"The Butterfly Effect"
Have you ever heard of it? The principle is simply this:

Change one thing, change everything.

So what if we go back in time to March of 2002 when Rob Mariano was playing Survivor in Marquesas. Say we change one thing. Instead of losing the Episode 3 immunity challenge "Coconut Maze Race", Vecepia talks her team to victory instead.

Rotu goes to tribal council and votes out Kathy Vavrick Obrien, and Hunter Ellis remains as a vital part of Maraamu. He and Rob become allies.

Rob's relationship with Sarah Jones blossoms as Maraamu wins the next several immunity challenges and the tribe grows strong instead of weak.

Rob and Sarah proceed to dominate in Maraamu and after the merge in the newly formed Soliantu. Rob wins Survivor 4, and at the live reunion show he proposes to his backpocket girl Sarah.

A few months later, they wed. They have a son and Rob's construction career is booming. When CBS calls him for All Stars in 2004, he is unavailable and declines the offer, his family is too important to him.

Since Kathy got voted out early, she too does not make it to All Stars, no offer at all from CBS. So in her place they get Gina Crews who was 3rd in Marquesas. And instead of Rob Mariano since he is unavailable, they get 4th place Hunter Ellis.

Amber meets and falls in love with Rob Cesternino at All Stars (Since they are both on Chapera) and she becomes his backpocket girl as that is her strategy. He ends up winning the million when he stabs Amber in the back by taking Jenna Lewis to the finals. But his and Amber's love dissolves since she was using him to get the money and didn't.

So since Rob didn't appear on All Stars with his Red Sox hat on, the Sox do not win the world series (shudder at the thought).

Also, since Rob and Amber never really met and couldn't hit it off, they never join the Amazing Race, they never get recognized or helped all season long, and they don't get to the finale that you are about to see tonight.

Instead, Meredith and Gretchen make it to the final 3 to stand aside Ron and Kelly, Uchenna and Joyce as the best racers this season.

All that from one little simple change...

Let's see. If Lincoln hadn't gone to that play; if Kennedy hadn't gone to Dallas; if Cinderella hadn't lost her slipper and none of it, none of it(not a typo- emphasis!) compares to how different our lives would have been if only things had been different that fateful day in March, 2002!
KO- you are hot today! I also just realized you'd have to have another screen name!!!!

Great short story by Ray Bradbury about that very topic: "A Sound of Thunder."

All except the Rob Mariano part.

There's a few lines missing from it, such as when Eckels actually steps off the Path. But otherwise, nice job finding the link, Boner!

One other alternative universe:

Suppose "The View" did not want Elizabeth Filarski Hasselbeck, so she does not turn down Survivor all stars. Elizabeth gets chosen for the cute girl spot on all stars over Amber, so Amber and Rob M. never meet.

At all stars, Rob M. has only one single woman in his tribe, Alicia. So he brings her to the finals and proposes to her.

TAR 7 includes the engaged team of Rolicia, whose bickering and sniping puts Ron and Kelly to shame. In the meat eating challenge, Alicia calls Rob a wimp and does the roadblock herself, eating the four pounds of meat in record time. But at the end, Alicia has done so many roadblocks Rob is forced to limbo, unsuccessfully, so Rolicia starts out an hour and a half behind the other teams.

Ron and Kelly watch Rolicia's bickering and turn to each other, bond marry, have kids and live happily ever after, with Ron running for Congress in South Carolina. Rob, ever competitive, moves to Ron's district just to run against him, but Rob's interracial marriage becomes an issue and Ron wins. While in Congress, Ron passes a law which says "The FCC shall deny a broadcast license to any reality show using a contestant from another reality show."

I know what this all really means! Mark Burnett's real name is Moishe Bernstein. He's a certified Yenta (matchmaker in Yiddish) and three years ago Rob went to him begging for a match- somebody, anybody, that he could propose to on national tv, afterall, he'd already bought the ring and it only had a 27 month return policy. So time was of the essence! All kidding aside, I know that this is bashers and although I think Rob and Amber are a love match, it's fun to fantasize about "might-have-beens" and you guys are very good at it.

I like this thread.

Let's try another.

Instead of Jerri being an evil psycho-biatch in S2, she is actually reasonable. So Amber never gets labelled as her little follower and is not voted off early. Amber is forced to step up in that season and does. She gets further in the jury but not far enough to be very memorable, so she never gets casted for All-Stars. (Remember she was cast because MB thought she might have something to show that she never did in her original season.)

Instead, Heidi-ho got cast in All-Stars because she was very memorable. She uses her, um, assets (which ones?) to influence Rawb, and he falls for her instead. They go on TAR, and because of Heidi's willingness to strip for anything, they get escorts and more money for the legs of the race. That is, until they hit a country that take indecent exposure laws very seriously, when Heidi-ho will get thrown in jail. This disqualifies the team, and SeeBS is forced to bail her out of jail. ABC does an expose that makes the American Idol scandal look like nothing. Rawb, trying to sever ties to the scandal, breaks up with Heidi-ho and disappears out of the face of fame, and goes back to being a construction worker.

Three is the perfect number.
