree with the quote in there, that the three "d"'s split their voting demographic. That's why they were in the bottom three.

This makes total sense to me. Why does everything have to be blamed on racism or a conspiracy? I'm so sick of this kind of reasoning, especially when we are talking about an inconsequential talent show. If people want to get all worked up about racism and conspiracies, there are plenty of real incidents of both out there in the real world that actually have an effect on society. Let's get out there and get excited and outraged about those.

I agree with you.
I don't think Jennifer deserved to go Wed. but remember she has been in the Bottom 3 before. Yes she gave a good performance but we all know from the past that sometimes praise does not get you votes.
I wonder if Jennifer had been standing up there with any of the other 4 and not Fantasia and Latoya if this would have taken place.
I think people are moe outraged cause you had the other 2 so called divas up there.
Its funny now but if you look at all the polls prior to last weeks vote, Jennifer never ranked higher then 5th place on the show.
Now its all of a sudden people are acting like she would have won because now they won't have the 3Diva competition. I think they did that show last year on VH1.
Then to play the racism card, where does that leave George Huff?? Last I checked, I think he was black.
I guess nobody would have cared had he been voted off.

NO, Not at all Jennifer has taken a trip or two to the bottom three before, so people would have been shocked but not to this degree. The big deal is over the three of them being the lowest votes. Jen is reaping the benefits of the anger over the collective results. To really put it out there, Jennifer wouldn't have won anyway. I doubt if she would have gone after George. Don't get me wrong she can sing but she didn't have the same following as LaToya, Fantasia and George to make it to the final two. I hope Latoya and Fantasia will pick up her fan base just in case John Stevens really did get the JPL votes

The main complaint in the news that I have seen has been that Jennifer is gone, not that the other ladies were next to her.It really doesn't matter that she had been in the bottom 3 before so has Latoya hasn't she (if I remember correctly). Her last 3 performances were amazing, and that's what counts not what happened before that, Jennifer unlike anyone else left, has actually improved, where the people who have been told that they don't need the contest, have gotten worse. I would bet that Jennifer will be the one to benefit the most out of this season.

Jennifer was simply the person who everyone has tagged on to. The complaints would have been the same with any of them leaving ONLY because all three were in three bottom. However, if Jennifer had left and the other two had not been in the bottom three it would not be a CNN story. The amazement was with the top three in the bottom three. When I said she would probably go before George I meant that because George has a stronger support group. Although she had improved greatly over the last few weeks , i do not believe she would have made it to the final two.

She will definitely benefit from this and I think Brv n Krv said it on another thread that she is now free to pursue a career without contract attached to American Idol. They own the AI winner but now she can make her own choices.

Well that's not a fact, and neither is my opinion on it. I disagree with you, I feel that it wouldn't have mattered who she was standing next to, and neither one of us can prove our opinions on it. So I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

For the record, I'm a "white woman". I live in the Chicago area, so I was rooting for Jennifer. (Plus I would have voted for her regardless. I feel she's very talented.)

If it weren't for pesky tornados flying through Illinois on Tuesday, and if I weren't concerned about getting to the basement, I *might* have actually put out some votes that night.

Last week, I voted many times for Jennifer. This week, I didn't vote due to the storms.

Hope everything was ok for you with the tornado.
I must say I think a "tornado" is a little more to worry about then "American Idol". I am sure Jennifer will be just fine and who knows her career may exceed both Fantasia' and Latoya. Look at Clay Aiken.
Good luck, hope no more storms come your way..

I know there were wicked storms that knocked out power to a PORTION of the Chicago area last Tuesday night. However, I also live there, and my power was just fine, thank you very much. I had no problem voting. (Yes, I vote. And yes, I vote for the best singer -- not the underdog of the week.)

I cannot be the only person who fits the above description. If all of us with functioning power had cast our votes for Jennifer, perhaps it would have made a difference. But perhaps not. $%!! happens in life. And perhaps this week, it was just Jennifer's turn to get caught in the #$!!.

I agree with others who say her career will probably get a bigger boost because of this than had she won the AI3 title.

I think what everyone is fogetting is tha had John Stevens been booted out of competition before jennifer, this would not have been as big of an upset.
I think the fact that he was left standing and left stadning in the Top 3 made this play right into CNN's and everyone's elses hands.

I think that when something this shocking happens, people look for reasons to help them understand. I don't think race had anything to do with it. The reason that I latched onto to help me deal with it was the storms in and around Chicago.

I'm going to consentrate my efforts in voting for LaToya since I think she is the best contestant.

I also like Fantasia and George. Some people don't like Fantasia but I was moved by her reaction and support of Jennifer in that moment that left us all in a state of shock.

Fantasia really was impressive in that situation. She even laughed when it was determined that the power singers where actually the bottom and not top. She didn't make faces or gestures or any of the sassy stuff for which she has been criticized. Good for her, maybe she's learning something.

Hee! Forums are tomorrow's news.

Here's a conspiracy theory for the melting pot, with that in mind: Maybe there was a vote mix-up and someone marked the top 3 with the bottom 3's vote tallies. Computer error or something.

21. "American Idol is rigged!!"
Well I truly believe after I saw AI last night that the competition is rigged. I cannot believe that so many people actually picked up a phone and voted for "redhead". His performance was so bland compared with all the other amazing performances. Sorry it just cant get him that many votes to be in the top 4 ahead of singers like Fantasia, La Toya and Jennifer. I believe Jennifer may have gone in the next couple of weeks but nothing would have me believe that "redhead" would outlast any of the others. I mean even if theyre not voting on a voice he isnt even cute or has a "personality". Rigged!!!!!!! Has to be for sure. Shame on Idol. I am sick of it and ready to find a new reality show to watch.
