"King of Vegas: final five."
Just a little note for all of the former Celebrity Blackjack fans: Hollywood 'Dealer' Dave is still in the hunt for the brak brak brak dollars. He just survived his first elimination deathmatch, much to the disappointment of pretty much everyone but me (and probably him, but that's no guarantee), and it's down to the classic Probst one-in-five chance for the million.

This is sort of fun.

Ya, I'm watching too. I'm not really sure if the show is valid about picking the best gambler, as the durations are too short so luck is a huge factor. Still, edited down to TV this is how it has to be.

How could you be cheering for Hollywood Dave?

Sig by me. Wish the rider was me!

It really is about the longest winning streak for most of the games -- especially baccarat and Red Dog, not to mention that old feature nightmare, roulette -- but strategy comes into play here and there. It's just very short-term.

I cheer for Hollywood Dave 'cause I like him. I met him through Celebrity Blackjack, where he dealt the cards for both seasons. There, he was helpful, did his best to coach the celebrities through basic blackjack strategy, and still had that 'I'm trash-talking here, but it's just to keep the viewers focusd' edge. I'd cheerfully sit at a table with him if I played blackjack. I'd just ask his advice a lot. (One thing about Dave: he dispenses advice freely. Ask him the exact bet you'll need to beat him, and he'll tell you. After the fact.) He means no harm -- and besides, someone has to be the villain.

the show certainly was well cast. I think that they would have wanted to have that Chainsaw guy around longer. The old guy is lasting, the babe is lasting, a couple of pros still around, and the Michigan Porn Star. I guess he represents all us schmucks.

In the end, using poker as the decider each week has to favour the pro poker players. I think David Williams will be tough to beat in a death match, unless someone really gets on a roll.

I have never heard of Celebrity Blackjack. I guess that didn't make it across the border.

LAST EDITED ON 03-10-06 AT 00:03 AM (EST)

It was on GSN. Currently isn't aired right now.

Although they're occasionally showing at around 2:00am (on Friday into Saturday?) the second season of the World Series of Blackjack. In the first season he was the runner-up. That helped get him the Celebrity Blackjack gig. In the second season, he won a wildcard slot in the first round and was eliminated in one of the wildcard games in which the winner was to advance to the semi-final round.

5. "Down to final three!"
They are down to the final three. They aired a marathon of the episodes earlier today, the last one was the final four episode.

Sorry Estee, Hollywood Dave was eliminated in 4th place.

The final three are:

David Williams, Poker Pro
Alan Borman, "Michigan State Porn Star"
Jerry Goldberg, the old codger that still has it.

The final three episode will air on Tuesday at 10:00pm. Opposite of the second half of TAR9's 3rd leg(superleg). I might try taping it on another machine since I already have one reserved for the Race. (That is, if I remember....)

6. "RE: Down to final three!"
Yes, "Hollywood" Dave is out. And wasn't he a good sport when he lost?! Must have been taking sportsmanship lessons from doorman Judd Sergeant or Phil Helmuth Jr!!

The final 3 are an interesting bunch. The old veteran has some wile. The Michigan State Porn Star has (obviously) been doing well. But it will be hard to bet against David Williams, the poker professional, in a show that will likely end with a Texas Hold'em Death Match.

This show has been better than I expected. The loud mouths are annoying, but add colour. Will Spike do a repeat of this show? I guess that depends on the ratings, and I have no idea how those have gone. There is a lot of competition on TV with poker shows.

7. "The King has been crowned!!!!"
LAST EDITED ON 03-23-06 AT 11:10 PM (EST)

After watching this Wednesday morning, WE HAVE A WINNER:

Alan Borman, the "Michigan State Porn Star"!!!!!!!

Final Standings:

1. Alan Borman
2. Jerry Goldberg
3. David Williams

How it went down: The four games of the night were: Blackjack, Mini-Baccarat, Roulette, and the $1,000,000 Texas Hold-em Death Match

The top two finishers in the total chip count after Roulette went to the Death Match.

After the first event David had a lead, but blew it and eventually busted out in Mini-Baccarat. In Roulette he got to bet last and bet on Red after both Alan and Jerry bet on Black. The number was a black number (I forgot which number it was exactly, and I already taped over it...)

In the Hold-em Death Match, Jerry had Alan on the ropes for a while but then Alan got lucky and took the chip lead back. On the next televised hand Alan got pocket Aces to Jerry's Ace-5 (I think) and both went all-in. The Aces held up giving Alan the crown.

A gift from Cygnus!

8. "RE: The King has been crowned!!!!"
I watched the final last night. It was very different in that this time only the top two in accumulated earnings got to the death match to decide the winner. So basically they should have been playing the other 3 games (black-jack, bacarat, and roulette) not to win, but rather not to lose. I didn't understand all the "all-in" calls, as it took too big of a risk, and ended up costing David a chance at the poker.

btw, the last spin of roulette came up black, not red, thus taking David to 0.

In the poker, Jerry showed that isn't his game with his "if you go all in, I will call" on the last hand (yes, Jerry had A-5, to Alan's A-A). Alan had him trapped and ultimately won.

I was disappointed that they didn't lay out the money on the table like is the norm in poker tournaments. That glass briefcase was understated, even though it held $1M. And where was the cheesy crown for the king?? I figured there would be a crown and a cape of some sort. Maybe an Elvis cape??

I actually enjoyed the show, but can't see it having a season 2.
