OK, so now we have further proof that EPBvM doesn't follow his own rules.
Ray and Yolanda finish last in Tokyo -- and as it's our friend the NEL the have to surrender 'all your money and everything except the clothes on your back and your passports'.
So what do we see as soon as they touch-down in Anchorage?
HUGE snow jackets.

What gives?

I wondered the same thing. Perhaps someone gave them stuff that we didn't see.

I know that BJ and Tyler received a lot of money from begging - I thought at one point they indicated it was more than the other teams had actually received at the beginning of the leg.

They may have been able to purchase stuff while waiting for a flight, etc.

I think the bought them en route to Alaska. I remember in other seasons teams had to do that. They just don't show it on TV.

Maybe so, but then it was quite an Amazing coincidence that all the teams (and Phil) had the same style of jacket...

In TAR 5 they had a task they didn't show where they had to collect their winter clothes from a few different stores.

I'm quite sure, though I have no proof other than logic, that the producers don't have anyone pack cold weather gear for the race. I believe that when they arrive in this type of climate that every racer is provided with all the gear they'll need to stay warm enough and competitive. I just don't see them all lugging that type of extra stuff around the world.

I think every time they've gone to a cold weather location the teams have been given cold weather equipment. That stuff's far too bulky to put into one of those backpacks and far too awkward to wear on planes and most other places where it's relatively warm.

I've disagreed with the producers many times on many things, but on this (if, indeed, that is what they have been doing) I agree.

I'm realitybites and I approved this post.

LAST EDITED ON 05-19-06 AT 01:22 PM (EST)

Having packed cold weather gear to take on an airplane I'm also in the camp that if they are going to a place where they need heavy coats and gloves and stuff those are provided by the show to everyone. I think of it along the lines of making sure people have the safety equipment needed for all tasks. They don't have to haul a bicycle helmet around the world, etc.

Being medivaced off the course and showing up at the final leg missing the body parts that had to be cut off from frostbite would not be good for ratings or how much the show pays to the insurance company.

ETA: e that escaped.
