It seems that I am the only Loser who has discovered Perdido’s annual April outbreak of cottontailed cotillions and revelries. But, as the International Renaissance Rabbit Season events multiply - no derogatory species-specific inference intended - in anticipation of Sunday’s Egg Extravaganza and Hare Fairy Finale, I suspect that several more of us may stumble - no derogatory sub-species-specific inference intended - across the festivities. So, I’ve put together a short list:

1. Humans are welcome in all of the celebration’s venues. However, you must appear in locally-available - and outrageously priced - Aunt Clara PJs. As you’ll see, I purchased three suits - Size Chocolate Chubby Plus. But, if you’re over thirty - substantial or svelte - I don’t recommend the styles that force hopping. I really, really don’t. No muscle in my hind legs will ever forget that furry white number with the mix-n-match ears and tails. Or forgive me.

2. Protocol dictates that renaissance dress is reserved for all of the other creatures. Exclusively. Do not go there. Besides, corset stays hurt. Excruciatingly.

3. Although an observation follows, as far as I know that’s about it for rules. I’ve learned the hard way, however, that rabbits hold both their liquor and their grudges long and well. And they don’t name every-other-one of their offspring Thumper without reason. Too, most of the good times are happening after after-hours at Nutz - where the bouncers - I think that they're bouncers - aren’t bunnies but may well be named Thumper. So play nice.

Note 1: If you’re both sober enough to manage the hand-off, I’m told that you can pick up a free schedule of the weekend's gatherings from the also-world-renowned nature enthusiast, wildlife expert, lodge gardener and honorary IRRS Big Buck – Sphinx Mandrill – at the bar. But I just grab a stool and wait for the parade to come to me.

Note 2: I've heard that Sphinx is organizing one of his critically acclaimed Wild Wild Warrens tours during the holiday. I have no idea where you may sign up. And unless there are points or tokens or damning faint praise involved, I don't plan to find out. The Nature Walks were bad enough. Can you imagine following that down a rabbit hole!

4. Even out here, “The Cause” has arrived. And this Season, the IRRS has elected to address a regrettable and ancient slander - that rabbits are, by nature, much too proactively procreative - by designing and producing two leaflets that profess to "tastefully and accurately" depict The Caring Hare Experience.

In return for distributing several bundles of the leaflets from the softly purring deck of my Hot Little Red Scooter, I received back-road billboard recognition, a very uplifting ceremonial moment and Season-long free drinks (See Gallery Below).

So, if you too are by nature habitually vain and compulsively thirsty, you might ask if there are any more of those beacons of Light, Progress and Pithy PR awaiting delivery to a hut near you.
