"Crowd needs to step it up"
I know what's wrong with American Idol. It has to do with the live audience that watches the show. Here's what I'm proposing: Have the audience be a judge. In other words, encourage the studio audience to be more picky about their reaction to each contestant. I cringe everytime that any contestant comes out and the audience immediately shoots to their feet and starts clapping and "wooing" each one of them as if they were freakin Elvis Presley or something. I'm not saying that anytime a singer gets up there and does an average job that the crowd has to immediately boo them. But I do feel as if they shouldn't clap wildly and go ape everytime a person with marginal talent gets on the stage. Also, no signs allowed and no family members/friends of the contestants allowed either.

At this level of the competition all of the singers are good and deserve to be applauded. They are 5 out of several hundred thousand who tried out. I went back and listened to all the songs from Tuesday night on tape and they sounded a lot better than I remembered. Scott and Constantine who I thought were the weakest really were not bad. Maybe I was influenced somewhat by the judges critiques. There is not that much difference in the singing abilities of each contestant and song choice can make a difference between ones thinking that a particular singer is the best or the worst of the bunch.

In case no one noticed, while Connie was giving his little show on Tuesday, almost no one in the audience was standing or clapping. I think his overblown, narcissistic performance turned everyone there (except weepy Paula) off.

Abso-positively, bacon. But you know they screen the audience at the door to get a balance of fan signs, don't you? I'm absolutely positive about that, so no need to question it.

And as for the audience standing, clapping, and swaying - well, the general public does need more exercise. AI is just doing its public service encouraging that.

Everyone is entitled to my opinion.
