That is pistol registration, can't find stats on rifle/shotgun permits which are a lot cheaper and usually easier to get. I don't know many people that shoot birds (clay or otherwise) with pistols. I'm sure some do. I mean I thought usually you shoot clay ones with a long gun and actual birds with a shot gun, but maybe I'm misled.
Just for the most part from what I understand of the stereotypes (which we all know can get you in trouble) of the Burroughs is that Staten Island is kind of the Alabama of NYC so more likely than if she was let's say from the Upper East Side to be from one of the families that might do things like hunting and shooting.
I just thought it odd that the assumption is she can't have nor can possibly know anyone that owns a gun as they are illegal (rather than just annoying and expensive), I'd think her crimes against the English language would be more worthy of a police visit.
