LAST EDITED ON 01-28-04 AT 12:43 PM (EST)The episode begins with the girls getting new haircuts. This creates much trauma for Catie, who is "Twiggy-ized" with a short 60's-waif 'do. She cries and cries. Meanwhile, fellow young blonde Heather is upset for the reverse reason: Not much was done to her hair compared to the other contestants, and she feels that the judges must think she can't change her style.
Heather also feels ostracized within the house, and says only Yoanna treats her with compassion, sharing some food with her because Heather was only eating pickles, apparently.
Next, the girls are taught how to do a "shady eye," I believe, and sent running to share one pallette of makeup and one makeup table. One contestant points out that aptly nicknamed "Cruella DeVil" Camille dashes to the front and center of the table and hogs the mirror. Poor Shandi is burning her arm on the mirror lamps.
As they are evaluated by silver-haired Manuel, Camille disagrees with his evaluation of her, continuing a theme she has developed of not accepting any criticism. Yoanna is declared the sexiest eye, or something like that, and gets to have dinner with three fellow models and three surprise guests. She chooses Sara, April and Xiomara. Heather feels rejected (lots of Heather face time this episode, so the writing begins to appear on the wall) but is interrupted by Shandi's collapse, apparently brought on by lack of food. Mother hen Yoanna brings her something to eat, and the much hyped "tragedy" is past.
The surprise guests turn out to be the male models from episode one. Heather doesn't like to serve Yoanna, who has spurned her. Camille doesn't like Catie taking her tomato to prepare salad.
The models have to do a photo shoot suspended inside an abandoned factory. Catie is very scared. Catie cries more. Catie looks very unattractive while crying. Heather does her entire shoot with her mouth catching flies. Catie cries some more. Xiomara offers to go first. Catie finally takes a few photos. Catie and Heather bond over being teen blondes who enjoy smoking.
Judgment time, and the girls are told to apply either glamourous 50's, mod 60's (neither of which any contestants do) goth, punk or futuristic. The judges dis Xiomara, who blames the attention given Catie for distracting her. Catie responds cattily, then goes backstage and cries some more. Janice D. looks less scary than usual. The judges discuss tonights cut, and aren't happy with Catie, Xiomara, Heather, Jenascia. Xiomara thinks she's going. It's down to Xiomara and Heather. Heather loses. Xiomara cries. Xiomara knows her days are numbered. Heather knows she's prettier than most of the other models. Heather goes home to her mom.
Next week, last season's super-fabulous winner Adrianne visits the house and shows the girls how it should be done. Can't wait! Hurray for February sweeps.
