"The Amazing Race 9 Episode 11 Official Summary – Monkeys and Bugs"
Previously on The Amazing Race, Ray and Yolanda came in first and in a close 2nd to 4th finish, BJ and Tyler came in last but were non-eliminated. Want more details? Read this.

Ah, so the final four embark on another leg of the race. The instructions were to quickly leave Australia to head to Bangkok, Thailand and then take a bus to Three Spire Pagoda, a monkey Buddhist temple.

Ok, so we remember that BJ and Tyler, the hippies, came in last and had to give up all their possessions in the last non-elimination round, right? Well, we also should remember that BJ had no shoes or pants on. Well, Yolanda, being a sweetheart, gave him one pair of purple sweatpants. Eric and Jeremy (aka the Frat Boys – hey they earned that name; one of them is wearing a tuxedo T-shirt), who have always been rivals with the hippy team, also showed a good side and gave up a pair of flip-flops. Joseph and Monica (aka Mojo) did nothing – which isn’t the first time either. Oh, and while they were laughing at the hippies, they decided to start making fun of Asian people with a really bad accent. I think I know who I want to be in the Final Three.

The hippies were last but managed to get some stuff from the lost and found and noticed the gifts of the other teams. The hippies were relieved to get shoes because now they know that they will be allowed to board the airplane. They had to note that Mojo are not giving people and they are getting too cocky for their own good.

Ok, so now we get into the wheeling and dealing in the airport. Ray and Yolanda book flights via Sydney to Bangkok and they will arrive at 11:00 pm.

The hippies arrive at the airport and change into the gift clothing. Yolanda’s pants are a little too girly and small for BJ, but beggars can’t be choosers. BJ thanks Ray and Yolanda. Monica lectures the Frat Boys about how the hippies wouldn’t be allowed to enter the airport with bare feet. Mojo and the Frat Boys also join the same flight as Ray and Yolanda.

The hippies go downtown to start some begging. One girl insists that they take their shirts off. The second they did, the girl told them to put the shirts back on. Wow, they were shot down fast, but at least they got some money. So it is off to the airport for the hippies to book a flight for themselves. It is to Bangkok via Perth arriving at 10:45 pm, so 15 minutes earlier than everyone else. That was thanks to a cancellation on that flight. That totally called for a high five with the person behind the counter.

So after the flashy geographic graphic (heh heh), Phil explained, again, that the teams have to take a bus and go to the monkey temple. Why did he do this? Are they looking for filler? Maybe. That or else they are assuming the average viewer has the same IQ as the monkeys in the temple.

Well, the 11:00 pm flight was 45 minutes early, so that means that the hippies are behind again. It is time for finding cabs to the bus depot. Ray and Yolanda and the Frat Boys seem to find good cabbies and Mojo start arguing with each other and throwing insults about their cabbie. They have really taken that Ugly American Effect to heart.

The Frat Boys get the bus depot easily, get their tickets and board their bus. Ray and Yolanda join the Frat Boys on the same bus. The Frat Boys really hope that Mojo get lost and do not catch the same bus.

Mojo arrive at the bus depot and use their cabbie to help buy tickets. The cabbie said that the one ticket counter that is open is not for where they need to go and that they have to wait until morning before they can take their bus. Mojo listen to their cabbie and decide to not ask the person behind the counter if the cabbie is wrong. Bad move. To think Mojo has accused the hippies as being followers. What Mojo just did is the very definition of following.

Well, we turn to the hippies, who had a little delay in their flights. They assume that they are about even with the other teams. The hippies seem genuinely happy and excited to be in Thailand and even threw out a few phrases in the native tongue to the locals. That is what I like about this team. The hippies get their ticket for 5 AM, so they are forced to wait around in the bus depot but they do catch the bus.

Mojo, after going to a hotel, return to the bus depot and catch an even later bus.

In the meantime, Ray and Yolanda and the Frat Boys get off their buses and take taxis to the temple. The temple isn’t open for a while, so this has turned into an official bunching point.

The sun rises and the Frat Boys talk about how the monkeys have it good. They don’t have to work or do anything. If the Frat Boys win the million bucks, they’ll turn into monkeys. That is just what this world needs, eh ladies? The Frat Boys start conversing with the monkeys while Ray and Yolanda sit back and watch and comment on how the monkeys look like rats on steroids. The monkeys seem to like the Frat Boys because they start jumping on them.

The hippies get off their bus, quickly catch a cab, and make it to the temple before the doors open. Everyone seems surprised that the hippies have caught but Mojo is nowhere to be seen.

Well, the doors open to the temple and the teams get their clues. They have one clue (a Travelocity clue) that they are supposed to drag around until the pitstop where it will be opened there. There is also one final Fast Forward and a Roadblock. The Frat Boys got the last Fast Forward so they go straight to the Roadblock. The hippies and Ray and Yolanda decide to go off to do the Fast Forward.

The Fast Forward consists of each team member eating a big bowl of deep fried bugs, which is actually considered a delicacy in Thailand. Ray and Yolanda tried a couple of bugs each and conceded that the Fast Forward will go to the hippies so they had to go back to the Roadblock.

The Roadblock consists of creating a beautiful fruit display that the monkeys will consume afterwards.

Mojo got off their bus and made it to the temple to discover that they were last. Ray and Yolanda haven’t arrived from the Fast Forward yet, but the monkey fruit display will take time. Especially when the little guys start nipping into the display before it is done.

When Ray and Yolanda got back, the other teams started asking why they let the hippies get the Fast Forward. Well, Ray reasoned with them and said it would probably take the hippies three hours to eat that big bowl of bugs.

The cameras turned back to the hippies munching on Jiminy Cricket. They know that their pace is slowing down, their stomachs are getting full, and the taste is really starting to get to them, but they keep working on the bugs.

The action goes back to the monkeys and the inhabitants of the temple. The Frat Boys, who earlier on were getting along so well with the fuzzy creatures, are now calling them bastards when they jump on their display and steal some of the fruit. Yolanda yells at her monkeys too. The Frat Boys finish the display and deliver it the monkeys. The monkeys tear into the fruit faster than a rumor spreads around an office.

The Frat Boys get their next clue and see that they have to take a ferry and visit Buddha Garden. As the Frat Boys get in their cab, they start wondering about the hippies and how long it will take for them to eat their bugs.

Gee, that segue works so nicely that we turn to the hippies. Things are not going well. The metal bucket on the floor has been used by both of them and Tyler seems to be in worse shape than BJ. Their stomachs are getting very full. But now that we’ve been grossed out, we need to go back to Monica whining.

At least Mojo finish their fruit display and can offer it to the monkeys. The monkeys tear into this display just as fast as a speeding bullet. Shortly after (approximately five minutes), Ray and Yolanda are free to give their fruit display to the monkeys and they get their clue. The monkeys swam into that display like a plague of locusts.

We turn back to vomiting and bug eating. The hippies start debating whether or not they should’ve stuck with this task or if they should’ve done what Ray and Yolanda did. Well, they continued to discuss this but they said it has been their dream to go after the Fast Forward and to get it. BJ finishes his bowl, despite the fact that the bottom of the bowl is mainly just the legs and chunks of exoskeleton. Tyler is not finished his bowl.

Well, after being grossed out, we turn back to the Frat Boys heading to the Buddha Temple. They find their clue, only to discover it is a detour. The teams have to decide between taking a lot of clay pots from one location to another on a small wooden plank or to create a Buddhist shrine, following the details carefully.

The Frat Boys screwed up their last physical detour, so they decided to create the Buddhist shrine. Mojo and Ray and Yolanda also found their clues in the Buddha Garden and went off to do the detour. Ray and Yolanda and Mojo chose to join the Frat Boys.

After the teams have decided what they are doing, we turn to Tyler still working on his bowl of bugs. He does not look good but he is still taking one for his team. With one last triumphant bite, the hippies received their clue. They get to go straight to the pitstop, in the Marble Temple.

We turn back to the Frat Boys heading to the shrine creation shoppe. They start gold leafing the little Buddha noting that the gold leaf is fragile. Ray and Yolanda join the Frat Boys and start their shrine. Mojo stops by and sees the other teams and Joseph decides that they need to do the other task – the clay pots task. Yolanda hopes that the other tasks are so tough, that it’ll piss off Mojo to the point that they can’t do the task.

Well, we head over to Mojo working on their task. Monica complains that it is heavy and that she doesn’t know how to lift the pots that are on the wooden plank. Well, Mojo start off down the narrow streets and start dropping clay pots. Yep, it looks like Yolanda called this one.

Ok, so after getting our dose of whine, it is time for some cheese. The hippies are on the way to the pitstop. Hey, they are team number one and Phil reminds them of that clue that they were supposed to bring along. Well, if there is a golden coloured gnome inside the clue, they get a cool trip. Did the hippies win? Nope, but they are in the final three (ooooh, so that means that this is an elimination round).

And in a good sign *fingers crosses* we head back over to Mojo with Monica whining about how far it is. They managed to bring a bunch of pots but they still have more to go.

Yolanda asks the Frat Boys why they chose this task. Their response was that they gold leaf in their spare time. Lol Gold leafing is a great way to get girls. It always returns to the zippers with these two, eh? Both teams are coming along nicely. The Frat Boys think they are done but their supervisor tells them that they must flatten out the leaf that is loose on the Buddha. They quickly finish that and get their clue to head to the pitstop. (Oh, and Phil repeats himself about the pitstop.) Ray and Yolanda also have to flatten out the gold leaf.

In an attempt to create suspense, the cameras turn back to Mojo and Monica whining about finishing the task. Mojo have a few extra pots because if they break a few, they won’t have to go back. Well, as good a plan as that, Monica breaks more pots than they had extra. She starts complaining while Joseph tells her to keep moving. Yeah, complaining about how you screwed up but not carrying on isn’t going to save you any time. Well, they made it to the drop off zone and saw they didn’t have enough. Joseph starts running back while Monica is blubbering.

Well, the suspense has to be kept high, so we turn to the Frat Boys trying to get to the pitstop. They can’t find a cab. We also turn to Ray and Yolanda finishing up their little shrine and getting their clue. Mojo is on their last trip and they get their clue. The Frat Boys finally get their taxi and are on the way to the pitstop. Ray and Yolanda find a taxi. Mojo also find a taxi. Isn’t the suspense killing you?

Well, the Frat Boys are the second team and they did not have the golden gnome clue. So it is a race to the finish for Ray and Yolanda and Mojo. Ray and Yolanda appear to be in third but Yolanda is stopped and told that she must cover up her arms with one of their beautiful garments. Yolanda commented that she wants to keep the shirt.

Even with the stall of the shirt, Ray and Yolanda came in third and they had the golden gnome. They won a prize of a private cruise around Sydney harbour and visiting vineyards in Australia. They also get to stay in a private hotel over night which could help rest them up for the final leg of the race.

So that means that Mojo is last and they have been eliminated. I’m dancing a happy dance. I think we have a good final three. The bonus is that we don’t have to listen to Monica whine in the last episode of this show. We just have one last cry-fest coming from Monica.

So in the last episode, we can expect the teams doing their own things and the teams coming up with ways to make mistakes. The suspense is killer. Who will win? Tune in next week!

Nice summary, Strid. One question, though, are you sure you got which hippie was done first correct, because I thought Tyler *points down* was finished first and BJ still had some guts to go before they got the Fast Forward completed.

The guy with the darker hair (that's BJ, isn't it?) was done his bowl of bugs first.

Super summary, strid! Loved the smooth play-by-play and characterization of all four teams, and why the Final 3 who are still in this game will make a great show.

Nicely done.

Great summary! BTW, aren't the frat boys already remarkably similar to monkeys? Thanks for ripping on MoJo at every opportunity.
