We know they will have to each sing their version of that "I Believe" song written by Tamyra Grey. If it is like anything she sang the other night, it may not be worth watching.

'Star' was quite boring, but i do like 'Raindrops Will Fall'. It had an Alicia Keys vibe to it.

are they using that chick to write a song? I did not watch the first season so I don't know her at all.But you would think they would use a more established songwriter or team for the winner of this. It does not seam like they would want to take a chance with the first song. I guess though in thinking about it I don't even remember any of the other's songs except "Bridge Over Troubled Waters". So it will just be adding to the rest of the junk that is out there now. One more of J Slice's Awesome Creations!

She probably is locked into a contract with them and for some reason they are using her song. I geuess it could be cheaper for them instead of paying some established songwriter. Its funny because the other day I heard something on the radion about on American Idol they are singing the same songs season after season and it is actually true. I think they have a limited number of songs that they can actually sing. Some songwriters and artist won't let them sing any of them at all. Gee, wonder why, lol....

I think they have a limited number of songs that they can actually sing. Some songwriters and artist won't let them sing any of them at all. Gee, wonder why, lol.... I can actually answer this question. Licensing songs for use on TV is expensive. Back when radio was in its infancy, the FCC ruled that the promotional value of playing a song on the radio offset the use of the copyright, so over-the-air radio stations don't have to pay anything to play songs (unlike Internet broadcasters, which is another controversy...). But TV stations have always had to pay for use. The rate isn't fixed, either. Some publishers are willing to cut Idol a price break, although occasionally that's linked to an appearance by the songwriter on the show (Manilow, Sedaka, Robin Gibb ... and hopefully Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan for next year). Other publishers cut Idol a price break in return for some of their songs appearing on Idol CDs (such as this year's "Greatest Soul Classics"). Other publishers want top dollar (for example, Michael Jackson, who is almost broke, won't shave off a penny for use of any Lennon-McCartney songs or other songs that he controls -- he can be almost broke despite controlling these songs because he has his rights to them mortgaged to the hilt). Idol uses the songs that the producers decide they can afford.

It seems very surprising that with the profits Fox is making from AI that they can not afford to get the songs they singers want to sing.

I missed the show where Fantasia sang Summertime. I hope she does sing it, since it was so well received.
